- This is not ironic. This is not a joke. Just a deep-dive analysis and (slightly) obsessive look at one of my favorite comfort movies. Don't ask me who my favorite Newsie is, the answer is all of them.

Fun fact: This movie is one of the only movies that I almost cried watching, not because it was sad, but because of how hapy it makes me :)

Newsies is my favourite musical too and I've seen it twice in London already and hope to go back, yes I know all the songs both movie and musical and yes I can tell the boys apart, my favourite is Racetrack.

If I recall correctly, in the original script, Jack was severely traumatized by his family history (including, I think, watching his brother die?) so Santa Fe and the lie that he has family there is a fantasy to cope (which is supported in the song, imo).
(Gotta say, bit annoyed that you were irritated by it in the movie but in the stage musical he outright sings about, like, farming.)
I don't care for the song much in general. But I especially hate how in the prologue version during the stage musical he's basically like "you'll be able to walk and run like everyone else, Crutchie!!" like NO he WON'T don't LIE to the boy!!

I love this movie and a few years back I spent some years time to identify racetracks true identity. We all know he was a real person but no one has yet to truly identify him, although a few claim to know but I have seen no one with definitive proof. I've seen some people say Antonio Higgins and others say Ed Higgins, but . Using just the paper-trail, I was able to find a Thomas Higgins listed as a "News Pape Agent" living at 1018 Avenue A in Manhattan in the 1900 US Census. On March 24th, 1902 a Thomas Higgins (not 100% sure if the same person as in the Census), who is listed as a newsboy living at the Metropolitan Lodging House, contracted Smallpox and was moved to a hospital. He died on March 2nd, 1912 from tuberculosis, buried in National Cemetery, occupation listed as News Dealer.

Blink and Mush is literally like the only ship fanfic I would read lol. Also don't care for love interests ever because, again, not into ships, so I don't really like Katherine either. Sarah just feels like she doesn't even have a purpose in the story

Idk why I actually liked Sarah she wasn't my favorite but I didn't hare her. Kathrine on the other hand, she was literally only in their for feminisum and plot convince. Apparently nobody treats her differently. Bc she's a girl. And she's sassy, oh course she's sassy cause that's what woamn were like in 1899. Also she's Pulitzers daughter for some reason. And don't *Even* get me started on the fact that they took away an entire scene with Jack and the refudge and the newsies helping him escape and that scene with Davey and him in the Alley. Yea they took all that away just so Jack and Kathrine could have their damn kiss. Also she gets her own song now!? Why didn't racetrack get his own song, I mean I guess it was king of New York but that wasn't just him. But Kathrine gets her own song!? Broadway just took Denton and Sarah and made them kissand i hate it. Also why do ppl love Broadway racetrack so much? Movie racetrack is literally one of my comfort charecters (not tryna sound weird) excuse my rant but it had to be said 😭🤠

Wow. I saw Newsies in the theater and it had a really great big influence on my life when it comes my views on labor unions and worker’s rights…but this is cool too I guess. Just glad it’s still relevant.

Maybe I need to get back to exploring old Newsies sites, because while Blanket was not listed at the first source I found for Tumbler, perhaps he is somewhere else. I'm gonna check out that Tumblr they linked on the Wayback in the meantime.
I have records of the snapping kid from the start being called Snap or Snaps (makes sense that the guy we know as Snaps is the snapper).

I think people were confused about Blanket in the old days, too.
In case anyone is curious like I was, early online Newsies fandom had the biggest overlaps with Swing Kids and Roundhouse, followed by The Monkees.
Don't feel bad using fairy in this context, it wasn't as derogatory at the time and was one of the few words available so it was used by most people (except the Manliest Men, who were just queer if they said it at all).

Unlike Tumbler, Blanket does not have a well-documented history of presence in the fandom and most modern fans do not know his name. FFN user SilverShoes17, who posted the first fic currently available online to feature Blanket, wrote that, "I am labeling Blanket as the first boy we see sleeping in the lap of the Horace Greeley statue." They had seen him mentioned on a fansite but did not know his identity.[1] User mayday321 was able to provide context for his origins in the reviews.
Blamket waas named by the TNC (Tumbler Newsies Community). NML (Newsies Mailing List) named him Slider. At the reunion, the actor, Brian Friedman, said his name was Carzy Legs. NO one will ever use that name. He was in the very beginging of the Sieze the day reprise, the one Bumlets was leaning on. He was also the last to leave the nun's, and people also say he was the boy 'Patrick' the mom was singing about, because they look identical.

You surely recognize Blanket. Many have speculated that Blanket is Patrick and one backstory is that he is indeed Patrick. Well how can he stand next to his mother then? Good question. Many say that his mother is blind.
Blanket is played by Brian Friedman, who is now a respected choregraper. He was at the Newsies reunion and is quoted as saying that on set his character’s name was Crazy Legs.

Let’s note hate on Sarah that much it’s just poor writing that’s makes her boring, she was just there to be the female love interest, just there to get Jack that kiss at the end of the movie. For we know she probably works at a sweatshop every day and doesn’t complain because in those times it wouldn’t be socially acceptable for a lady to complain, for all we know she faced hardships she was a working kid too. The only reason she so boring is because she was poorly written and we never really got to know her story.
