I truly enjoyed the video. I live in Duluth Minnesota USA. I dive mostly in Lake Superior. The water is never warm. Average surface temp of 38-42 degrees. That’s 3.3 - 5.5 C. We have the best preserved shipwrecks in the world here but it’s an icy endeavor to see them! I’ve been looking to full face masks for comfort, and this video helped! Thank you for the great info and safe diving to you all!!!
What type of communication system were you using? That was an impressive communication demonstration. We had the Ocean Reef GSM G-diver communication system but couldn't get past garbled speech. We sent them in under warranty to Ocean Reef, and their top Italian tech was visiting and changed out the mike cables and tested them and said there was nothing wrong. We still had garbled speech with the exception of a clear phrase once or twice. We sold them off as well as our G-diver masks. My wife now has an OTS Guardian, and I have the Kirby Morgan MOD I.
Hi Jeff, Jeff here can you clarify I know you touched on this below. As far as your recorded audio capture with this system. I understand the Ocean Reef com portion that attaches to the mask. SO did you use the Ocean Reef M105 Digital DC Surface unit to capture your underwater commentary, and if so this would also suggest you needed to attach a digital voice recored or audio sound recording device to the surface unit as well then sync the audio in your post production video edits, correct? Surface unit is quite capable for mission critical communications however for simple RUclips videos quite expensive.
Hi Jeff, No I didn't use the Ocean Reef M105 Digital DC Surface unit, but it is a good bit of kit if you can go that way. I simply use the Ocean Reef mic hard wired to a digital micro recorder in a home made housing. It is then just a matter of syncing up in the edit.
Scubaverse thanks for your response. I have been thinking of doing the same with a Tascam DR-10L Portable Digital Audio Recorder in a waterproof enclosure cabled to the Ocean Reef underwater microphone kit to my G.Divers integrated mask. 🤙 Cheers, #SeattleRingHunter
Certainly looks that way but the bubbles were hardly noticeable. generally if the tide or current is coming from behind, then as with all regs bubbles do get in the way
Hi Scubaverse, Great video thanks very much, I see this video was made in August 2015 time, can i ask have you continued to use the FFMs in your dives or reverted to the conventional half mask?
Scubaverse i think they meant if water got inside the mask. like in the normal set up you would just clear it by looking up and breathing out through your nose and the water flushes out the bottom. is it similar with a FFM?
+ DracariaEntertainment -- Yes, it's similar with a FFM, except that with this model you don't have to look up. With the purge valve being where it is, near the chin, you look slightly down if you're in an upright posture in the water, or just keep your normal swimming position if you're horizontal in the water. (Regular masks with purge valves in the nose work the same way; you don't look up, which would move water away from the valve. Looking up is for non-valve masks, so that all the water drains down and back, near the bottom skirt of the mask, to be blown out.)
Hmm… you didn’t seem too comfortable with it. You kept pushing on it when you inhaled. I agree. A small training course would help stop that. Takes getting used to. But! After you get used to them, these are fantastic!! Good job
Hi Ahmed, There are two soft rubber plugs in the mask that press into your nostrils if you apply pressure to the outside of the mask. It's very easy and effective.
They are a bit pricey, but I just remind myself that the price includes the regulator as well as the mask. Since I dive mostly in the cold Puget Sound, where a full-face mask would be very welcome, I'm setting aside a little spare change every week and maybe I'll be able to buy one...in 10 years or so. :-(
@@stponyt He said, "one of *these* FFMs." *These* FFMs *DO* include the regulator, bud. (I am, of course, aware that there are other models that don't include the regulator...I'm wearing one in my avatar photo here.)
Quantum Ridley You still have to equalize your ears. There are plugs in the front that allow you to pinch your nose to enable you to equalize your ears.
I see what you mean now. There should be no reason to keep touching the regulator on the front. Perhaps he is just not that comfortable with the mask or something.
Oh sorry about that. It really is a very comfortable dive and easy to breath. We have tried to adjust the sound but that's just the way it comes. Cheers, Jeff.
I dove a Ocean Reef Neptune II for 10 years and normal regs for 15 years prior... I will not go back to a normal reg again! It's THAT comfortable and easy.
So JP, did you ever get around to trying diving? As one Patches Pal to another, if you haven't you should. For most people the anxiety disappears after the first few underwater breaths.
I'm sorry but i'm pretty sure you did not put on your mask correctly in the video, top straps are sticking out too long so you did not tightened the straps in the correct order. First middle, then bottom, top last. One of those little things you learn correctly during the course ;-)

