👉 Chickens live on bedding and poop directly into it. If everything is done correctly, the bedding is dry.
❗️ It only becomes damp due to mistakes:
the bird has diarrhea (poor nutrition),
too many chickens per square meter,
    leaky waterers.
👉 Wet bedding produces ammonia, a caustic gas with the smell of a cat litter box. Ammonia burns the bird's skin. If a chicken lies in the dirt for a long time, burns appear on the chest and paws.
⚠️ Paws are often sold separately.
So, when you're at the store, check the breast: spots and dark spots mean poor conditions.
👉 Fishmeal improves weight gain. It's given because the birds don't have access to a range and don't receive the full diet, as they would in a backyard. However, it's removed two weeks before slaughter. If the chicken smells fishy, it means the producer cut corners.
