Pop filters are crucial to recording vocals, but - is it weird that I actually like the unfiltered sample in that particular example? Makes the whole mix sound more garage-like, which I kinda like in punk records.
Hey I bought the studio edition today and I am very indecisive about which one to use, do you recommend the foam as the best? Even for rap/heavy vocals
Before I bought myself a pop filter we used to stretch socks over a coat hanger and use that for plosive reduction. Looked really stupid but it worked.
Incredible midrange clarity and a cool tweeter! I feel very lucky to run Focal Twin6be's. (hobby hack with a decent job.) My endorsement carries the weight of a windborne feather but check out some Focals if they ever fall into an equilateral triangle before your mix desk of doom.
Great video Fluff, I'd not really considered how important a pop filter is. No way I'm affording one of those, as good as they are. Any tips for us bedroom recording peeps who want a cheap alternative?
Simon Burford There are probably guides online for making one out of womens nylon tights and a couple other bits of junk. I've heard of people doing this. Can't point you to any links though as I don't know any. Worth searching how to make your own pop filter though.
Hey fluff, I would like to start experimenting and learning outboard gear. I'm used to relying on plug-in compressors, but I want to buy an actual physical one. What would you recommend? Thanks!
Jamal Spradlin I'm not Fluff, but well... I've heard dbx stuff is pretty good. Also found the Joe Meek stuff recently, and considering how insane their plug-in equivalents are, can't imagine the real deal. Noticed Fluff was using Warm Audio stuff as well, which also seem really good. Of course, you can never go wrong with Distressors and LA-2A's and the like, but that's a bit higher on the range.
I watched video because I like little nerd intricacies. Hoping for like minded people going hey thats neat in the comments section, and everyone is too concerned about monies.
Doesn't it kinda defeat the purpose of having a pop filter if you're shoving your nose into it when you sing? I thought you needed to be a couple inches away for it to do its job.
take 2 seconds and think before you post you know that there is regulations about if he is getting paid, not about if he isn't and if he isn't he doesn't gotta tell us shit and for the fact that he didn't say it was a ad, i'm pretty sure he didn't get paid to say anything, so learn from this read the entire rule book before talking and you'll sound less dumb.
Ryan Bruce I think it's kind of a complement to you. We value your opinion and just want to be reassured that it IS actually your opinion being presented. Anyway, nice side-by-side comparison and overall video editing.
cmon man if it really bothers you that much just put a small notation at the start along the lines of "review unit provided by manufacturer" , i have seen it on other channels
Can this get rid of pop music?
Why would you want that
Why wouldnt you want that
Hurrdurr pop bad
because i like pop music? Why are people not allowed to like what they want?
huh makes sense
but people are also allowed to dislike what they want
I definitely need to get a better pop filter. But I rarely record vocals so I'll probably get that down to road a bit.

then use the one without the filter as a double, might get that character in the mix
The coathanger-leotard thing speaks to me. I definitely have used a thin fabric poster in desperation once.
Another pro tip: attach the pop filter to a separate stand so if they bump it, it won't rattle the mic and ruin a take!
excellent tip. That's what I do!

Anyone notice how fluff talking one by one words and its really clear and satisfying?. lol
Fluf - quick question: why did you choose a WA 76, not sa-76 compressor? Is WARM compressor better than Stam?
Hey Fluff, should i buy close back or open back cab
Powerful passive plosive purifier
As someone who works with sE Electronics, I enjoy their pop filters but I recognize that the PopAudio one is a ton better, will try and get one.

Cry once... Hey Fluff you keeping those A7X's as your new primaries?

you're the man! im not sure if i can get this in New Zealand but man ill pay whatever for that! it looks bloody high quality!
Keep being awesome, Fluff!!!
what mic is better for vocals? rode nt1-a or at2020/2035?
Cool filter, but I wanna know more about Phantom Racer. That snippet was rad
Hey Fluff... I have the same incense burner but in black \m/
The fabric version sounds the most transparent. The metal one has a ring to it, and the foam deadens the sound.
Is this company still selling them or have they gone under? Any alternatives if they aren't around?
So it works as a de-esser as well, didn't know that. Thought these were mostly for protecting mic from spit :) Live and learn
The new tony hawk soundtrack sounds great!
Studio = Controlled environment. I like it :)
You should do a comparison of all 3 filters
Why did the pop filter demo have less p words than the non pop filter. Can you do it with the same words? Seems unfair
awesome red seas fire shirt
Fluff, I was about to say that $50 pop filter looks identical to my cheapie one when you mentioned ... super cheap ones on ebay.
how has no one mentioned how much the singer sounds like Weird Al? Makes it sound like a parody.
Sounds like the guy from Bowling for Soup
Fluff, sing over one of your tracks. We need this, you've elaborated on this topic now, time to stand up an do some vocals!
Pop filters very important
Oooooweee, Rick!
Did i just hear a Sum 41 Cover?...
Dat Red Seas Fire shirt doe.
Cheaper alternative: write lyrics without using the letters P, F, S, D or T. Thank me later
hey fluff, if you really are going to throw the old pop filter away, i would like to have it if possible. i would happily pay for shipping :)
Yep there's a difference
2:53
The no pop filter sample had much more words with P in them. Not fair.
There is no way that Shitty clamp holds better than the one with the bolt you tighten

Hi
I put one of my socks on the mic 😅
"Never rock the mic with the pantyhose" -Adam Yauch
From what I understand, air movement IS sound
"Its about air movement, its not about sound"
Kinda funny
Hey Fluff, no offense at all! Just had to smile a bit. I absolutely got what you meant.
Cheers from Germany
Man, he's a s**t hot vocalist

Da phuk?
Did this company give you discounts, free gear or money? I'm pretty sure the FTC regulations require you to disclose that.

Most of these reviewers have to send the gear back and are not paid so they are not in violation.
Ryan Bruce you're so prickly today. Where's the Fluff?

Cheap alternative: sing off axis.
