One detail I think is really cool is that the game ends with the destruction of Southtown, the single most important location in the SNK verse. It being destroyed is basically SNK tearing down the set at the end of the play. 2003, the first KOF game made after the old guard formed Playmore and got back all their old IPs, ends with Southtown being rebuilt.
@@defo8811 Most SNK (and also Capcom) employees are now working at: -Arc System Works -Arika -DIMPS -Examu The current SNK has little to do with the original, except for some important people like Oda (the current producer of KOF, SS and SNK Heroines, who previously worked as one of the main creatives behind the Fatal Fury series).
The KOF '00 soundtrack is amazing for his melancholy. It was the last game to be produced by the old SNK, so they make it in a way that you can listen to the sadness on every song, like it was saying goodbye to everyone.

The stage: (Camera faces towards Kula, who is falling headfirst towards Earth) Kula: If this goes on...we'll all die for sure. (Kula's sister Candy grabs her and holds onto her, falling with Kula) Kula:...Candy?! (Camera pans above, shows the two falling very fast towards Earth, the fades to black for a bit as Candy sacrifices herself, saving Kula's life) Kula: What means "friend"? Diana/Foxy: Friends are people who cannot be replaced. Give her a hug.
In the ending we see Heidern talking in a sad way about the events that happened before, I believe the default ending somehow mirrors the situation of SNK at that time, "All I know for sure is, we creamed big time" was a memorable line said by Heidern during the ending, in case you didn't know Heidern was modeled after Eikishi Kawasaki the owner of SNK and even in The Ikari game Ralf and Clark's superior officer is called General Kawasaki.
The end of a truly special era... Not to insinuate the future was all doom and gloom after OG SNK disbanded, but there was a certain kind of magic and care that was lost in the transition.
Agree with you, but it was not just the case of SNK, but many other companies. Videogames, movies... have lost "something" with so much modernization and superficiality typical of the present era (mainly from the second half of the 2000s onward). Wishing some genius creates the time machine, to be honest.
KoF 2000: the Old SNK'S Last Stand. They KNEW that they were going to die so they thought "Let the Fans Have a KoF to Rember us by." And that they did. If only the Old SNK was still alive. Then we wouldn't had to deal with the Mess that is KoF 2001.
RRaccoon99 At least 2002, X, XI, XIII, and XIV still stand strong. The only KOF titles that weren't good were 2001(the game isn't even canon, they had to write novels instead.) and XII(XII was literally a beta for XIII, but XI didn't exactly hold up)
KOF XIV is very good, and the main staff members who worked in Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting gathered again to make the game. The classic SNK is not dead.
It's so amazing. The last games from the true SNK: KOF2000, Garou and Last Blade 2 are their masterpieces: their heritage and we, the gamers, we'll always miss them and all the passion they put in their games
