Jaipur is my go to supermarket beer along with Budvar/Pilsner Erquell. Visited Thornbridge 5 or 6 years ago, was a really cool spot. Got a whole load of takeaway beers and then went to a BYOB curry house in Bakewell and had an amazing meal. Good fucking times. Great video!

I just brewed a blonde ale split batch using Wyeast London Ale III in one fermenter & Imperial Yeast Flagship (Chico Strain) in the other fermenter . The way yeast subdue bitterness is totally a thing. Cheers from California!

Here in Salt Lake City, Wasatch and Squatters have been around a long time, but I think Kiitos or Shades really kicked off the craft beer revolution in Utah.
Green Mountain is my absolute favourite. I was gutted to see 'reduced to clear' in my local Tesco. I must be the only person that buys it. Obviously I snapped it all up.
I always thought Jaipur in the can tasted different to the bottle, Cask is not even in the same ballpark! this is definitely my go to beer when my tastebuds need a rest from getting destroyed by New England IPA/DIPAs. Great video, look forward to seeing you visit another brewery in the future!
Absolutely. Some people criticise Thornbridge for being middle of the road, but their more balanced approach to flavour is vital to the industry and no one does it better.
Jaipur is banging from the PerfectDraft, but I generally want something a little less 'polite' in my IPAs. Considering the dearth of West Coasters in the UK there's some solid choices from Thornbridge, including Pondera, the collab with Firestone Walker. Nice vid, cheers, and congrats on getting married!
The straight up Halcyon is amazing too. I was there a few days after a fresh batch was brewed and it was all sold out already. Nearly walked straight back out the door.

@@TheCraftBeerChannel It was slightly soapy and at 5.9% it wasn't doing loads for me flavor wise hints of citrus + grapefruit bitterness. No idea how long it had been on the supermarket shelf so that could have been a factor.
@@JackBWakeham Uho - well soapy is no good at all, but remember it was conceived in the days where hops were supposed to be intertwined with the malt rather than cutting right through. So it should be caramel, orange peel, grapefruit and pine but never overwhelming, never punching you in the face with hops but remaining crushable for a few cans. Much like Pliny, Blind Pig, Two Hearted, Race 5 and that 2000s run of West Coasters.

Your point on the hops being intertwined with the malt definitely rings true though and makes a lot of sense. Its certainly more of an easy drinker than something that punches you in the face, maybe i went into it with the wrong expectations (does happen sometimes)
@@JackBWakeham God we do it all the time! You get so used to nursing and sipping at these massive DIPAs and Imperial stouts that you forget some IPAs are designed to be crushed...even if the ABV is implying that's a bad idea!
I haven't had anything from Thornbridge in years. It seems I only see them in supermarkets these days and I feel that's turned me off from them however, after watching this video I think I'll have a little revisit and see how it's all holding up. Is Halcyon still around? I remember St. Petersburg being a good one as well. As far as breweries who kick started craft, at least living in London, I would say Thornbridge, Meantime, Camden Town, Beavertown, Brewdog and Kernel. And of all those the only brewery I still drink beer from in 2020 is Kernel.
I think their bigger beers do dominate their narrative but they release endless neew beers every month. I think they said they did 60 last year so more than one a week!

@@jamescoxon9636 I know what you mean and yeah you're right but to me since Thornbridge Brewery itself is about an hour ish west of sheffield, the owners are from Sheff (They make a beer with the Sheffield Wednesday Badge on the bottle) Many people in sheffield consider them a Sheffield brewery since they are still within the area of Sheffield (Just not the city center).
Sadly just never got into it because of the traditional name and marketing agency can art and I'm generally not a fan of tradition turned craft breweries as you can usually always taste that traditional twang in the beer, usually some oxidation. Jaipur being darker than expected for 100% pale malt sounds like the the wort is over-boiled. However will give it another try next time I'm in Tesco.

Jonny are they saying Jaipur cask needed to be drier? So 1.006/1.008 rather than 1.010 finishing gravity? Or the other way around? Proper knowledge bombs in here! My latest video on doing a hoppy cask beer didn't quite work as like they said was a bit flabby but a drier finish could make it a lot better ....
Not sure they said it NEEDS to be drier but their British ale yeast does attenuate further and I think it really does help with the fact that cask can feel a little flabbier and sweeter due to the lower carbonation.
Hopefully they may shed some extra light. I'm working on a clone recipe currently as Johnny made me buy a Pint365 and I'm looking for interesting beers to put on it....

i picked up some jaipur from morrisons cause everyone was raving about it and personaly i thought it was garbage didnt rate it at all, i drank it dont get me wrong but certainly wouldnt be buying it again, came across as just another beer thats had all the life filtered out of it
It is unlikely you did - they are very consistent and sell their beer pretty fast so it is usually fresh. I mean it is an "old school" west coast beer so if you are an NEIPA lover it is gonna be a totally different experience - but if you are a west coast fan and think that then you are very entitled to your opinion and we just disagree!

Here's the abridged version: British sailors, while sailing to India, loaded up barrels of with hops, because hops were a preservative. The hops hung around in the for so long that they lost their fruity flavor and left a bitter tasting
You are correct, but the American IPA is a very different style and this is what Jaipur is based on. Its relation to historic English IPA is almost non-existent at this point!

The beers sounded darn good, and I had to find Jaipur straight away. I think it was 6% or more when it first came out. It went down really well until you got up and then it hit you. Also watching James May and Oz Clarke Drink to Britain seeing them visit Thornbridge as well. Oz thought he could spot Jaipur every time it was poured. Suffice to say he was talking b***ocks! So glad they're still going strong.
brewers need to create if they only make the same beer over and over no mater how good it is the creativity has gone and also the passion brewing becomes boring and nothing to look forward to and i know this as a former brewer at stancill brewery the owners gave no passion for creating anything new and no support they thort they could conquer the world with anciant recipes made for drinkers that would do 10 to 15 pint in an evening they did not understand those times have gone and people want a new exsperiance everytime they spend there cash
Haha - you say average, I say balanced, nuanced and crushable. Not all beers need to slap you around the face (even if it is a hell of a lot of fun) and Thornbridge are the best in the UK at American-style beer you want to drink by the pint. We need breweries like BrewDog and Thornbridge both as a gateway to new drinkers and for reliable and perfectly made beer you can enjoy all night.

Until the new brewery came online they were contract brewing in five different locations, and speaking to distributors there were quality, clarity and haze issues with every delivery... and you never even knew if the beer was shipped from Belgium or brewed down the road in Tottenham!

I remember Meantime did a similar thing and transferred some production to The Netherlands and claimed that the Dutch beer only made up 10% of any bottle or can. They were never the same since and if you want an example of really poor beer masquerading as craft beer, look no further than Meantime.

Interesting...I have never heard that criticism before, they are one of the most consistent breweries in the UK with some serious QA equipment.
It must have been the Dark malts that gave me that. Was not a case for any of the pale beers.

Yeah Pondera was freakin' ace. We like our IPAs big too, but a cask of Jaipur is the kind of beer well drink all night

Need to try Jaipur in a couple more formats really, had it in can and was not overly impressed. Would be interested to hear others takes on it in can.
What was your issue with it? Usually it is on top form in can because turnover is so incredibly fast.
