Apparently, this movie lost a lot of money,at least in the US. It was based on an autobiography about a young mobster. He wrote it to try to show the real side of that life that was undesirable. I guess people just love to romanticize these gangsters and want their Godfather pictures.
The scene where Patsy buys a girl a cake for sexual favours, but succumbs to his childish innocence and demolishes the dessert against Morricone's soundtrack, is a level of depth and heart that you rarely see anywhere in film. The movie is full of moments like this. That they kept the gag running, and the girl in question grows up fat from all the cakes she ate as a child, is Norm Macdonald levels of comedy. One of my favourite movies of all time.
The Godfather movies didn’t really speak to me. I loved Pritzi’s Honor. I couldn’t stop watching this movie even though it was almost 4 hours. I did it in shifts around my work schedule. What did you think about the ending?

As usual Jim U sussed another classic scene out in a movie with an abundance of them. Noodles and the boys are doomed from the get go. Leone hough dosent get sentimental about -if hod forbid this movie remade as and by an American it would destroy that nilism that runs through it. No one is safe from the corrupt lives they have including Deborah. .
