8:00 Yeah, I do have another POV and it's from Reddit!
Before the WC, we had precisely zero American people who actively wore a USA flair on cricket subreddits but NOW, we're seeing dozens of them. Same with Canada, we used to have like 1 or 2 Canadian flairs before and now one can spot loads of them!
Following the trend of popularity of cricket on reddit might be a good experience imo
Also, USACricket has it's own subreddit(which has been in existence for quite some time) so yeah, check that out if you wanna

6:10 That's a problem only on the NY pitch as that pitch in particular was a "drop-in" pitch flown over from Australia and on average, a drop-in pitch needs an year or so to settle whereas the current NY pitch has just been there for a month or so now so that's why we're having problems there
The other two American venues, the Grand Prairie and the one in Florida are just fine becuz they didn't have to get a drop-in pitch becuz they've bee around for some time whereas the NY stadium was built in the last 6 months in preparation for the WC and will most certainly be taken down after the WC ends as it's a temporary stadium built in a hurry and nothing else

I think expecting cricket to become a mainstream sport in America overnight was always unrealistic. Even soccer took a long time after the soccer WC was held in '94 to gain any ground. Maybe if the MLC gets more popular and cricket at the LA Olympics over an extended period of time it could be a top 15 or top 10 sport in the US.

A few comments. There is nothing “wrong” with the pitch in NY. It is not much different from many pitches in England at this time of the year. Ball moves around, weather is overcast, and the outfield is wet. Initially the drop in pitch was bouncing excessively because it was prepared in haste. But with more matches having been played on it the bounce is a lot better now and certainly not dangerous. International batters are expected to adapt to playing conditions anywhere in the world and sadly both India and Pakistan were found wanting. As far as cricket awareness goes, there are now 400 teams in cricket leagues around the USA and this number is certain to grow now with the WC exposure. Cricket will never be as popular as basketball, football and baseball or even soccer. But it may very well end up being a niche sport with a large following like hockey.

Idk if u"ll be reading this comment or not but I do agree with most of the points u made...It won't be easy growing the game seeing that the avg American already have dedicated sports but same was with the soccer when it was introduced in USA in 1992 ig and it almost took 20+ Years to attract avg Americans to play that sport...With cricket it will take time for sure but what advantage cricket has that which soccer didn't have back in the days was people who actually knew and played the sport... Large Asian and Carribbean population means they r still large no. Of kids who r playing the sport and seeing USA hosting and performing in this wc gives them hope that they can do the same in the future...They have MLC which gonna start next month ( This season some high profile cricketers r joining the league) which means it could only grow from here and not to mention the similarity with baseball will surely make some people curious to try the sport..Kids in America can aspire to play with MLC developing cricket from grassroots level and every South asian kid must be frnds with avg Americans kids which means when they see how cricket is giving them a career and they r making money out of it will Pique interest in them and eventually Kids will start playing the sport but to make sure that happens ICC needs to keep investing in USA and make sure that this wc was not one of only affair.

  • @stue2298
    @stue2298 3 месяца назад

The procrastination of the ICC spending 2 years doing nothing then having to rush the NY stadium in the last 6 months made the premier venue for the big games in american slow, unexciting and even dangerous for the players, it almost like the ICC are sabotaging themselves not to be successful in america.
The more immigrants from Cricket watching and playing countries the bigger cricket in the USA will become. If USA reach the Super 8 stage, more mainstrain media will be aware and promote the USA's success and may want to cash in on that, that will make cricket more visable to the general population of the USA.
Football mainly a 'girls sport' in the USA, it has taken a long time over 20 years since the 1994 world cup held in the USA to get a foundation of support for the men game there.
Only last year the the First MLC was played in the USA so i magine it will take a long time to get general support for cricket, then USA can join the rest of the world in team sports along side rugby and football.
This is the trouble of USA having their own sports like American Football and Baseball, which they have tried to export around the world with very limited success.

I think you’re right, a huge amount would need to be done to build the kind of grassroots system and schools leagues to get enough kids playing to produce enough talent to sustain a top team. I’ve long thought that one of the traditional ‘big three’ American sports is going to have to decline a fair bit to make room for another to really take hold. My impression is that Baseball is the one most in decline and soccer is catching up the fastest, would you agree?

It’s not easy for any new sport to come in and gain traction. Even to get a small foothold, it takes decades. Consider soccer…it has been popular for some time now, but it’s still not mainstream.
Having said that, the world is moving from big mass appealing events/sports to niche events. With 20+ million immigrants from commonwealth countries, South Asia and Caribbean cricket can carve out a niche and grow over time. This is specially true now that baseball has declined considerably. Baseball is a niche sport with dedicated fan base, but no mass appeal. Same goes for NBA. NBA finals with Michael Jordan were watched by 30+ million people….now they are lucky to get 10M. The NBA regular season is an abomination with no mass appeal. I for one am very happy to be able to watch a sport that is free of wokeness and other BS that (unfortunately) has infected American sports leagues.
No one will touch NFL and CFB anytime soon….but with the sports getting watered down in the name of player safety and more people not wanting their sons to play Football, the decline is inevitable over long term.
More soccer, more cricket, more rugby … YES Please.

I agree luke i dont think its going to be very big but definitely an achievement and initial breakthrough for usa cricket. Its gonna take some time for them to become one of the best cricketing nations are far from generating that fanbase in the country for the sport. But i think if mls has good competiveness, usa cricketers start getting picked in ipl usa could catch on the cricket hype early than we think. Thing is t20 is a very interesting and engaging format of the game. Every ball is an event, i dont see this much engagement even in football for that matter let alone baseball. So im sure once an American watches even one competive t20 cricket match they will be sold for the sport. Especially if they bored with baseball, theyd shift pretty quick.Though its gonna be at varying pace for different people in the country and maybe not at all for some. But thing is cricket is also growing simultaneously in other countries from netherlands to ireland etc so i wont be surprised usa taking cricket seriously in near future.

Not trying to discourage you but 10 to 20 years is short term. Data from footballing countries suggests you need 3 generations to professionalize a sport that's already being played in that country. So I'm afraid you can add another 2 or 3 generations. Maybe the popularity of (and money involved in) cricket can push that along a bit.
