  • Took the Eddyline Sandpiper 130 out with a recording rig I slapped together with a new pair of matched cardioid mics and some camera parts. I know very little about field recording and I'll need to experiment a little more with mic placement and angles. The GoPro Hero11 Black was on a separate boom from the audio equipment and it was flexing a little too much. I've since combined audio and video into a single rig and mounted the GoPro on a rigid boom. That should help reduce the shaky appearance of the bow of the kayak. I'm open to any suggestions on how I can improve the quality of these uploads.
Camera Settings: 5.3k 60fps, flat color, 10-Bit, high bit rate, low sharpness, wide, HyperSmooth, and EV 0.
SE8 Cardioid (Matched Pair), Zoom F3, Rycote BBG/Windjammer, Smallrig VB99

Wow. The sounds are wonderful, pretty much just the paddle in the water and birds. How is you seem to be the only one on the water? This place is so appealing, I tried to locate this reservoir. It must be in the south given the surrounding hills. I watched twice and tried to follow along on the map. First I thought Gunlock. It has a road on one side and trees out in the water. It's a bit too remote for a Fedex truck to drive past. Then I thought Quail Creek. It also has a road on one side and is more likely to have trucks passing. Both of these are heavy with trees where the rivers feed in. Still I can't say for sure. There are missing landmarks that show on the satelite maps.
Maybe you should keep it secret! This time of year I never even hear my paddles over the sound from the crowded beaches.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm typically the first on the water and try to stick to weekdays. I'll stay out until the boat wake starts coming up over the bow!
