I watched him in Everett last year, I was really impressed with his ability not to waste swings. I knew he had good physical abilities but for a 18 year old his awareness of the strike zone and to fight off borderline pitches and attacking and hitting the ball hard to all fields was impressive. I think he will be in Tacoma around June, and probably a September call up. I really suggest fans go watch him and Colt Emerson. It's the Mariners next wave
He should start the year in AA Arkansas, but the team has a history of letting guys fully complete a level of the minor leagues before getting a promotion. So he's probably going to be in Everett until June or July. I understand not wanting to rush someone and mess up their development, but Cole Young looks like a special player and he (as well as Harry Ford) should be given the opportunity to earn a September call up this year.
@@ScottServais-poet You're telling me if he gets the start in AA and puts up a 120-125 wRC+ while walking as much as he Ks and playing solid defense you wouldn't want to see him on the roster in September possibly playing 3B or 2B if the Urias/Rojas platoon isn't playing amazing? Hell even if they are playing good, I'd still rather get Cole Young up if he's dominating AA, give him 100 ABs or so to see how he manages major league pitching in anticipation of 2025.
@poocrafter2 I think you only bring a guy up to the major leagues if he's truly right on the doorstep. He would have to play so good and look so polished and developed relative to his potential that keeping him down is a waste. Like 2022 Julio. At his young age, it doesn't do a lot of good for his development to give him an extended look and potentially derail him. I get you're hyped but you just don't call a guy up early just to get a better look unless it's the older guys who are running out of time to prove themselves. To flip your hypothetical, if Urias/Rojas were a combined 110 wRC+, would you want to sit them both for 20-30 games during a potential playoff run, for the sake of getting a guy to the big leagues in early 25 instead of at worst 2/3rds through 25?
@poocrafter2 also, why are we even talking about putting him at third? He doesn't profile as a 3rd baseman. You want him at second or short. Unless he randomly flips to a 30 homerun type of guy, we are talking about the wrong position.
@@ScottServais-poet 3B is an option if it's a few times in the final month, but you then also have the option of sliding Polanco to 3B and starting Cole Young at 2B. Also notice I said get him 100 ABs or so. That doesn't mean starting him every day in September and October, that means get him in there 2 or 3 times a week, one as a chance to rest an older guy like Polanco, but also to see what Cole can do. If he's tearing it up in AA I would absolutely like to give him the opportunity to play possibly over Urias/Rojas who have the hypothetical combined 110 wRC+. Why make him try the big leagues for the first time in 2025 when you could have a chance to give him that experience in September, so that heading into 2025 he can feel confident and hit the ground running.

The only way they get called up that early is if something very very wrong happens this year.
