Yesss been waiting for this album! "Don’t tell Dave” and "Carl Barker” and “Powder to the People” are my personal favs on this album. Ps... Yes this is the only album Jon wasn’t on.
Tree village didnt even touch on how groovy this album is dude. Carl Barker, Powder To The People , I'm Down With Brown Town and so many others (those are my person favs)
Bruh you got it, good on the research there! This album is fantastic and Will's a fun vocal addition for sure. Kurt does some backing screams on the album and did these screams live as well, but nowadays the ending of this is traded between Jon and Will and sounds awesome. This album feels very specific, much like the next one. I love Tilian to death but at a certain point, there is a kind of structural consistency his era brings that sort of nullifies an album's identity. It's appreciated but also feels a little more interchangeable in his era, whereas this album really has it's own identity. I feel like Happiness is a good proof of Kurt, while DBMII is Jonny and Acceptance Speech is Tilian's. Three albums in a row with three different singers, all their most defining. Crazy, no other band man!
Back in the day (when I was a fan before DTBM2 came out) I would have said that Will Swan was a better screamer overall but Jon in the last 5 albums has progressed so much that the tides have changed. I still love Will Swan but Jon Mess is the GOAT at the end of the day. Either way, I jammed this album for hours on end, and enjoyed playing drums for this on Rock Band for so long, it's an all-time favorite. As a side-note, I'm pretty sure that this is the first song that Kurt did unclean vocals. (Edit - Nah, Caviar is probably the first.)
Dude, I love your videos. Really cool to see someone discovering Happiness in real time. And Dance Gavin Dance, in general, for that matter. Keep it up, man!
Pleaseee check out something from Downtown Battle Mountain 2 album! I have had that record on nonstop this year, imo Jonny Craig delivers some of the best vocals in the entire DGD discography on there. His style is very R&B, with some mild roughness/ distortion adding so much passion. Standout tracks for me are Spooks, Elder Goose, and Blue Dream.
Yeah the bassist who played dbm and deathstar left before they toured the deathstar album, and the guy who took over bass during the deathstar touring phase (who was also the lead guitarist in one of kurt's old bands) left during the recording of happiness, though i believe all bass parts had already been recorded. The guy in the video is the bassist that joined right after recording was done, and left to allow for a classic lineup reunion. He rejoined after Johnny left, and has been their most iconic bassist and has now recorded 5 albums with them, with no intention to leave anytime soon.
Dude Corey's new solo album is starting to come together. He just released a song called 'Black Eyes Blue' a few hours ago. I checked it out and its pretty good. You should check it out
Kurt sometimes does harsh vocals, though I'm unsure if he did any at all on this track at all. Then again his screams have changed over the years. I'd like to recommend Five Minute Ride's EP "The World Needs Convincing of All That It's Missing" where Kurt did both clean and harsh vocals.
@@windmillsonthemoon586 I think it is. I'm not even sure he did the uncleans on this song. I've heard it was Will in the studio and they just did that for the video.
@@ggr9745 Right at the end. Chino sings "Would you like us to wave off every battle?" while Kurt sings "My invasion is your Caviar" then his screams "My invasion of thoughts is your caviar" get layered over.
They’re one of my favourite bands, and I’ve seen them play MUCH better since, but not long after this came out they played the worst show I’ve ever seen anyone perform lol.
the time has come! super excited for carl barker, happiness and NASA off this album

Carl Barker is one of my favorite DGD songs. Please do that one!
I remember going to these shows before they got so expensive. DGD $14 lol. But yeah I miss this style

We need these DGD reactions more frequently! Once a week is just not cutting it. Cant wait for the next one NASA!
Maybe Kurt did scream those parts live, but it sounds like all sreaming was done by Will, at least studio version.
Kurt has some decent screams in his repertoire. Very glad you've enjoyed all of their music.

Sometimes I just listen to this song over and over again 😂

Pretty sure that was Tim Feerick, the band's current bassist, in this video. He joined for a short time after this record was done.
It's the musicianship for me!!! They killed this!!!!! I mean, they always do but wow
I stayed distracted by the pup cam for this one
So glad you're keeping this up. Great one again

Love that youre on to Happiness now! Tree Village is a great opener to the album, and Nasa is next up and a great jam can't wait for that one

Yes sir Kurt can rip some beautiful and underrated uncleans from time to time
Please do react to issues stingray affliction or king of amarillo
I think Will layered screams but Kurt probably just did it for the music video/live
Yeahh!!! 😍😍😍

This is the only time Kurt does unclean vocals
That’s definitely not true.