Johnathan Winters what are your favorite dive spots there?
So strange to see a diver talking to us during a dive hahaha... THE FUTURE
Hi, I want to do the video with an audio record. Could you happy to share what equipment did you used?
Great video...question.....being that there is no mouth piece ....do you consume more air ...???
Wow, talk a bout a late reply. So sorry. Just found your message. Answer is no, air consumption is just the same.
I do not go diving to still hear other people talk. ^^'
LiquidGF
You dont need the communication
Better than playing underwater charades
Believe me when your buddy's in trouble you would be glad you can communicate with them!
How do you record audio from your radio system for video like this?
On to a hard wired recorder in a housing
@@Scubaverse can you link / refer to the type or brand that you used for this?
@@Scubaverse Sir, I can't find the housing you are talking about. Can you link it?
@@johnchurch2321 Hi. Yes, sorry, it's a home made housing from Perspex.

can this dive mask be used in a motorized hookah set -up instead of a scuba tank system??
Sorry, really don't know. Contact Criag at c.mainprize@oceanreefgroup.com He will be able to give you information.

@@SeattleRingHunter Should work well.
How are you capturing the audio?
hi, may i know what communication device you are using ? and how you recorded the voice during underwater ?
Hi Jackson, It is the standard Ocean reef mike and recorder.
how can you record the song?
Lots of bubbles in the line of vision upon exhaling. Was this a noticeable issue during your testing?
Certainly looks that way but the bubbles were hardly noticeable. generally if the tide or current is coming from behind, then as with all regs bubbles do get in the way
Hi Scubaverse, Great video thanks very much, I see this video was made in August 2015 time, can i ask have you continued to use the FFMs in your dives or reverted to the conventional half mask?
Hi Stuart, Still use the FFM especially in the winter when the water is cold.
Do you need communication devices underwater to be heard or can you talk to your buddy if you're close enough?
You can hear without if you are really close, but otherwise you need a receiver and transmitter
@@ScubaverseCool
why do you keep pressing it against your face?
Can this mask be used with a rebreather?
Rip right ear
How exactly do you clear it, say if in an unlikely situation it leaks a bit?
Hi, Very easy indeed. There is a nose plug that fits neatly up to your nostrils that allow you to equalise.

Wonderful breathing sound
How easy is it to equalize with this full face mask?
Hi, Very easy indeed. There is a nose plug that fits neatly up to your nostrils that allow you to equalise.
It seems like you want to press the mask to your face while you are talking, does it leak when you move your jaw?
Hi Calendil,
No leaks. It's just a habit I have. Must try not to do it.
would this mask be viable for bearded divers?
The seal on FFM is amazing, I’m not sure how a beard may affect the sesl
How can i equalize pressure .. falsalva ???
You can push the mask towards your face which presses a nose piece onto your nose to close it. Then you may proceed using your equalization technique.
Hi Ahmed, There are two soft rubber plugs in the mask that press into your nostrils if you apply pressure to the outside of the mask. It's very easy and effective.
I found the equalizing is very difficult
great review wish i would of started here
I have one. it keeps on shaking while i breathe..is it normal?
it's called chattering, and you can fix it by adjusting the flow valve on the left
i would love to give one of these FFMs a go but i just wish they werent all so expensive! maybe one day.

It seems you press on the front of he mask a lot while your describing it. Do you need to do so because you lose a good deal while talking,
I think really it's just habit and will stop doing that now you mention it

Why am I having a panic attack while watching this? I don’t think I will ever be able to dive. Something I have always wanted to do.
JP Patches im learning it now. Just bought this mask. I feel safer in a full mask then without
Go to a local shop and ask to do a Discover SCUBA class. It is an into in a pool with an instructor.

Must be using o2 faster
Why? Other than talking, his AIR consumption should be normal.
One thing is no fitting for a snorkel for surface breathing.
Why are you always touching it though? Literally every inhale younare molesting your regulator
Yeah i actually want to know if hes u comfortable or something. If im gonna buy this im not gonna be doing that every time or i wont buy it

wow
Hi Gary, It's a great mask. One of the of the things I like about it in the winter months is that it keeps my face warm and dry.
Somebody, please edit this to have a shark swimming behind him. Preferably the blind albino one from 47 meters down uncaged.
