@David Parks First of all calm down. Where I'm form kids don't wear costumes at random, let alone have a box for them. At least that was the case, when I was growing up. The only way my parents could afford one was by knitting it and even that was just for a kindergarden party. Halloween wasn't really a thing in Poland until a year or two ago and in most cases people still just close the door on most kids. I myself don't celebrate it. I love how one of their current campaigns demanding that parents be mindful of how they dress their kids in costume as well as themselves for Halloween, saying do NOT 'appropriate' different cultures and traditional nationality dress if you don't belong to that ethnic background or certain group of people, such as Native American, Mexican, Frenchman, Geisha, etc., even fat suits in case you 'offend' the fatties! Thing is, I love the way it categorises a Middle-Eastern costume in the same campaign and what they have to say as to why it's inappropriate to wear that costume for Halloween in case it offends people. No, not because it might offend a Middle-Eastern person like the other nationalities, no mention of that, but because it might offend some Americans thinking 'suicide bomber'!
Okay, a couple of observations based on the utter tosh that hack wrote: 1. His argument that Ghostbusters costumes represent 'uniforms' is specious at best, flat-out dishonest at worst. He uses it as evidence to support his 'theory' but in order to make the theory work, he has to ignore everything about the Ghostbusters themselves, i.e. that they're scientists doing a grubby job that will ruin (via slime and ectoplasm) their own clothes. The Ghostbuster 'uniforms' are OVERALLS, because these are white-collar guys doing what amounts to a blue-collar job! If we accept Britt's argument that the Ghosbuster costumes are uniforms, we have to accept that sewer workers and dumpster drivers are in uniform. It's a ridiculous example to cite. 2. Speaking as someone who used to be a full-time child, I can tell you that I WAS attracted to uniforms - specifically the kind of armor worn by medieval knights and ancient Romans. Was that because I wanted to march in lock-step with my fellows and trample the barbarians beneath my sandalled feet while building an empire? No - it was because I liked the bling! For a kid the idea of armor is AWESOME! It looks GREAT! I loved armor! I WANTED armor! Was I thinking about civil wars, conquest, bloody repression? Of course not. I was a kid! Does this guy even LISTEN to kids? I'd bet not. His 'logic', if I can dignify this insanity with such a word, seems to be that if I love Star Wars (or Trek, or Babylon 5, or Battlestar Galactica, to name but a few) it means I'm really a closet fascist who dreams of subjugating the world and, furthermore, if I dress like any of these characters - Stormtrooper, Starfury pilot, whatever - it means I'm sending a signal to Concerned Parents that I'm a serial killer in training. This is exactly the sort of garbage from which moral panics grow, like in the 1980s when Concerned Parents believed playing Dungeons and Dragons meant we were all Satanists. As for his contention that Star Wars movies are anti-gun... just... what? Han Solo saying believing in the Force was "no subsitiute for a good blaster at your side" meant... he wanted to ban guns?! How can those two statements possibly mean the same thing? The one single coherent anti-gun statement in the whole of Star Wars comes from Oni-Wan Kenobi, when he says blasters are uncivilised. He doesn't want to ban them - he just thinks people who use them are barbarians. So does Britt want us all to carry lightsabers? This article is beyond ridiculous. Thank-you for presenting it. I needed a good laugh.

@@gsxerwhite Quibbling about kids out in Stormtrooper costumes is just mental as far as I am concerned. It is all going way too far. One of them likes dressing as a ninja but I would never worry he is going to silently assassinate the other kids at school. Crazy!
how quickly times have changed, i still remember dressing-up as jason voorhees many halloweens ago and having all my mothers friends not only say how cute i looked, but how good the costume was. i suppose some stick-in-the-mud may have questioned her about it and never told me but the point is that it was a bit of fun. shielding children from things is how you end-up with the emotionally incontinent youth of today. doesn't mean you should show hellraiser or evil dead to a three-year-old but educating them on all aspects of life is the important message.
"It took star wars 38 to give us a stormtrooper with a conscious" Yup, proof he's only seen the movies. We've had imperial defector characters left and right for 40 years, canon and legends. We dont have enough fingers to count how many characters betrayed the empire. This guy doesnt know shit. Even Han Solo was an imperial defector. So much for the " it took 38 years" angle. Im sorry, are we talking about the same Darth Vader that has committed genocide and committed the act of killing children TWICE? Oh but thats not as bad as stormtroopers because he's just one guy. You know who else was just one guy? Hitler. This is some 2 IQ shit. "Star Wars is a fairly anti-gun series" So we're just gonna pretend that scene with Han and Greedo didnt happen huh? If Han didnt have a GUN he'd be dead, shot first or otherwise. If the rebels didn't take arms to rise up against the empire that was oppressing them, they would be dead. Dont even get me started on the Clone Wars. Bail Organa, a fucking pacifist from a pacifistic planet (which ironically got blown up by the empire because they couldn't defend themselves) had a fucking concealed gun on him and had to use it to defend himself. I mean are you even paying attention? EVERYONE IN STAR WARS HAS A GUN. But anti-gun though.
A small point, but Alderaan could have had the most aggressive, war-like population in the known galaxy, but it would still have got blown up. Being pacifististic had nothing to do with it. Jus' saying...
@@richardpalmer1942 i never said they were blown up because they were pacifistic, we all know why they got blown up. but the fact that they had no defenses and got blown up while yavin sends a measly two fighter squadrons and took down the death stars flies in the face of that wacko's "star wars is anti-gun" bs.

