You are a great teacher, thanks for the tips.
+Odair Morales thank you for your kind words Odair :-)
very helpful, thanks
Thanks, brother. My technique is still that of someone who's been playing 3 weeks, but I think that the problem IS the harp. I hate to think of sanding my harp, but I may have to. It cost too much to just not use lol
BTW, it's a Suzuki Promaster. The keys that work sound bright and beautiful. Really quite nice. But for the lower notes, particularly 2D and 3D, I have to draw for a couple of seconds before the tone sounds. It's like I have to draw enough air to make a seal before it will "engage"
Thank you for these tips, it will really help me to play better as I am just a beginner for this instrument, I have one question, why my lips get dried when I play it for long time
I get this when trying to double bend the 2 draw and the triple bend on the 3 draw. Always suspected my mouth shape. Thank you!
thanks for the tips.....waiting for the next one.....
Excellent :-)
Thank you for this vid, Tomlin! Question: If I have a Blues Harp that's leaky, can I take the comb out and replace it with the comb in my Mani, which I don't play because it's too hard for me to play?
I've been getting this particularly on the 3 draw bending down a whole step. I seem to have developed this just recently while working on my throat vibrato, which I find very difficult to do on that bend. Any tips?
Got to the end, where you told us about a link for info on custom combs. Clicked the link and ran into a problem; it's been marked private. Unfortunate that.
Tomlin, I just started playing not long ago and my problem is that my mouth hurts :P !! I have problems keeping the strength up in my lips, it feels like my lip muscles are getting cramps! Is that normal?!
Hiya - that is totally normal - you need to build up the strength which takes time. Do not worry :-)
Thanks for answering, that's really good to know :) !!
Where’s the answer? My lip muscles get tired too :(
Hey Tomlin, what about the "putting the tongue to one side of the mouth technique" You know what I am referring to ? I see it in a lot of beginner books.
Gene Ruffalo That is tongue blocking technique, you can find some tutorial about it on RUclips. Hope this help
hello! I recently purchased a harmonica and I saw a video where you said you should start with the basics, but I don't know anything at all about the basics. how do I grab it? how do I place my lips?
Do you have a video where I can see the absolute basic?
thank you.
+Cassia Prior hi Cassia, if you got to my website www.tomlinharmonicalessons.com there is a free course for complete beginners
Please answer this, Tomlin: If it's not my technique (I've been playing for 15 years) and the harp is old, is it usually the wood or the gapping?
I have a marine band 1896 in C
I think my air pressure and mouth shape are decent, since I could get the 2 draw properly
But the low bends seem to be airy now, especially on the 3draw.
Is that normal or my harmonica is leaky?
I have a really cheap Harmonica made of plastic with no brand.
The hole 2 it's extremely airy, so I guess I have to open it and push the "small metals" closer? 7:20
Well, 4 months is a while, still: If you're relatively new to this, AND this is a harmonica in the key of C we're talking about, AND the problem is on the 2 hole draw, then it could be that you havent learnt how to play that hole properly. It's a tough to nail at first, and it seems it's a very common problem (ruclips.net/video/QTzyM-mq7Qc/видео.html ,you can even google it and find a sh*t ton of articles on it, i know i did). In said case, try to practise it more, otherwise... i dunno, not really my place to say.
