As somebody who recently got into restoring cast iron after finding a small block logo griswold griddle for $16 at a thrift store, your series is amazing and so informative! yesterday i picked up a 3 notch lodge i couldnt date but happened to watch another one of your videos and that helped tremendously with the info on screen!
I'LL tell you I watch all your videos ,,,,, and they do nothing but make me JEALOUS !! PS. The owner should be put in jail ( with cast iron bars ) for the way he treats his cast iron ! THANK YOU FRANK FROM MONTANA....
I tried to avoid having to use a lye tank, Its just too hazardous for me. So I found soaking my pans in a highly concentrated washing soda solution works just as well and has a lot less risk. I add about 3x’s the amount of washing soda than my Etank. I soak a pan for 24-48hr before the etank. Many times they come out clean before getting to the etank.
Yes that can be an issue, but also dealing with the fumes or any possible accidents if kids or pets get into it. And then there's having to deal with proper disposal. For me, the concentrated washing soda solution so far seems to work just as well as the lye with no need for gloves, eye protection and I can safely dispose of it in my yard when I'm done. @@wisdomstudio Just a thought, if you decided to try something different. Love the videos by the way. I'm living vicariously through you when you find sweet deals!
This place's indoor prices are crazy. Its amazing they wont sell stuff to you like that lid. Very nice find on the raised 7, nice pick, those are great pans. 40 bucks really isn't that bad, both of those pans would get you your money back if sold. Nicer to keep em though :p.
I really like how the community really wants to get to the bottom of this. I will do my best to try and help as best I can, and appreciate everybody's wisdom and experience!

Awesome! Glad I could help. And I couldn't do it without others in the community being so generous with their information.

Are you just worried about getting lye on your skin? I always have a hose nearby in case that happens. I haven't run into any problems yet.
