Based on where I’m at right now in my career, things like social media, marketing, booking gigs and so on are things I’ve had to learn to do myself. Some of it I’ve even learned to enjoy like editing videos and coming up with creative marketing strategies!
However, finding a team of musicians to work with who both believe in what my mission is with my music is the biggest struggle at this point. It’s actually been extremely discouraging to work with people who don’t want to help contribute to my vision of how my music can contribute to people’s lives and not just to our wallets.

My band has been together for over 11 years now, and we hold a very dedicated following in our area. We all bring different strengths to the table, but none of us are good at booking or marketing. Our online presence is lacking.
I take calls, and we stay booked that way, but mostly in our little region.
My husband and I will travel a little further as a duo, and I also go solo sometimes and a band willbe provided.
I really wanting to expand our listening audience so that we could go as a band. Without good marketing and an agent it seems impossible.

Yes, Elon Musk is a genius.
However, it's impossible to go ahead without other creative minds in your team.

when I booked my first show that is my show it was booked out of luck. I did it by myself I started building the show and the team of the show after the show was booked. Its a small show but its a start, and the performers said before the show can we do more shows with you. I know what you mean about getting started. Right now I have 3 performers that are working for me in the show. When I started putting the show together I was not ready for them to come to me and go will this music work for the show. That is an eye opener. The shows that I have done before were run by someone else. To be the one who is running a show is more than just showing up and performing. Being the one in charge means you have to say yes or no to everything to do with a show. If I had not ben in the business for years and learned how to put things together I would be lost. When its all said and done the show will be good or bad based how I run the show. There is a saying that is true "Shit rolls up hill" the success of the show is the job of the one running the show. I just had a meeting with the artist that will perform that night and thats were it all just sank in that I am in charge. They started asking me will this work for the show that you are doing. It is something you need to know if you are running a show anything goes wrong that is on the person running a show all bad things that happen are on you as the leader. when its all said and done I take the good and the bad when the show goes on the stage.

There's so much you can learn and learn to do ourselves, but sometimes you just have to call it: should I spend hours/days struggling with this? Or should I consider this as part of my investment in my project and just pay a little bit to get it DONE? I do what I can, because hell, there's lots you can do well yourself for free. But sometimes I'm like, "Nah, give this to an expert."

How to work with a promoter for other artists and create content & build websites for them. 3. Learned how to take another artist's vocal track and create an arrangement that represents their style & sound of music. ~:~

A Catch 22 (often self-made) about management is that we musicians often hate the dirty _business_ of the Music Business; we want to make money, but we hate chasing it. This creates a second Catch 22. We realize a manager would be better suited to that but (A) as you say, professional managers only want to work with an already viable "product", while (B) getting gigs so we can _be_ economically viable is why we _need_ a manager. Of course, that's where your fabulous videos come in. It's much easier for a manager to come in and build the brand if the artist has already laid the foundation.
As for working as a team, I'm in a three-piece band. Our drummer is also our primary booking/marketing manager; we're all free to shag offers whenever they come our way, but he's the main _hunter/gatherer._ I'm the primary sound engineer and producer; everybody has a say in tailoring our sound, but I'm primarily the one to make it happen. Our guitar player, is our main musical director; well all bring projects to the table and add our two cents, but she takes lead on arrangement ideas. We all specialize within the team, but we also _all_ help with _all_ the jobs that need attention. In _each_ of the last two years, we played more payed gigs than in the previous three put together...largely because we _stopped_ relying on a Manager, who only took care of us as a "side job". She is a great person, but we all finally realized...great intentions aside...she didn't have the time to commit. Rather than wait for who to do what _she_ could, we decided to do what _we_ could...and the difference has been remarkable.

This couldn't be better timing on the subject. In the last couple of weeks, I've joined an artist owned indie label. The internal structure of this label is that we trade our skills in place of the usual label business model. The label owner is an excellent producer. Being that I still have some refinement I am lacking in my own production skills, he's great for bringing my music the last 5-10%. In exchange, I have video and graphic arts skills, so I make videos for the label owner's music, as well as mine and the other artists on the label. This guys who signed me was very selective because he's had a good amount of success on his own, but he did things like have those who submitted their music fill out a questionnaire, kept tabs on the artists' social media posts and practices. No doubt he was thinking much like what you've talked about in this video, which lead to only three out of a whole mess of submissions being considered for signing. This is also what I've considered when bringing on people for a live lineup and for support at gigs. It's important to keep a small inner circle and still be willing to do a lot yourself because you are your brand and you are your music, and it ceases to be so when the wrong people come in to mess you up on that.

    Hi Adam,
About 5 years ago I ended a partnership that yielded a ton of music for a band & film projects. Being relatively new to the publishing/copy-write side of things I eventually realized that my partner had been registering all of our music in his own name…There were some projects that he hadn’t written any of the music for at all, yet he registered it ALL in his name. I finally got things ironed out & started my own Publishing/Production business. It’s called Lonely Sea Productions…It’s kind of a tongue in cheek name because every time I’ve managed to get a crew together they all jump ship when they realized that making music for a living is hard work.

Do you know about the Nash Equilibrium Adam. I use it as a tool to give people an incentive to do join my team/ family/ whatever you call your fan base.

Ive been making rap music since 4 years....but suddenly stopped it because my laptop broke down and I stopped releasing....reality is harsh I realized.then i started watching your videos and started preparing myself and now im in the midst of releasing my ep but the problem is all these 2 years i have wasted my time and understanding the value of organically growing to be heard as an artist globally is possible but the power lies within me.....would love to hear some tips Adam

1st off i hate leaving comments but i feel the need to share today.
I been doing music for almost 12 years now. I join a team back 2014 or 2015. I love it but everyone on that team didn't put in the work. The line with me was when I found out that someone on the team was taking money without sending the artist i work with the beat.I started over time and time again after that. Middle last year i got me a new laptop and I'm starting over again. @Adamlvy I been watching your videos and slowly using what i lean with stuff over leaned over the years. The skills I'm working now is video editing and youtube. I want to put my work out and i know youtube is going to help me a lot once i get a handle on it. Its just me no team. I'm working with a few artists and selling little to no beats online. My soundcloud, Facebook and etc.. is starting to grow. And its just me at the moment. I would love one or two people to help me out but It also feel great knowing that anything i put out going to be the best i can make it. No one else can mess it up or hold it back from what it could be. Keep Grinding everyone. If this what you want to do then make it happen with your our hands.

I feel like coming up by yourself can be very lonely and contribute to poor mental health and not realizing you've even passed certain goals. I think people on your team need to be serious about it obviously, but homeboys you really care about that you can talk business with, and smoke weed with when you all just need to unwind is important and part of a connection a team needs to have. There has to be a feeling of having something to work for, for everyone involved. I feel like you're a lot more likely to get scammed when your successful and alone and vulnerable at the top then by the homies who helped you get there.

Audio recording, video editing, and picture taking. Audio recording I don't mind, but video editing and the picture/video thing I find boring as hell. But somebody's gotta do it!
