I've had a dream for such, such a long time... Kermode. Roger Ebert. At The Movies. Now THAT is a show I would damn look forward to (even if it's obviously no longer possible...). All hail genius movie critics. RIP Gene Siskel.
I don't think Mark got to the route of the problem. I think the route of the problem is that Seth Rogan plays (*plays* not "is") a giant douchebag. And it's impossible to care at all what they get up to because of the chemistry between the sophisticated, mindful Keto, and the main characte who fails to be convincing. Terrible film.
When I heard Seth Rogan was going to be the Green Hornet, I decided to give this a miss. Nothing about his acting style, or ability tells me he was right for this.
We remember The Green Hornet, when we were young. Seth Rogan, managed to turn the Green Hornet into a coward, and someone with a mental disorder. No reason whatsoever to watch/get this movie.
Whatever happens in this movie blame it on Rotgen as he wrote and executive produced it and boy he is the main character lol. We should have the last laugh by watching this movie (If you still feel interested in watching it) when it is shown on TV and not spending a cent ourselves on it
@Bugsyboy333 I like Lee's Hulk: It's an ambitious, if not entirely successful film. The character study was the best part (ie the Jekyll & Hyde parallels & the father-son dynamic he added to the backstory. The CGI was awful. As for Norton's version - I should recuse myself b/c he's a personal fave of mine - but that film missed the mark as well. The best parts were cut: when Banner was on the run, or when he was learning to control his power. The set pieces in both films were disappointing.
@BRm2008 Yes! That too! He was SUCH a HORRIBLE choice for this movie. AND to WRITE the damn thing! I'm glad it bombed. That means no sittier sequal. Lol!
They need to give MarK a microphone on a stand 'cause the sound of him hitting the table is really starting to get to me. Ironic since he himself pointed it out in a podcast.
The 3D was shit. It was like watching a pop-up book version of a bad sitcom being read to you by a music video director who after realizing he was out of his depth had eaten half of the script (The part that contained action scenes) then spewed it back up in montage format.
Just saw this in the cinema and the 3D worked really well. Did get overly CGI heavy towards the end. Kermode's fun to watch but I don't think anybody should take his reviews too seriously. He's just a big bag of prejudices.
This film was unnecessary and SUCKED. Even when this show was on TV I may have seen it once and did not know one person who liked it. The only thing the show was known for was introducing Bruce Lee to the world but this was so bad he bolted for Hong Kong. Was anyone waiting around saying we really need to see the Green Hornet movie.
If your objective is to make a buddy comedy about a superhero and a sidekick, the same absurdities inherent to the Green Hornet franchise that got the TV series canceled after one season (e.g. Britt Reid's uselessness compared to Kato, the far better half of the duo being relegated to second fiddle status, that ridiculous gas gun...) make it perfect for that adaptation. There's a lot of material to make fun of. It could have been great if it had a coherent screenplay and if Gondry had been given more creative control.
Gee Mark, don't bother elaborating and going detail. Just moan about the 3D and the fact that it's not as quirky as you'd like. Don't bother truly explaining why so were bored.
Kermode's in merkmode
A good rant from the good doctor and it's only January I wonder how the rest of the year will pan out.
"The Green Bee!!"...
"Sounds like a knitting store.."
XD
I've had a dream for such, such a long time...
Kermode.
Roger Ebert.
At The Movies.

Seth Rogan and Michel Gondrey didn't like the film either. Probably due to executive meddling.
I liked Green Hornet - saw it in 2D on Netflix yesterday.

Was I the only person on earth who liked Ang Lee's the Hulk? I thought it was absolutely mesmerising and Nick Nolte is fantastic in it.
I liked it too!
Jennifer Connelly. 'Nuff said.
i thought it had some good things.
ha the guy shhhhing the guy on the phone in the background, nice
Inglorious UGHMHMHM
The film’s well acted, well casted & action packed, however the film doesn’t deliver the expectations the film needs. (50%) (2.5/5 stars) (mixed)
saw this tonight and i fell asleep for 25mins in the middle...
When I heard Seth Rogan was going to be the Green Hornet, I decided to give this a miss. Nothing about his acting style, or ability tells me he was right for this.
@ToBePhair Exactly. Even just voicing a CGI character in Spiderwick, he was the weakest part of it and it's a small part.
@Bagrah10 I used to think I was the only one too :P I'm still not sure what people hate about it!
Mayo's T-shirt: "If you were dead, you'd be home now".
Best thing was the original became easier to find. Bruce Lee ❤
We remember The Green Hornet, when we were young. Seth Rogan, managed to turn the Green Hornet into a coward, and someone with a mental disorder. No reason whatsoever to watch/get this movie.
I'm not saying Green Hornet was good, but Kermde seems to dislike Rogen deeply for some reason
"The greeeen beeee"...that was the one funny line in the whole movie, but I thought that line was pretty funny.
'Hulk' was infinitely superior to the generic 'The Incredible Hulk'
I didn't think it was that bad!

where was the 3d I didn't see it
@BRm2008 Yes! That too! He was SUCH a HORRIBLE choice for this movie. AND to WRITE the damn thing! I'm glad it bombed. That means no sittier sequal. Lol!
Ryan reynolds was fine in the movie
I feel bad for Christoph Waltz =( He's made bad choices since Inglourious
@90mv and oh yeah he killed the culture show with a bit of help from lauren laverne
They need to give MarK a microphone on a stand 'cause the sound of him hitting the table is really starting to get to me. Ironic since he himself pointed it out in a podcast.
I don't understand why he is still seeing movies in 3d when there are 2d releases available.
did it bore him?
@lydz25
Happened with so many of Tarantino's casts

Is it just me, or does everyone else prefer listening to the Kermode videos where he rips the film he is reviewing?
@ jacktalbot no its not you, sex in the city 2 greatest review ever .
i preferred super to kickass
@messthetics he reviews all types of films I don't think he's elitist he can enjoy a silly film if it does what it's supposed to do
he probably killed the movie stone dead. who gonna see it now?
mayo's hilarious
sounds like he was bored to me.
There aren't any 3D bits
Anyone whos seen this, should I go and see it in 2D or 3D??
3d is a waste of money
well again a case of no plot movie, no red thin line
@FetishHero epic yawn is epic! Who is he, why is he videobombing Kermode?
Soooo....you didn't like it?
Mayo's smug interruptions are getting old!
@jibsmokestack1 he actually need to shut up and let kermode do the business
I came here for the yawn
mmm
Just saw this in the cinema. Thought it was hilarious, 3D worked
Are you not allowed to say "bastards" on the radio?
i slightly dislike seth rogan as an actor sorry fans im sure he's a good guy though

This movie sucked. Boring and Rogen was so annoying. He wrote the script so he gave himself soooo much dialogue. And tons of dumb dialogue too.
@messthetics hah hah ok
So..If Kermode likes the director he is excused from criticism and the studio gets it instead? hmm

Mayo should learn some goddamn manners and stop interrupting. It's not funny, it's not quirky and it's not clever.
