You saidyourself tht it's the story thts Interesting not just what's left. So wheres the stories! I'm likely to go find another video about this town afterwards to get the full story. U could be a one stop shop if u added abit more history /facts into your video. Just a suggestion.. :) no hate, love from New Zealand

The only problem with manufacturing our own stuff again...let's say a pair of jeans, made in the USA would cost close to $80. instead of $15 to $20. The cost of "things" would go through the roof. You would have people going without what is considered normal today.

    • @CarstenNRW

Manufacturing is 90% low income or will be done by robots in no time. USA really wants to compete with China, Vietnam, India and so on for Jobs which will be a job for robots in 5 or 10 years? Who is supposed to buy American made if it's made for 1/4 the price in Asia or soon Africa? It does make sense for high priced goods but not for the normal stuff

    • @navinbabji

Hi Josh! I would say that the abandoned radio station that you were in was a Contemporary Christian Radio Station. The vinyl record that you pulled out was Carmen who was a Christian Artist who in fact, passed away two years ago this month. When you showed the shelves of Cds, I saw names like Audio Adrenaline, DC Talk and Petra. Those people are all Christian recording artists. Anyone who grew up with Christian music like I did would love to get a hold of all those CDs and records! There are probably some very rare recordings there! It's a shame that it's all going to be ruined by water and possibly the roof caving in. I love those old houses! Gorgeous!

I live near Salem City. It's heartbreaking every time I have to drive through that town. The architecture is absolutely amazing with gingerbread, floor-to-ceiling windows, gothic fireplaces and cast iron fences. Some of the first homes that were built in America are in Salem. Some people are buying (the property is dirt cheap) and restoring, but it's a hard go because there is so much crime, no one wants to live there. Slumlords buy the big Victorians up, chop them up into apartments on the cheap and then rent to people who are poor. Regarding the old lady in the nursing home and her abandoned home--I actually visit her. My daughter who was working in the nursing home told me about an old lady who needed a visitor. She doesn't have any family. Not a soul. I think she's 90-years-old now. Her husband was a teacher and she was an artist. She did a lot of tapestry, sewing, and fashion. She loved that house. She hated leaving it but I believe she was robbed a few times. I haven't seen her in a while because of Covid but this was a reminder to visit. I wish the "leaders" of Salem County would figure out a way to save Salem City.

@@dougfenton8755 if you have time to wait. I heard they are building a plant or something on the waterfront to build solar panels. That will bring lots of jobs. Hoboken used to be a dump (I am originally from Jersey City). It was so bad, you didn't tell anyone your relatives lived there because you were embarrassed. Now it's all restored because people who work in NYC moved there. It's an easy commute across the river. Now you have to be rich to live there. The brownstones, once crumbling and full of rats, go for millions of dollars now. Salem reminds me of that.

There are amazing and selfless people that live in Salem and we pour SO much love into our community. Everyone tries to help everyone. Our teachers are the most amazing people and change the lives of the kids here. Violence is everywhere. Unfortunately, it’s showcased here more than anything else. John Fenwick named the town salem which stood for friendly. The John Fenwick boat was at the school for years. The flag shows John Fenwick shaking hands with the Indians. I remember pledging the allegiance, singing, before school started. Salem had great schools. I'm glad you commented too.

I'm just thankful Salem was a nice town when I lived there. My house did have spirits. Some good some bad. Alot of homes were like that. I lived at 51 seventh street. John Fenwick named that town. Salem means welcome, friendly. Their were native American Indians that lived there in the early times. John Fenwick founded that town. The creek all the way down on seventh Street was known to have spirits. My sister and I believe that the native American people lived on the field of the seventh street field. I know alot about that town.

I live close to that area here in New Jersey. Most of South Jersey is pretty derelict and dilapidated because all the factories were shut down. Course we can sync our previous presidents, starting with Bush for outsourcing those jobs to China and other places for cheap labor. When that happens, all of the blue-collar workers lost their jobs, couldn’t afford housing, and moved out, or became homeless, and then addicted to drugs. It’s really sad. You should look up Wheatons glass factory in Millville. Same thing happened there. But that’s what happens when government decides to outsource for cheaper labor. Americans end up homeless.

It is so sad to see stuff like that but also interesting. There needs to be specific funds or something so towns like that can be restored and bring back people. Or just the houses for the homeless at least until they can get on their feet and the towns get restored

Salem County is full of history in nearly every corner, but somehow over the years, the money to be made has dwindled. Deepwater, Salem, Pennsville - they've all suffered and are only barely kept alive by a few businesses (Acme, post office, etc.). Definitely more to explore here, so I hope you take the time to show how beautiful it really is.

I LIVE IN THE TOWN OVER I CANT BELIEVE YOU ARE IN MY AREA 🤗😲🥰 Fan girling so hard!!!! FYI i watched Shrek 2 in that movie theater!!! That theater unfortunately had 2 fires since its been closed. I cant believe how much is still there. The seats were on an incline/hill so people could see. Also I actually worked in salem at the county court house! Theres so much history including parts of the underground railroad. Salem used to be home to the Salem Oak tree where some settlers and the indigenous of the area signed a peace treaty, it unfortunately finally fell a few years back!

I know you shouldn’t take from abandoned buildings but that record collection must have some diamonds hidden in there and it seems such a shame for them to be left to decay.

Hey Josh, here's some info for ya:
    21:33 - SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS
21:09 - BARGEBOARD - or rake fascia is a board fastened to each projecting gable of a roof to give it strength and protection, and to conceal the otherwise exposed end grain of the horizontal timbers or purlins of the roof.
    23:49 - QUEEN ANNE style.
    25:34 - TICKET BOOTH.
    26:38 - CONCESSION STAND - THAT'S the concession stand.
28:00 - MOVIE THEATER - Yup that's how it was back in the day before we even had wheels and had to walk up hill both ways to school....in the snow year round.....with no shoes. 😂
30:30 - BRUCE WILLIS - Has Aphasia and Frontotemporal Dementia. 😥
31:45 - SCUBA GEAR - Are you even scuba certified? 🤔
    32:32 - SAFETY DEPOSIT BOXES.
35:51 - ABANDONED ASHES - Family members don't claim the remains or mismanagement.
37:17 - BALTIMORE - Why stay there and not in Philadelphia which is closer to Salem, NJ?
Stay safe and take care. 😇

For the record, while there are many abandoned buildings, Salem is not a ghost town. There are many residents who live there still, including my aunt, and my grandparents until they passed in 2015/2017. There’s also a full school system and a thriving football team. Please share the full story of a community when providing coverage please. Salem native here, who still goes to visit her aunt.
Also, the movie theater is in a neighboring town named Pennsville.

Every town like this have plenty of people still there. Most people won’t abandon houses and property they bought or inherited because they grew up there. They take care of it regardless if they live an hour away.

I grew up in salem. I have great childhood memories I'll always treasure. The Lenape Indians were in this town. John Fenwick founded this town and had a peace treaty with the Lenape Indians. John Fenwick named the town salem which means salem. There is alot of history here. Pennsville movie theater closed unfortunately. I do remember one in salem and my dad said there were 2 when he was growing up.