You can tell how uncultured Ryan is by how he put Dracula and Frankenstein's monster in the same group. The whole point of Frankenstein was that the monster was kind and caring but because of his looks society rejected him and killed him. The monster only lashed out after being abused and was NOT the villain in the story but rather the VICTIM. But I wouldn't expect someone who only sees things at surface level, like the villagers in the story, to understand that.

There are very subtle signs that Disney are fixing Luke and literally killing off ReyLo. Disney couldn't do what some alienated veteran fans wanted and just say "We're sorry, we tried something different, _The Last Jedi_ was a mistake, and we regret how we portrayed Luke, and profited off the abusive relationship by encouraging the ReyLo fans with a special D23 panel" whilst they still had some chance to sell DVDs and Blu-rays of _Episode VIII._ Disney also couldn't course correct immediately due to the more rapid pace of episode release. George Lucas was able to minimise the screentime for Jar Jar Binks in _Episode II_ in response to negative feedback on _Episode I_ as he had given himself three years in between episodes, but Bob Iger only let Kathleen Kennedy have a two year interval (which he has since apologised for), actually less if you consider the intervening spin-off films. Kathleen Kennedy was overworked and consequently lacked oversight on _Solo_ only realising late into production that its two directors were indulging in excessive improvisation and largely ignoring _The Empire Strikes Back_ writer Lawrence Kasdan's script, and requesting the crew to stay longer incurring expensive overtime. Kathleen Kennedy was unhappy with its excessively comedic tone and the fact that it wasn't the script that they had agreed to make, so they were replaced by Ron Howard who had to reshoot a substantial amount of the movie. It is worth mentioning all this as _The Last Jedi_ did not influence the production woes of _Solo._ Disney did not realise how poorly _Episode VIII_ had been received based upon its strong opening weekend. It was diminishing its box office take in comparison to _Episode VII_ by about the same proportion as _Episode V_ and its more successful _Episode IV_ and the critical reception was good and it had an 'A' Cinemascore. So, it would take until _Episode IX_ (possibly sometime late into preproduction) for Disney to realise that they had to have Rey and Kylo actively try and kill each other at least by the end of the movie, do something to exonerate Luke and provide a credible reason why he would be so depressed and have cut himself off from the Force, and provide a backstory for Rey. They need to fix the Sequel Trilogy for the benefit of their alienated fans, and provide an original adventure for this last episode, and provide a fitting and emotionally resonant end to the Skywalker Saga that somehow refers back to the Prequels and the Original Trilogy so it all feels like it was carefully planned Luckily, all this is theoretically possible, but it would require a long movie. As _Episode IX_ is thought to be 150 minutes long, there is hope.

@David Parks First of all calm down. Where I'm form kids don't wear costumes at random, let alone have a box for them. At least that was the case, when I was growing up. The only way my parents could afford one was by knitting it and even that was just for a kindergarden party.
Remember when kids were allowed to play dress up and use their imaginations without it being evil somehow?
Church ladies bitched about our costumes, games, and records back in the 80s, too.
Yahoo? Jeeze, nobody cares what a high schooler thinks.
That part about Star Wars being anti-gun is hilarious. How the hell did he come up with that conclusion? Throw him in a Rancor pit!
Okay, a couple of observations based on the utter tosh that hack wrote:
Imma just sit back and watch the world burn.

Brought it on themselves, and it's honestly kind of funny. Instant payback for fucking with one of my favorite franchises.
They need to fix the Sequel Trilogy for the benefit of their alienated fans, and provide an original adventure for this last episode, and provide a fitting and emotionally resonant end to the Skywalker Saga that somehow refers back to the Prequels and the Original Trilogy so it all feels like it was carefully planned
Luckily, all this is theoretically possible, but it would require a long movie. As _Episode IX_ is thought to be 150 minutes long, there is hope.
