I would argue that Daigo isn't necessarily evil, but more misguided. Like Valeria's search for knowledge, Daigo is genuinely interested in the masks, and believes that they can bring good. Of course, he goes a bit too far in his pursuit, and like Valeria, he unearths forbidden magic that wreaks havoc on their island.
i feel like nobody pays attention to the real villains in fortnite. like in ch 5 season 1 the real villain was oscar and not valieria. and now people think the night rose is the villain but in reality it’s daigo.
After a comment on another video I actually think the ancestor is a previously established character. However it's Kado not Geno. His name not only sounds like Kendo, a descendant of the ancestor, but they wear a similar mask to the Oni ones. Plus it makes sense with how much this season is based on ch4 s4 to tie it to it's villain: an immortal time traveler with a taste for masks and relics.
I personally don’t think Daigo is necessary evil, but good with the demons possessing him to research the masks to give them more power and Jade getting trapped in the Spirit Realm was just a nasty side situation.
Hope and the Oni are looking for two different things, but the story wants you to believe they are one and the same currently. The Oni are looking for the shard and the Mask at Masked Meadows that Daigo is reconstructing is what Hope and Jones are looking for imo. They are related somehow in this overarching plot but not one and the same. The Portals were activated by the shard crashing, that makes it clear that they are looking for the shard. It responded to its presence. Hope came here looking for an artifact similar to Pandora's Box on the ch5 island, notably before the shard arrived as we saw in the event. She was led here before the thing she is pursuing arrived? It doesn't make sense because she came here for that Mask. It is an artifact tied to the island's mythology in the same way Pandora's Box was. Kendo, Jade, and Daigo are embroiled in their own plot likely revolving around their ancestry in the same way Hope and the Society were on their island. This has been my assumption so far because something really fishy is going down on this island.

Sio, there is a new jam track in the battle pass called night rose's song. I have no idea if you have checked it out yet, but it has some interesting lyrics that might be useful to the lore. The song is in japanese, but there are already many videos translating the lyrics!
So WinterFest will be called Wintervestigation and I think this means WinterFest will be part of ch6's story so here is how I think the Wintervestigation story will go snow will fall on the land, islanders will enjoy the holiday fun and put up holiday decorations on the island and SGT. Winter comes back and throws presents at islanders and Oni hide and start revealing themselves and steal the presents and the detective skins will see the Oni steal the presents and will hunt down the Onis and Snoop Dog and Shaq will help the detectives and Jones and Hope will also help the detectives and the islanders will help the detectives and SGT. Winter will also help by having his raindeer henchmen help the detectives as SGT. Winter will still deliver the presents on the island that were not stolen but it will be revealed the Oni also want to steal the entirety of WinterFest from the island and bring it into the spirit realm which SGT. Winter and the islanders and Snoop and Shaq and Jones and Hope don't want that happen and Daigo will help the Oni steal presents and WinterFest from the island and our team and us will haunt down the Oni and kill the ones that stole the presents and gain back the presents and then confront and hunt down Daigo which he will not win and WinterFest will be saved and Daigo and the Oni will be put on SGT. Winter's naughty list and Daigo will realize what he did is wrong and he will now fight against the Onis which reedeems him to be on SGT. Winter's nice list
