But you already have a corner named after you 🤣 guess you have two now eh? In all seriousness though, huge HUGE thank you! Can't wait to hear your suggestions 😉
Wao that was a big info drop. Thermalito is partially the reason why I'm making my own track for AC so seeing it getting such an upgrade is awesome. Also I notice that the software featured is Race Track Builder which is also what I use so I'm really curious how this one will turn out to be. :D
I've been trying to make this upgrade happen for so many years now so to be able to finally announce it is...yeah 😁 it's something really special. Nukedrop uses RTB as the very first step for his circuit builds although has spent years building an extensive collection of textures, string objects, templates etc. He can also plug the laser scan data directly into the build and then does all of the magic in Blender later on. The dam, the pit buildings, the infrastructure...it's all going to be built from scratch 😍
Same here George 😍 been dreaming of making this happen for so many years now! Will be amazing to go wheel to wheel with you on the new version in November.
I'm not sure what's next on the to-do list after Thermalito, probably a little rest to be honest 😅 this project has been all-consuming lately and it's still only in the planning phase! Really excited though and can't wait for Nukedrop to start the build in October, will be doing plenty of sneak peeks and even a live Q&A stream with him too.
Personally i think thermalito is perfect the way it is with the layout. Sure you can go through & modernise the textures & objects which will help it look, feel & race heaps better. Youve got a real skill for track design i think you should design a new track somewhere else!
The layout itself is staying as close to the original as possible 👍 although there are some minor changes to elevation and camber on a few corners thanks to the much more detailed google earth images and laser scan data. There'll be much more minor detail in the road surface too, no more super smooth tarmac and lack of FFB. I had to make my best guess based on very limited info first time round and I was _close_ but yeah, some of the sections were a little bit off. Trust me, I'll be keeping the character of the circuit as similar as possible although I've had to slightly reprofile after the old first turn hairpin to allow for a longer pitlane. Can't wait to share it with you! As for other circuits, I had a few in the pipeline a while back which never materialised...street tracks based in Liverpool, UK and more recently Brisbane, Australia. Depending on how well this project goes, I reckon the Brissie track could be next 😉
Ha yep 👋 that's me! If you search for Thermalito Dam or Thermalito South Forebay Recreation Area that'll take you right to the circuit on Google, the roads will be pretty obvious to spot with the satellite imagery. That's one of the good things about picking a real life location when designing a circuit, having plenty of reference material to work with...although I got lucky because this is a wildfire risk area so the terrain has been laser scanned in super high detail. Completely coincidental but I'll take it! 😁
Oh wow, really?! How far away are you from Thermalito and what's the area like in reality? So many questions 😁 you can message me on Discord if that's easier for you: discord.gg/Hs9FdEk
Cheers 😎 been waiting for something like this to happen for years so I'm super stoked to see it actually coming to life! People have been unreal as well, can't believe we're already 75% of the way towards budget after only 24 hours 🧡
All good Damo and massive thanks again for helping out, you're up there now mate! Or is it Randy? Who knows... PS. Good job you didn't do that 3d print of the circuit for the wall art by the way, the layout would be out of date now 😉
@@DDFRacer Oops, yes I did forget, better give me a revised layout so I can print one then.......... Also are you just using your keyboard to edit videos still?
Thanks for getting in touch, good to have someone with local knowledge on standby if needed😁 that's awesome! Happy to report that the Kickstarter reached budget within only 6 days so we're well on target to making this project happen, the actual building work in-game should begin in October so it's hard to say exactly what we might need before then but it definitely doesn't hurt to have as much reference material as possible. If you have Discord then you can either use the link in the video description to get in touch or send a message direct to 'ddfracer' 👍 otherwise my email address is available on my RUclips 'about' page. As for the inspiration for the circuit, it's just an idea I had 15 years ago when I thought it might be cool to have a race track based near a dam. Big elevation changes, by the water, that kind of thing. I googled pictures of dams and Thermalito just stood out for some reason. When I looked at the location on a map I saw there was already a pretty good set of roads around the dam which could be used as-is so..that was that really.
It's been fun learning about the track! A small piece of my backyard is a part of this global community I had no idea even existed. Is there anything on the ground commemorating the track? A QR code on the road or something? @@DDFRacer
@@sethhendrick2 that would be pretty neat to be honest, putting a QR code somewhere in the actual real life location which then takes you to a video showcasing the circuit! I'm actually based in Brisbane Australia so have never visited Thermalito but have tried to get in touch with locals to find out more and tell them about this project. The department of water resources, local news, community groups etc, but I've not had a response yet.
wow this is cool news! Clicking the kickstarter link now =)
If there isn't your face in that orange helmet on my pit wall, there will be riots 🤣 seriously though mate, thank you! Wow!

Glad to be able to help! Super excited for the new version!

Thanks Andrew 😎 only a few hours in and already more than halfway there, incredible! Definitely wasn't expecting this kind of response so quickly.
