    Absolutely love Serenity Bay. We’ve been to Castaway Cay 3 times and each time we spent our time at Serenity Bay, the last time we rented a cabana and went with our 2 adult kids. It was peaceful, calm and quiet, just what we were looking for. We got away from the hustle and bustle of kids and families. We snorkeled and used the tubes, laid in hammocks and sipped lots of good drinks. The food was really good and the music was fun. We had books with us and our iPods, and when we got a little sleepy we took a nap, you can’t nap at the family beach. All in all, Castaway Cay has something for everyone and that’s why it’s perfect.

    I was on the Wonder for the Panama Canal cruise in February. There were only 200 kids onboard so the family beach was completely empty. It was our first cruise so we checked out SB and it was packed. I really don’t see the big draw! I’d gladly hang on the family beach.

    • @DisneyCruisers

      That is something I have never thought about before! What if all of the kids were in scuttles cove... I wonder how that would change the dynamic of castaway.

    LOL! The reasons you do not like it are the reasons I love it! We just got home from a 5 night cruise yesterday, our day at Serenity Bay was literally the best day! We do not have kids, I am a Disney girl through and through and love cruising with Disney that being said to get away from the noise and hustle and bustle and just be able to sit on the quiet beach and relax is what I look forward too. When I'm having a bad day at work it's my happy place that I think of. I can understand your opinion and think that it's great that you have a choice of where you want to go on the island :)

    • @DisneyCruisers
      @DisneyCruisers  5 лет назад +1

      Yes I am def glad there are so many areas where people can spread out and not all be right up on each other. Castaway is just simply the best!

    My first cruise in 2007 was our Honeymoon, and the night before we got to Castaway a hurricane hit it and we had to divert to Nassau. Then life happened and we didn’t cruise again for 8 years until we took our 4 year old daughter. I checked out Serenity bay but we didn’t stay long because part of being on the cruise for us is spending time with our daughter (before she gets to the age where we embarrass her) so we went back to the family side and stayed there. I especially love the snorkel adventure, and this year I have convinced my daughter to go too when we cruise in October.

    • @DisneyCruisers
      @DisneyCruisers  5 лет назад +1

      I took my 8 year old snorkeling ... it was a lot of work! But, she’s not a great swimmer. Heck, it was a lot of work for me just to get out there... I hate the flippers. I can’t figure them out 🤦‍♀️ but it is worth it!!! Love the snorkeling trail!

    We've been on 6 cruises since 1999. We went to Serenity Bay for the first time in 2016. Our (20-something) children grew up on the Family Beach and wanted to try Serenity Bay. They absolutely loved it. I absolutely hated it. It felt hotter. It was too quiet. I missed the sound of children playing. I missed the palm trees on the beach. I missed seeing the ship docked. I completely agree with your views. My husband and I are cruising in a few months and will not be taking the journey to SB!

  • @timharrison1447

    I totally get what you're saying. Our first cruise was for our 25th wedding anniversary. My wife and I went to Serenity Bay. We stayed about an hour, commented that we really missed being around kids, and went over to the family beach to hang out! Since then we've been back to Serenity Bay a few times, but usually don't spend the entire time there. We enjoy watching kids play on the other beach. However, I will say that if you're looking for a more relaxed dining experience, the Serenity Bay area is where you want to be. Keep up the good work!

    • @DisneyCruisers
      @DisneyCruisers  5 лет назад +2

      Yes the dining is more relaxed! For some reasons my family always ends up eating as the food is about to close so it’s fairly stress free in that case. However, the best is when you are there on a classic ship!! I always feel like no one is on the island compared to the dream class 😃

    Been to Castaway 4 times on summer cruises. All four times the family beach was empty. Serenity bay was packed. Didn't care for it either. I'm a swimmer and Serenity never gets more than two feed deep no matter how far out you go, at least as far as I can tell. My kids are grown but I still like the family side better.

    We split the day up, in the morning we get off and hit the family beach with the kids till lunch, we get lunch at Cookies Too with the kids then they go off and have some free time while we head to Serenity Bay for a few hours and really enjoy it

    Ashley - great post as always! I almost completely agree with you, almost ... we prefer the fun and busy vibe over on the family side like you, BUT, the water at Serenity Bay is like nothing I’ve experienced anywhere else, you can walk way out into the bay and just plop down in the crystal clear water and sit and soak in the wonderfulness of it all while colorful fish start to swirl all around you. Stunningly pristine and beautiful! The family side is great to, but the water gets stirred up a lot, it’s downright murky at times. I definitely spend more time hanging out on family side, but when I want to experience postcard level Caribbean water, I head over to Serenity Bay.

    I'm not a fan of serenity bay either. I had seen videos with fruit carts and soda machines (which obviously was in the family area). And all there was was the bar. Next time I go I will only do the family beach.

    • @DisneyCruisers
      @DisneyCruisers  5 лет назад +1

      They do have a soda machine there, but it is super easy to miss. And yes, the gorgeous carts of fruit are on the family side. They must think that adults don't like carts of fruit.

    1 thing Serenity Bay has is Serenity. Lots of quiet, just the waves of the ocean. No kids, I think a lot of people really like that. There’s plenty of bars with “loud” music on the family side of the island. 1 thing I like about Serenity Bay is that they serve steaks on the grill. They don’t do that on the family side.

