    I just applied to be a bather. I really hope I get in! I've been working IT for the past 4 years and it's soul sucking work. I want to change to a more meaningful job and working with animals has always been a dream of mine! Fingers crossed that I make it!! 🤞🤞

      @@frankiepurcell1521 honestly just go into the grooming salon! that’s what people have done in my salon and have had great success :) because even if that specific salon doesn’t need a groomer/ bather, they can refer you to other petsmart salons if there’s multiple near you

    I took my golden retriever to get groomed at petsmart and he came out looking awesome. The girl who did him was super nice with him. I will definitely take him back again.

    I started at PetSmart about 4 years ago as a seasonal cashier for the holidays. I was hired on and moved into pet care about 3 years ago. I am going to be a bather now and go to Academy! I can't wait!

      @@ellamcnulty4243 Just because a few locations are bad doesn't mean they all are. Im a bather at PetSmart, and all our Groomer's are very highly rated, we are always completely booked due to all the recommendations.

    Ever since I was young I have been helping my mom bathe Persians and I'm super excited to finally make this a career. I just finished online school for grooming and as soon as I get my certification for it I'm moving to PetSmart to further my career!
    The only question I really have is do you get stuck with being a bather if you want or will they get you into the styling school either way?

      @@xxharuchan hi! It’s going good! I finished my hands on and I am 42 dogs out of 200 of my grooming trainee portion, my salon leader and coworkers are very pleased with my progress!

    I have an interview for a bather position on the 1st! I've wanted to work with animals since I was old enough to talk according to my mom and for the last 6 years being a pet groomer has been my dream job. I'm insanely excited and pray i get this job 🙏🙏

      @@terrianrogers4266 Some Petsmarts do cats. Mine does. But the appointments are fewer and far between it seems as they have cat groomers who are fewer than dog groomers. I just booked one of my cats for a bath and full hair cut.

    My instructor showed up late and poked her phone a lot. She also ripped my clipper right out of my hand mid shaving a dog's stomach that she got mad at me for being upset she could of caused an injury.
    Regardless, I did learn how go groom and moved on.

    Does doing any of these programs enable you to work as a pet groomer or do you need to do a college program under ontario law? Thanks to anyone with answers!

      Our academy-trained stylists complete over 800 hours of hands-on instruction and safety certification, working with at least 200 dogs of all breeds and sizes. Because we pride ourselves on having the highest safety standards in the industry, PetSmart requires every salon associate to be safety certified annually. This is all done through PetSmart!

    After you graduate the academy do you have to stay with petsmart? I was told it's a 2 year commit but I'm reading 7 years in some places. I have a interview in a few days for ps.

    There’s a girl in my salon who has gotten multiple aggression complaints even as a bather before she became a groomer at Petsmart they keep her and do nothing about it. Another girl who ended up quitting was similar now some dogs after they go to her won’t even let them us even pet them when they come back... she also had complaints, nothing was done.

    If you want to learn from PetSmart/Petco find the best groomers in your area, you are going to learn mostly from the people at your home store. Not at the “school”

      The school is only the beginning, they get you comfortable with the basics. How to hold the clippers, understanding different haircuts etc when you get back your paired up with your salon leader and work beside them and learn from them.

    I was told it does NOT take a year. I was told in Nova SCOTIA that I bathe 200 dogs then go to an academy for 2 WEEKS?? I went on indeed employee reviews for Canada and it was 3/5 stars for overall positive work environment. "Poor managment" comments across the board. I'm now thinking I'll just get my training some where else.

      Afrodita I talked to one of the pet stylist managers and basically she said that Petsmart will send you to the school for free if they feel you are ready and that once you become a “professional stylist”, you get 50% commission and that her people make about 1,000 a week

    Well yall did really bad on instructing your prior Student Savanah at the petsmart location at Fairmont at Pasadena. She could not handle my yorkie. My experience was a terrible one after three times

    I’m sorry, what dog school requires you to learn how to bathe a dog for 3 months?!?!? 🤣

      You realize there a lot of things that go into bathing a dog, yeah? Eye wash, making sure you use a shampoo that will benefit the dog and their coat, every bath comes with nail clipping or grinding, ear cleaning, paw pad shaving, sanitary trim, anal gland expression, not to mention being dried with a velocity dryer and all of the specifics that go into each one regarding how to handle the animal, observe since of stress and signs of critical stress, and doing everything with extreme caution and very specific guidelines.

      Also you have to be able to do a number of dogs in your shift. Typically around 9 dogs in a 8 hour shift. Some dogs don’t like to be groomed it makes it quite difficult and as sparky said you need to be able to do all of those things and know how to do sanitary shaves and paws.
