I’m so glad I found your channel man. I live in the Asheville area currently. I’m a 30 year old Afghanistan vet and have been forcing myself to be normal and fit in for the last 8 years and it’s miserable. I finally decided I’m gonna hit the road and leave all this behind me, hop trains west and spend my time in the back country enjoying peace. Maybe work the odd seasonal job or do some volunteering. Your channel is providing so much valuable knowledge, and more importantly to me, affirmation that I don’t have to be like everyone else. Just wanted to say thanks
Definitely keep the vids coming. You have solid advice for people that choose to or have to live rough. Lived that way in mu teens and 20's, and to be honest i do miss the peace of a hidden camp in the woods while enjoying the amenities of a town.
Amazing stories. Thinking about taking a trip on freight across the US, but of course want to give the respect, safety, and low profile of the culture.
You are an interesting guy, I love the content and getting a look into a life I know very little about. Appreciate the stories and look forward to hearing more from you.
'Question" if your a to yourself person and use a gym for showers and screw off for 8-12 hours for work or whatever and sleep on the floor and only have a 35l backpack and bmx bike would you be noticed as easy? I would buy a cheap desk and chair for the "art, office" look and say I do private IT and need a chill space to work that I have "4" roommates and I gotta get that me time to be able to focus better on my job! I'm a very young clean cut looking dude. Your thoughts please and thank you.
Very very doable, depending on how many other people are in the building late at night. One of my old friends slept under his desk in an office at Duke University for a good while, using a locked file cabinet to store his bedroll. One of my favorite things to say is “run the experiment.” Maybe your hypothesis is wrong. Maybe it’s right. Either way, you get actionable data.
@@PitchBlackForge Thanks I'm doing living in house labor in the south right now stacking my money and mainly to keep me and my bike out the cold until feb then I'm thinking to catch out to the west coast but everyone says shit has changed since 2014 been over on the east coast for a min! any thoughts on the west coast I know you were recently out on the rails.
All the big cities in the US have changed since the opioid crisis really took root. The west coast feels like it got hit especially bad, though. Small places like Olympia and Eugene are way worse than they were a decade ago.

Yeah I’ve got a place with my girlfriend. Before moving in with her a couple of years ago, I spent a few months on the road to visit friends and do a little work out west. I tend to settle in a place for a while these days and make excursions from there. The artist studio was pretty stable, even though it wasn’t zoned for residence.
It served its purpose for me. I left to ride trains again when it got warm, visiting the bristlecone pines of Methuselah’s Grove, driving for a friend’s band on a short tour, and camping all over the US. I rode 10,000 miles on freight that year. Plus driving about 2,000 miles for that tour.
I had a back-hawk and grimey carhartts 20 years ago. But I’ve also been straight edge forever. Be careful who you trust. For sure. But not all the punx are scumbags.

Always love the stories like this.
Glad you like it. More to come.
Enjoy the stories and advice. Having a local woodsmen nightwatcher can be priceless. Win win.

Nice one M8, I enjoyed learning a bit more about you. Best wishes !
How about the harsh times? Getting stuck in a bad situation " weather " with what you had on you? Good times? Worst times? Appreciate your openess.
I’ll add this to my notes and try to cover these bases in another video. Thanks for the feedback.

Interesting stuff. So you have a stable existence these days?

Turn a sock tip inside out and ziptie it on.
Why’d you leave the ashville cabin?

Avoid dirty kids. Thats all i learned
Definitely don't fall asleep around them. No matter how nice their dog seems
Sleep alone and you will wake up alone, as nature intended
