Great video! David Cronenberg is one of my favourite filmmakers too and likewise, I first saw most of his films in my early teens. I would actually rank The Fly and Shivers a little higher personally. Weird side note: I have the same blu ray releases as you. I even have the same imported blu ray release of Dead Zone.
1. Dead Ringers 2. Crash 3. Eastern Promises 4. A History of Violence 5. The Fly 6. Naked Lunch 7. Videodrome 8. Existenz 9. Scanners 10. A Dangerous Method
Would you consider doing a video of your top ten Hammer Horror films? I noticed a few on your 400 best list and an Amicus ranking video so I was interested to see if you've got a best of Hammer list somewhere.
I have to admit, despite being a massive Goldblum fan, I never cared for "The Fly" '86 until I saw it at the Super Monster Fest at the Skyline Drive-In last year...a beautiful, preserved slice of Americana in a wooded Indiana setting. That was the perfect place to experience that film, and now I like it! Funny how associations change perceptions of art. I have an unsettled relationship with Cronenberg films...I really want to love them because I respect how inventive and visceral they are and appreciate what they symbolize. But at the same time, body horror is my least favorite sub-genre of horror. Still, I've seen every Cronenberg flick except "The Brood," because....I just can't. BTW...you're probably excited to hear "The Shrouds" begins shooting this month! The premise sounds interesting...
I envy you that drive-in! I went to a drive-in in Australia and it was great fun. (Unfortunately, the film was that blockbuster with Nicole Kidman and George Clooney...The Interpreter or something.) Glad you fell for The Fly in the end!
The Fly still number 1 for me. Without doubt the saddest film ever made. The Insect Politics scene breaks me every time. Goldblum should have won the oscar for his outstanding work. Cronenberg is an absolute genius who I´ve loved since seeing Shivers at the cinema in 75. Big shout out to Rabid and Eastern Promises too.
@@michaelbartlettfilm Me and my mates still talk about the fact that we were in our 20´s in the 80´s and how lucky we were. A sublime time to be alive. I´d go back there in a second....P.S. I love Die Hard
@@moose6509 Ha, ha! Fair enough. (Don't watch my vid on Beloved Films that Get on my Nerves!) The 80s was my teenagehood. I have huge nostalgia for it too.
this channel is so good
Glad you're enjoying it!

I must admit, I like Hammer but I'm not a massive fan. Don't know if I could rustle up a top ten, really. I prefer Amicus!
@@michaelbartlettfilm Ah, fair enough.
Brilliant analysis as always. Didn't Videodrome have Debbie Harry in it too ? Another good reason to check it out lol !
It certainly did!
