To me it seems more likely that it's just a bug or something, because it's possible that the way spawning Skeleton Crew works is the game checks if there's a Skeleton still on the card at the beginning of Royal/Leshy's turn, but doesn't check how many there are
I feel it would’ve been more interesting if the crew actually took up spots on your board and damaged adjacent cards. That way they would act as enemies in a unique way and not just straight up make the fight easier.

The game was never fully deleted. If you did the ARG (which is impossible today, which is why I don't consider this a spoiler), the very end of it shows P03 restarting the upload and then an ASCII stoat winking at you.

Only 3 of these floppies were ever made, and only the first 3 to request one, got them. Each had one-third of the very last puzzle. These are obviously impossible to do today.

Leshy and po3 had unique card games. I wish they would have done the same with the other 2 bosses besides those 2 tiny ending sequences.

That's how the Grimora mod did the Royal fight. His second phase has swash bucklers taking up spots on your board and damaging your cards.

i think that its a little bit of a cop-out that the ship actively tries to help you kill it to such an extent
