So we're in the middle of a remodel, we asked for concrete floors. We had all our tiles lifted up, then the floor was sanded and buffed, but the main living space was a still a little messy with minor cracks and holes, so our concrete guy did a couple of layers of Ardex Feather Finish, and called it a day. Told us it was done. It's dried blotchy and messy. That is definitely NOT the floor we paid $15k for!! It's also soft - you can scrape it with your fingernail. Then I found out about SDM. This looks like what we need. Our whole floor is on a very slight slope, so a self leveling product might not work, but this is trowel-on, correct? Do you think this is what we need!? Does it dry a consistent color? (we obviously don't mind slight variations in color and texture, as is concretes nature). The Feather Finish is an underlayment, there's no way that could be considered a finished concrete floor!?
So most of the house the concrete was sanded/ground and sealed but then one area resurfaced with feather finish? if this is the case then that guy needs to either learn how to do things right or go out of business. Even if you have someone resurface the one area correctly, its going to look like a giant patch in the floor. it will never match the rest. If you want it all to match, it will all have to be resurfaced with a microtopping. Either that or the feather finish ground off, cracks filled and then sealed like the rest of floor. If resurfacing then yes the SD-M is ok for a finish coat. But I would never use it. It will most likely have a botchy look though, like in this video (very ugly in my opinion and looks like a mess) Its very rare to come across someone that knows how to install micro-toppings correctly. For some reason in Europe they all seem to know how but here in the US guys cant figure it out and the finish looks like this video..total mess Look up Ideal Work, Topciment, CimentArt, Duraamen and find an installer. The first 3 are all products from either Italy or Spain and are expensive, Duraamen is local and much more affordable. But if you can find an installer of these products, you should be pretty safe in getting it installed correctly
Thank you for your comment. Ardex SDM will definitely improve the final look and increase durability of your floor. Make sure you seal it 2-3 times after sanding SDM (you might also need 2-3 coats). Good luck! Let’s us know how satisfactory finish will you achieve.
@@duomit Looks beautiful! Im in the process of refinishing floors for a job and was wondering what sealer or poly you used for this type of application??
What sealer was used here? Thanks.
WB Epoxy plus high-solids urethane
Where is this floor located?

So you can use thus as regular flooring instead of subflooring ? Asking as I want the concrete look but the structure cant support it
Yes, but it should be a topping material, not underlayment.
How is it holding after 3 months??
WB epoxy and urethane keeps everything perfect!
I see feather finish, not SDT
I'm guessing the Feather Finish was to do the base coat, filling in all the tile joints. Then the SD-T was the top coat. Just a guess...
I meant SD-M...
@@floydhatton4853 100% right! 3 layers of FF plus 2 coats of SDM

Old floor was better
Agree.
