Left bachelors quay around 1958 and go back ocassionally to see family .i spend a lot of time on u tube just looking at old photos of the city i still love.
I left Kyrls St ,[ back door was in Kyrls quay] with Shandon Bells looking at me across the river in 1959 for London only got a Brother and his Family living there now, my heart still bleeds for that beautiful City by the River Lee
@@michaelhenchion8295 michael- I don't know how this started as it was along time ago ,and to be perfectly honest with you I'm not too clever on here.looking at the photos of cork in by gone days I'm sure the second photo (with push cart on)is the corner of Devonshire Street.havent been back for a couple years because of the covid ,looking forward to visit my brother and his family soon.they live out in togher.
@@michaelhenchion8295grew up in Kyle street mid sixties when I was 6 y old used to hang around the coal quay, when the tide was out use kids used to cross over the bridge go down the steps on the left to the river bank opposite Kyrls quay and catch dozens of eels put them in hessian sacks and sell them to the fish monger in the English market happy memories.
Having been born in Cork and lived there till I was 17, I still remember the endless rain and dampness which doesn't show through in the photos. Having said that, deep down I still feel drawn to walk the streets again come rain or shine.
My dad was from Castletown, left during the second would war. My mom was also from Ireland, she was a Murray. All my dad's relatives are all but gone. I only knew the Murray side of the family. When I visited Ireland, I spent my time with them. Always wanted to see Cork. Maybe one day, raise the flag for the house of Dunboy, my son is the last of our line.
2:42 Butter exchange. Geometrically perfect so called revised Greco Roman style architecture with a pigsty for a street. Looks like it was dug outta the mud!
Fascinating selection of old photographs. Thank you for uploading.
