@nickcarroll8565 they taste exactly like chicken eggs, but bigger. They only lay durring certain times of the year though, while chickens lay all year round
My serama hens for some reason love to go broody together in one nesting box. I’ll have 7 or 8 of these smooshy adorable broodies all making the same noises in a chorus. I adore it!
I played this out loud and my 4 hens couldn’t care less. But my rather young Rooster did get flappy and come running to investigate. Good to know at least somebody was concerned LOL
Some of the craziest encounters of my life have been broody hens. We have a few who seem to go broody constantly, some of them so stubborn that theyll sit there for upwards of two months despite our best efforts to break the brood. Those ladies are nuts. Ive had hens get so upset at me taking the eggs away that they chase and attack me. Of course theyre also the ones who are horrendous mothers so we cant let them have the babies they want 🙄
Those birds dont care about the eggs, we have hens that actively break and eat those eggs right in front of us just to stop us from messing with them lol. @@winzyl9546
I had a muscovy duck that constantly went broody on me. She wasn't an awful mom, but not a great one. The problem with scovys is that they spend all their time on the nest. Their condition deteriorates when sitting. She was so neurotic that when I took her eggs she just found round things to sit on: a golf ball, baby nail clippers with the bulb, etc. I finally scoured the internet and someone said the only thing that broke her scovy's brood was to douse her and her nest with a bucket of water. It just felt so mean. But I was desperate, so I braved the talons they have, took her "eggs," and dumped about a gallon of water over her. She indignantly flew off, was missing at dinner, and was her normal sweet-girl self for breakfast the next morning! Next time she went broody, I let her hatch them. That time, however, I moved them, mother and all, to a broody box when they hatched. That went a lot better than her last attempts at motherhood. The time after, she got a bucket of water. She needed help with work-life balance. ❤ This was a duck (years ago now), I don't know anything about breaking chickens of their broodiness. Dumping water on a water bird seems less mean than dumping water on a chicken, so I'm not trying to tell anyone to do that! 😮
I raise chickens myself, and have for about 3 years now and counting. And for those of you who wonder why she took her out of her nest, broody hens are extremely devoted girls, they only get off their nests once a day while broody to eat, drink, and poop, then they go right back onto the nest, obviously over time this can take a toll on a hens health, and for her own health and safety we farmers have to remove them off their nests so they can remain healthy. Also,no hens don’t get sad or upset when their eggs are taken,as a matter of fact,it doesn’t bother them at all.
