I remember when Black Mesa was first released as a mod, this was the menu theme. First time I ever booted the game up, it felt like this song was saying "Just let go, because you're about to go for one hell of a ride". I will never forget that moment. You weren't kidding.
I booted up Black Mesa for the first (serious run) time since the mod release and I was confused when I didn't hear this song on the menu. It's a shame that it's so hidden because it's one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard.
This literally makes me shed tears because this makes me think of all the people dying in the beginning. All your co-workers who were very nice to you and liked you. Just killed....
+Corporal Xander I'm afraid to move and all our phones are out! Please, get to the surface and let someone know were stranded down here! Time is short.
When you reverse it, it's actually just a slower version of the regular Black Mesa theme. And I find that to be amazing. I got chills when I played it reversed.
clubmimo123 Especially when the original writer of the series, Mark Laidlaw just posted the plot for HL 2 Episode 3. I think it's truly dead now. At least we can finally stay calm knowing partially how the story ends. Rest In peace Half Life, you were an outstanding series while you existed.
I mean... there will be still some outstanding remakes of Blue Shift and Opposing Force... But now that the plot is posted. Maybe in future.. there will be something a hope worth keeping.
I mean considering all the events at the resonance cascade caused, thousands of casualties over at black mesa, then the seven hours war and the combine take over it is pretty depressing
This track came out nine years ago, almost a decade. Every night I can't stop thinking about the past and, think to myself “I wish I could appreciate those times while I could”. Thank you for giving sound to Black Mesa Niel
I always imagined Gordon screaming like an idiot after stepping out of the test chamber. 'A-Acc-A-AAAAAccsess- de-denied-de-" *Door opens* "AHHHHHHHHHHH-"
Always thought this song was very fitting in Unforeseen Consequences, it's a shame they replaced it. I will say though that hearing this again reminds me of how the first few months of the COVID Pandemic were. It was terrifying. The streets were empty along with the shelves at the grocery store, and the world felt doomed in my eyes for the first time ever. 2 years later, and we're still recovering from the pandemic. The world changed in those months, and this song really helps me reflect on those events. I am glad that things finally seem to be getting better though.
I was on a wings when I've heard it first time after 3 launch crushes. Felt to tears seeing the tragedy with the scientist reviving the guard. If only it could be so sensitive in HL1...
In my opinion. I feel like this should've been kept for Unforeseen consequences chapter since it gives off a dark like In my opinion. I feel like this should've been used for Unforeseen consequences chapter since it gives off a dark vibe like Space Ocean in the original Half-Life.
I will never get bored of this song, I could listen to it forever.. It has something special about it, something unforgetful. It just makes me imagine something horrible happening, sudden shock and panic.. Yet so beautiful. This music is beautiful and games like these are true art. Not this mindless Kanye West or Chief Keef that mainstream is focused about, but this.. This is special.
Yh they should've gotten Joel Nielson to write most of the music in HL2, would've been so much more emotional rather than upbeat crap that doesn't even fit the game's feel and story.
I wish I could change the music back to this song when you see the Scientist giving the guard CPR, just makes the whole scene walking through it all feel quite tragic and awful
Black Mesa was supposed to secure a future for humanity, only to see that future come to ruin when they created something to wasn't meant to happen. An accident "they said", they didn't know "they said".
Whenever i listen to this, I always imagine Dr. Kleiner looking at his Black Mesa picture frame, thinking of the old and happy days. It even gives him a smirk thinking about it.
you did a phenomenal job with the music in this game. it gave it so much more emotion and i actually felt like crying when i got out of the testing area and saw the scientist performing CPR on the security guard, as well as what was left of the facility. it gave it a sense of "sad calamity".
I agree with it being more dramatic than the original half life. Reasoning: In hindsight, knowing the consequences of the cascade just brings so much more emotion to the table. This soundtrack on top just blows it up so more. Excellent work black mesa team! :)
This song makes you feel in the moment, have empathy for the dying scientists in the collapsing facility In HL1 i felt nothing at all but in Black Mesa, i almost shed a tear This proves that music can make a difference
Its been out for a while now I know, but I just want to say that you did an incredible job with the soundtrack on Black Mesa. Whenever I think of it, my mind always comes back to this track. I always loved the theme that played on the site, and when edited and reversed it turns into this. Sombre and Beautiful. It really adds weight to the first few moments after the disaster, and having already played through Half Life 1, 2 and the episodes, it really drives home the true, devastating impact caused by one ill advised experiment. I love it
absolutely fell in love with this song. it goes incredibly well with the apocalypse-like aftermath during unforseen consequences. The whole soundtrack is really well composed. Man, the guys worked so hard on this game! it's unbelievable. Take that CoD franchise.
Beautiful, this song represents the true Half-life background. Confusion, pain and regret, when you come out of the test chamber seeing all this destruction and death it makes you think how it really would be and just to know years later what's left of the human race, this song is beyond amazing and it suits the whole game perfect. Video games are Art, the songs bring out the emotions fully. Beautiful.
Anything original from anyone is considered art, especially if it makes someone feel emotion on some level. Just because you're a robot doesn't mean that your tastes are final. You must like modern hip-hop and R&B or something, because this is art. It's culture, and if you don't get that, then you're in for a sad life my friend.
The only reason WHY i prefer this over the Current Resonance song from Xen Update... it's very sad this track was replaced, until re get the remixed version only in long Lift section(you have to hold that area while dealing with headcrabs) in Chapter 3: Unforeseen Consequences!
Wow, thanks for the hint. This is actually the Black Mesa theme played with lower notes and simply reversed. I'm still stunned that such a beautiful version can come out of simply playing a song backwards - in fact I couldn't even hear any piano sounds in here although they are played the whole time.
I like the original theme and ending credits released a few years ago they made more they released 6 songs originally on their site that were awesome still got em'
You know, I was thinking Black Mesa would be just HL1 with a prettier world, and a bit of new stuff here and there. Well obviously I thought wrong after playing the first 10 minutes, but this song really set the mood for me, was perfect
Fun fact guys! That poor guard with the scientist over him going "One, two, three... Damn it, breathe." If you throw the computer screen enough times at the scientist it gibs him, and the Guard stands up instantly, and can be recruited as a follower.
Will the lot of you knock it off. First off Aspartan, If you don't like this music then complain elsewhere or listen to something that you do enjoy and the rest of you stop giving him more ammunition to carry on this bloody charade. Again, if you don't like this then go, just go. or you can shut up and let others enjoy this soundtrack. Give Joel a medal by the way for this awe inspiring soundtrack.
