  • Laser metal deposition rises to the challenge! Mott Corporation, an engineering company specializing in filtration and flow control technology, came to us to weld a component made of porous 316L stainless steel. The problem was that the material was too porous for typical autogenous laser (LBW) or electron beam (EBW) welding. Our solution was to try laser metal deposition (LMD) instead. Thanks to the low heat input of LMD and the process of using metal powder as the filler material, we were able to overcome this joining challenge.
