Raf has been cooking this project and it just feels more and more like an official indie game now more so than a small little passion project back from a few years ago. The new tripods look and sound just as terrifying as the OG’s if not more so. Really hope an early access release happens this year. 🤞😩🤞

But that’s alright, this game has way more care put into it as a “tech demo” that you refer to it than games like Suicide Squad or other AAA that lack depth and quality all to make a little extra coin in the greedy corporate pockets. You’ll see. Keep in mind the team is very small primarily one person, so no need to overestimate just because you hold such judgements.
It truly is becoming a better project as the months pass on, if you noticed he didn’t use animation to move the tripods at all, rather they are procedural code, and that will actually benefit player interaction and the gameplay loop performance wise now that he’s using math to code their movements. The tripods have improved, seems like everything else can get touched on and fixed even more. I’m with your excitement man, I get impressed with it each day. It’s getting pretty close.
NGL, iconic as the horns are, I really love the new noise of these things as well. I loved the sound design on the BBC tripods too, brilliant unearthly machine-howling.

You can choose either the 2005 or new tripods in your play through, the new ones with the smoke are more based on the book and original tripods while the 2005 ones have the cooler horn of the 2005 film :).
I understand the smoke being related to HG Wells's tripods but besides that, I don't really see very much taken from the first tripod designs lol. (Although, I could see Raf wanting to make a second DLC for HG Wells's design for the tripods.)

@@npc386 Pretty sure the goal of the main gamemode is to survive 7 days, and there is also and endless mode along with a mode where you play as a tripod.
You can choose between the 2023 design or 2005 design, however the 2023 design is if Paramount throws a fit since they technically own the rights to the 2005 design so should the game get into some legal hot water, they have the 2023 design to fall back on.

At this stage I think he could pitch the game for crowdfunding and get enough money for a small team and get a more fully realized game in a couple years. Like having the buildings be destructible when the tripods shoot at them or walk on them, and better AI for human npc’s.
The only easter egg i noticed in the video was when the player drives the RV to the log cabin, and on one of the windows inside the cabin, you can see two pieces of bread stuck to the window.

While I do like the aliens as actual players aspect of it! I do kind of hope we can have the option to just play it as a survival game with our friends as well. I’d be happy either way because this looks really cool. But I wonder how they’re gonna incorporate players as aliens when there’s also players as the humans surviving day by day. Like do human players playing as aliens just kind of drop in and out as a whole? Because the shooter aspect of it has a lot shorter time sink for those players compared to the survival game aspect! Really interesting to think about though!

Well, the stars of the movies are the tripods, so it makes sense that they'd try to first make them work as perfectly as possible before venturing into other parts.
Mate, I don't know you and don't follow the channel, came here simply becuse I also watched that 1 hour gamplay and I see we are both left speechless, just for a completely different set of reasons XD. Anyway, I stopped here to comment to provide you a simple feedback, your audio is way to low, I can't hear almost anything at 100% volume, and I have a pretty good headset and especially a pretty sensitive hearing...
Everything presented up until this point isn't really anything to write home about. Sure, it has certain aspects that are impressive for an indie title, but that's where it begins and ends. That being, that what's been shown thus far is basically "neat" for a very small group of amateurs, but certainly doesn't break the mold in any sense of the word. Now this isn't meant to detract from what's been shown thus far, but I think people need to have realistic expectations about what this game will be, both visually and game-play wise. On the technical side, and as a developer myself, it's rife with low-res textures, lots and lots of store assets, and complete lack of proper lighting like GI, StI, LuiM and other ambient sources. The demo also has all of the tell-tale signs of texture streaming issues, absence of proper anims with store bought ones featured instead, a UE store bought inventory (GUI) system, and what appears to be an oddly pro-gen'd/HC terrain. The worst part for me is that they haven't properly initialized terrain render distances via LoD (actual programming) and are instead using the default settings. This tells me, after all of the videos they've released, that they have absolutely no idea WTF they're doing.
Please, do reach out and send them an offer to join their team, seeing as you have all the fixes and work ethic at your disposal. If we could have fewer people running their mouths and actually doing work, we could probably have an industry that makes good games again.
