Hi Dave from the uk. Greg here age 77. Just had my fourth C op....but looking ok. You taught me all I know about setting up and maintaining guitars...unfortunately I don't know everything...so you will need to post a few more vids. Stay safe.
Even though some of these show up with problems it's almost scary how good 300 dollar guitars from China have gotten. If you find the right shop and pay a little more around 400 to 500 you get usually an amazing guitar for that money. It was CNC machining that made that possible.
Shipping pallets, lol! I have one of these, minus the headstock deceptions. Did my best, ditched the gold, tuxedo'd it, bell brass bridge, aluminum stopbar, Epiphone pickups with some slight corrective pickup surgey, got the DeLisle switch, shoulda got the Kingtone Duet switch. My neighbor loves it, lol! For real. Me too, more or less.
I don’t think that’s Chinese…..maybe North Korea? Or Goochville? Those blue things are called couplets. Multiple discrete devices in one package. Great video Captain!

@@rodnyg7952 I have several Harley Bentons and they are amazing. I got one of their Les Paul copies for 100 bucks of Ebay and have several original Fenders etc. and can assure you that these guitars are way better than they have any right to be. I had some of the archtops with some minor defects but since I live in Germany I could send them back and would also get my money back. Service was ercellent and I own several of them. 10 years ago they had severe issues witht QC but since CNC machining also got better and more affordable so did their guitars. They truly are impressive for the price. Haven't tried their more expensive mid-range price (400 - 500 bucks) line-up but from what I've heard they are truly outstanding in the bang for buck category.

@@stringlocker Not just maybe. I have several Harley Bentons. Some models still have QC problems but most of them even the 150 dollar ones are of a quality that some 500 dollar guitars don't have. It is really something. CNC machines really gave us the opportunity to mass produce guitars like that. I still remember when even 400 dollar guitars were probably garbage since you couldn't produce something of quality by hand.
He has a friend or neighbor or something he’s doing these for as a favor. I remember how bad that Ace Frinkley was. I was kinda shocked that he’s been doing it again too, until I watched the vids, and he explained why.
It's supposed to be a Varitone Selector. Basically, each position picks up different center frequencies. Sort of like having a different EQ at each position, giving the guitar unique different tones.
@SgtSteel1: On a real Lucille it it a six-position rotary switch from Gibson (most notably) that is wired through various capacitors and resistors to, essentially, scoop or boost different frequencies. Mostly effected is the mids-balance one way or the other and some manipulation of the lows, although position 1 is just straight through with no alteration at all. (Here's the nerdy stuff: Position 1: Bypass, Position 2: 5db-1950Hz, Position 3: 12db at 1100Hz, Position 4: 16db at 620Hz, Position 5: 18.5db at 360Hz, Position 6: 21db at 120HZ.)
Robert Baker and Tom Bucovac were just today talking about different equalization to suit playing situations. Tom explained his experience really well. These Varitones (when they work 🤨) predated the portable stomp equalizers, makes me wonder if they had a similar intention of getting the equalization better matched to a situation.
Best looking piece of plywood I’ve ever seen.
I think it’s time for an intervention for Charlie. All he buys is Chibsons.
The thrill is gone...
It was NEVER there...
I'm free free now baby. I'm free from your spell.

All the best to you man. And I hope Dave's okay too. Seem impolite to ask here but all the best to you both.
Jeez Dave. That thumbnail looks like a picture of my chest after I had a heart bypass 😆✌️
We all like you, the best
I love the chibby videos you do i learn alot
That's some quality craftsmanship right there 😂

@@EbonyPope Yeah, I’ve bought some great cheap imports. This particular one doesn’t seem too hot, but it stands a chance now that Dave fixed it up.
LOVE THE SHIRT! STEVE DAHL & GARY MYERS!!!
Chibson, the gift that keeps giving!🤣
That Chibson is a GSO!
Just one wire to a switch is usually a bad sign.
Chinese would have to charge twice as much to make that switch actually do something. They know cost cutting!
Many broken wires!Dave!lol!
Hashing out veritone switch wiring could be a pain. I do remember seeing a guy put that flavor of thing in a pedal enclosure a while back.
Yay! A new vid. I’m gonna hunker down with a coffee and some smokes and be entertained
great job Dave!
Very good job Dave!

My younger brother bought a Chinese Rickenbacker 12 string, he swears it is nice and everything works. I had me doubts matey!
Oh it’s raining there Dave? It’s hot as balls here in the Sacramento valley in California. I’m so jealous.. I can’t wait for the fall already.
The second funniest thing about those Chibsons - 14 lb Les Paul
They added the chicken head because the chicks dig it 😂🎸
Come visit Sunny Saskatoon Saskatchewan. You can drive across our Gordie Howe Bridge all you want. 😂
🍿
Look at it this way - the chicken head makes a handy kill switch if you're using a clip-on tuner.
Hey David is the best , no two ways about it , if you want to get repair right call him👁️👁️🎸🎵🎶👀😁

well at least its set up and plays and makes sounds with the pickup selector. good job Dave. chicken head is insanity
The chicken head looks like it’s supposed to be a veritone.
Edit: I posted too soon. Lol
I had a weak moment some years back and picked up a Chibson LP Gold Top. One Chibson is one too many.
In my carrer Stuff made in Asia tend to use JHS hardware.

you might get an amazing looking guitar from a certain distance, but nothing much beyond that
@@rodnyg7952 You never buy them so how do you know ?
@@malcolmhardwick4258 right, I'd never spend any money on them, but I have repaired, setup & changed hardware in quite a few for clients since 2010

Hi Dave.
Gordie Howe = Legend > thanks Dave
Dave they are advertising weed on your videos
I know you would want to know
also why the Les Paul cover on the truss rod opening?
That might be the first time I've seen a control cavity that looks like it was spoon routed. All that @#$& around the rotary head switch.
Hey Dave any pointers on re-stringing a guitar ?
Wall art.
Chibsons!!!!!!!
Those Chibsons give me a chubson.
Might as just put an arcade button in there/Killswitch.
Dave!!Your it!!Tag
You're.
@AHoundOnAHonda
Now that makes me wonder 🤔
Might he have meant Dave's, uhhh, It? Whatever an It may be. Maybe his fret file.
@@Riverdeepnwide You never know. Hey Dave! Do you own an It? 😄
The control cavity looked like crap!
Chibsons even copy the broken necks, but this kind was the chicken-head. C'mon, guys. Break Authentic!
But.... blood pressure is normal... well done
Thanks, i still think uou like the Jizbons better than the Ricks.
Wall hanger
your thumps up button is missing :(
How much do these "instruments" go for retail? Seems to be a lot of work for crud workmanship.
they retail for whatever producers can get to maximize profits. They cost about 30$ to 60$ to make depending on who makes it
Damn Dave, A few years ago you said that you would NEVER work on another Chibson. Now you've done several recently . Why the change of heart?

So, what's the point of buying a chinese illegal copy if Epiphone already do copies, but only way better?

Why does Charlie buy these pieces of crap.?