    I just got back from my 7 day Disney cruise. When we docked at Castaway Cay, I didn’t get off the ship till like 11:15a. I think I was on the island for maybe 1hr. It’s a pretty place, but it was crowded at Serenity Bay, I ended up eating and going back to the ship. I’m a Florida native, when you can visit the beach anytime, it doesn’t really interest me to visit beaches. I didn’t totally enjoy the cruise, it was super crowded and I was dodging kids all the time walking around the ship. By day 4 I was over the Disney music.

    • @DisneyCruisers
      @DisneyCruisers  5 лет назад +1

      Yes afternoons on serenity seem to be a lot more crowded than the mornings that is for sure. And yes I too have the option to go to the beach whenever I want as well.. which is why I go back to the ship early on routes where castaway is the last day of the cruise! Rather spend it on the ship than in the sand👍🏻

  • @philipcandella943
    @philipcandella943 5 лет назад +1

    Our kids are 24 & 29 so it's a couples cruse for us. I do LOVE the quiet of Serenity Bay and it was awesome being there all day. However, when we walked back to the ship we passed through the family beach we felt like we had missed a lot & we did. When we are there (NEXT WEEK YEAY) the plan is to spend more time at the family beach & see more of the stuff over there. For sure we will hit the quiet side but just not for so much time. We are not super big on excursions so we will just rent bikes for an hour & rent some inner tubes. I think we need to go there about 6 more times before we get to see it all.

    • @DisneyCruisers

    I didn’t go to serenity bay until my 13th cruise...and then left for the family beach an hour later. Something you didn’t mention was that the sun doesn’t reach that side of the island until later in the day in the winter months so it was just too darn cold for me. It almost feels like serenity bay was an afterthought since the family beaches and surrounding areas are so built up and serenity bay is just not that developed.

    • @DisneyCruisers
      @DisneyCruisers  5 лет назад +2

      You are so right! It is much colder on that side.. and when it rains in the morning the chairs don’t dry off. Excellent comment! Thanks Auburn!

    I can’t believe how many of your preferences I agree with! Serenity Bay is beautiful but my husband and I, who have never cruised with children, much prefer the “family” Castaway experience. And, I really think the food is better on the family side! 😊. We almost always go to Serenity and walk around but usually end up back with the crowds! Thank you for your videos.

    My biggest disappointment with Castaway Cay was a lack of accessible cabanas. One accessible cabana on the whole island is like having one accessible parking spot at a mall. At the very least, a "Castaway Getaway" that multiple families of individuals with disabilities could share throughout the day would be really thoughtful - particularly for those with conditions that require sun protection or sensory breaks.

    To argue your point of scuttle cove, sure i could put my non existence kids there but i still have to hear the screams and shrills of other kids from other familys. The point of Serenity Bay is peace and quite and relaxing because that is what one is meant to do on a vacation. Also to argue your point that its not disney enough is that you get your disney fill on the cruise ship the magic is all there, when you get the few hours to relax and enjoy peace and quite and beauty that is another magic in itself.

    • @DisneyCruisers
      @DisneyCruisers  5 лет назад

    I went to Serenity Bay for the first time last year on me and my best friends cruise. I loved it, it was like being on a deserted island 🌴 it was SO relaxing. I think that’s the point I mean it’s in its name. It was getting away from the world some quiet and some peace of mind. We laid in the sun for a bit, laid on our floats in the water for a bit, had lunch and we had an excursion booked but it got cancelled. So it was in the evening and we decided we would just get back on the boat and take a nap before dinner. It was extremely hot that day, it was mid September so the sun did drain us a bit. After that we dropped the kids off at Scuttles Cove, then hubby and I spent a couple hours at Serenity Bay. It was so peaceful and quiet! And the water was so nice! We struck up a conversation with a fellow cruiser
    and we were able to talk in peace because, NO KIDS!🤣 It really is two totally different experiences. If you like quiet and laid back, Serenity will be your thing. If you like it more lively with lots of activity, then the family beach will be your best bet. It's kind of like comparing DCL to WDW. Two totally different experiences.

      I need to try the Family area sometime. It just always seems to be so crowded.

      Dont hang out by the snorkeling area. Go further down to the second family beach. Over by the water slides. Much less crowded over there :)

    Electrons. Subtraction. Division. Property taxes. Minus signs. "You should have stayed longer into the afternoon." "That's the point of it: to be nice and quiet and calm, without your kids." Undeveloped film. There, that's all the negative things I have to say to you. XD
    When I write "nasty things" to people, they're the *good* nasty things. ;) Except when I write them to my wife apparently, because she just rolls her eyes. :/
    Any chance you made this video after watching GoT?

      This is hilarious!! At first I was reading the comment and then I had to look to see what video it was for.. I teach math and science so my first thought was “how do they know I teach that?” 😂 also, I have never seen game of thrones. Did this relate to that?

      @@DisneyCruisers No, but the video came out about 30 minutes after the latest Game of Thrones episode was over, so that made me think you waited. lol
      What grade(s) do you teach? My wife is an elementary school teacher, currently Kg, but looking elsewhere (her favorite was 4th GT). She might even jump to middle school.

      @@DisneyCruisers Heh, she's looking to move school districts. Her heart is 4th & 5th, mainly language arts, but also Texas history. She's even looking at middle school right now.

      What did I say about being nasty!!?!? .........
      😉😃 It doesn’t go with the rest of my vibe in my house .. however I do have a DCL ship painting in that room. And a few things from my cruises on my desk. But it’s on the other side of the room.
