It might help if you extended the antenna all the way out, you're not going to hear anything with it clamped down or better yet hook up an external antenna via the antenna port. Not sure why some of you SWL guys don't know how to operate a simple radio like the Sangean pretty basic stuff. I use the Sangean 909x2 almost daily never have any problems, a good antenna or long wire attached in the antenna port is way better than using the radio "barefoot". I suggest the MLA-30 loop antenna or a 30ft long wire to improve reception. Roof mounted antennas are best if you can set one up.

I had the one with fw 078 and it too was rubbish, 062I I never heard of! Anyway I sent it back the same day! As well as other faults all SW freqs were off by a full 5khz eg Channel 292 on 9670 was turning up on 9665! Such a disappointment from a company like Sangean, they still make great radios such as the PR-D4W and my original 909 from 20+ years ago still works a treat !

What exactly is the problem with your unit? The buzzing sound if touch screen and antenna? Why would you do that if you are listening to the radio? If you were to connect the antenna and tune it a bit it would have been more interesting perhaps.

I see you also have the Sony IC 2001D.I went through 3 of them each had problems with the CPU unit as well as brittle and broken ribbon cables. But my much older 2001 has worked well for over 10 years after buying it at a radio parts Ham sale with no problems at all.Other problem with those models is the dial face is far too small.

It’s called an RF gain, not a mic gain. Lol

I had been looking at this one as I want one with sw,sb and air so I guess I will keep looking, it seems everyone I look at has issues with it no matter the brand I hope the new generations will be much better.

Who is trying to fool who here? My best guess is that your radio is not an authentic Sangean ATS-909X2 or it is a defective unit. I could find nothing on the internet for "Sangean New Zealand" or "Sangean Aukland New Zealand." I have two 909X2s sold by the retailer Amazon in the USA. These work flawlessly and were distributed by Sangean America Inc. as listed at the Sangean website. I have a first production model 909X2 (2020) that was software ver 070 until Sangean America USA reflashed that radio for me to the improved ver 073 later in the year. My newer 909X2 made in March 2022 is also ver 073. I heard that 909X2s made after April 2022 are software ver 078 to work with a replacement IC from a different parts manufacturer. Still, I don't know if the software versions used in the USA are the same as elsewhere in the world. True, your serial number sticker does not have the manufacturing date code that mine do. This date code is explained in the owners manual. I doesn't look like the SSB functions are working correctly on your radio. I saw no test for SW with the whip antenna extended so I have no comment on this.

It is from sangean nz...i got a 3rd unit after this one and all was good.. version and serial was correct and the unit worked well until the main tuning knob gave out 9 days later...So went and bought a real radio from icom..ic7300 had that for 2 months now and no problems at all...The sangean guy felt bad and delivered the 3rd radio in person well i checked it out and replaced the 2nd one..i did not do a video in the 3rd one...its now packed away not being used

@@willowsloughdx ...I bought the first 909x from a audio store here in NZ..it was faulty so he told me to send it back to supplier..and gave me info on that which is the Mayo group here in NZ...I still have the 3rd unit..works well but the main tuning dail gave out only 9 days in from new....so the frequency wouldn't change properly when tuning the main dail..... would not change the numbers for frequency up or down..only alittle..I pulled it apart and the contacts are weak and very small....2 falk like arms that run around a copper track...like a record player 1 of the arms had broken off not allowing contact to change frequency reliably

    • @willowsloughdx
      @willowsloughdx Год назад

@@mrjones6770 That metal "contact" is not an electrical contact but a detent spring. It's only function is to provide the detent felt on the tuning wheel. I can't imagine how one of these springs can possibly break with normal use. One detent is felt with each tuning increment. I like the detents on the tuning wheel but some do not. Attempts to remove the tuning wheel and mess with the detent spring usually results in bitter tears for the radio's owner. I only use the tuning wheel for fine adjustments. I've seen users furiously cranking and cranking these wheels not knowing that there are much easier ways to cover a lot of frequency bandwidth when tuning the 909x or 909X2. The tuning wheel turns an optical encoder to change the frequency, not electrical contacts. If the plastic tuning wheel is misaligned during replacement the encoder can be permanently damaged when using too much force to snap the wheel into place.

I have a Sangean ATS 909x2 and i have no issues with it! It has version 078 Maybe the radio is locked up. There is a reset button underneath the radio for a reason. Try if you can reset it. Maybe you have a beta version of the Sangean 909x

I just got My Sangean and here is my impression and I hope to get your feedback.
First of all Compared to the price of the device, there are two things that seem incredible to me.
This device was supplied to me without the batteries. Know that in France, I paid more than 300 euros
While all the others (tecsun, XHDATA) have their original battery.
Also, I'm surprised that this radio doesn't have a wrist strap that provides security.
    to avoid dropping the radio.
Let's move on to the technical side. In my opinion this radio has very good FM and Air Band reception.
On the other hand, I very much regret that the LW and MW range are affected by a noise that covers the
distant stations. I think that this noise is also caused by the clock block part etc ...
I am very disappointed because I love to capture MW even in the middle of the day and if you have an idea to reduce
    those parasites would be great.
I am also disappointed by the SSB band for the low volume but it was mentioned hundreds
times. This radio has reception problems on the different bands that I mentioned.
It's a shame because I have Firmware 078 and nothing is really superb.
If you have any solutions and opinions for me, thank you for your comments

Sorry to hear that you also are having problems... it's a Great looking radio..but that is as far as it goes...its poorly made and poorly designed.....my 3rd unit was the best of the 3 that I had in 1 month...but then the tuning wheel stopped working..so can only tune using up and down buttons ...this radii it's $800nz... nothing cheap at all...and all you get is great FM performance..thats it...3 in 1 month tells you something.... it's a real shame because it's a good looking radio..
