@@sceneinvegas the only reason we haven't had one already is because previous shoes had technical and budgetary restrictions. We always knew there were dozens hundreds or even thousands of some ship types but they couldn't show more than a few at a time. And yeah, they have a perfect in story reason for a fleet of advanced and nearly identical ships, I bet they even finally got around to giving earth a fleet of dedicated ships for its defense! Because 300 years of a half ready Enterprise being the "only ship in the area" is ridiculous for a major galactic power.
If Starfleet made the "toughest and fastest" ship, why wouldn't they make a whole lot more, and they'd be the first ones to come to the rescue. Sorry that went over your head. smh
DS9 was able to make massive fleets with many classes of ships from Federation, Klingon, Cardassian and Dominion on a shoestring budget. Have you seen some of the work that a lone RUclipsr can do with special effects?? Picard is just laziness with that copy and paste scene in my opinion.
Star Trek battles are always better when they stick to the concept of "less is more". I'd much rather watch a fight between two fleets of 3-5 ships rather than the junk Star Wars wannabe fleets made up of hundreds of copy-and-paste ships. Picard had some moments early on, but the last two episodes of the season were an absolute mess. And I can't be the only one disappointed that we didn't get a fight between the Seven-controlled cube and the Romulan fleet. That would have made for a much better finale.
Definitely takes most of it's inspiration from the intrepid but I see the rest os from the Aribter class from Star Trek Online, especially the secondary hill and shuttle bay, I can see a little of the akira with the catamaran style on the saucer flanking both sides of the bridge.
I know this ship is controversial, but I honestly really love it. It's a cool blend of the Sovereign, Akira, and Intrepid-classes with some new stylistic elements. I do wish they featured other ship classes in the fleet at the end of Picard, as it did really give off a feeling of copy-and-paste. And that "concept one" ship concept is really cool and I hope they build on it and bring it and more of the actual Zheng He in season 2.
It's such an odd little duck, but I can't help but like it. It has my favorite curves of the Enterprise E and Voyager. And something about that Jet Jaguar grill makes it stand out for me.
This video reminds me of the old days and seeing General Motors concept cars at an auto show and then seeing the production version years later. The concepts in the magazine are so beautiful but the product lost so much. The changes are subtle but they add up to be less than the concept. That said, I have 2 of these on order and I can’t wait to get them.
Yeah they should've have just said it was a photonic fleet after the romulans leave because I can't see Starfleet putting together ten times more ships of the same class no doubt, faster than they put that Wolf 59 fleet together, especially for synthetics which they had a ban against at the time. I guess Star fleets an all out rapid response war fleet now.
these sketches were also used by Cryptic years ago to make the Arbiter & Avenger class ships in Star Trek Online, that's the game Eaves was talking about in the article.
I think the problem is that’s it’s too detailed, like a simple voyager style deflector or even defiant style one would improve this ship by a factor of 2x
I can't unsee a hair clipper. Even some glowy paint or plastic between the prongs would have helped. It's reminicient of the D7 grill on the upper back end pod. Even if it were painted copper to differentiate would have been an upgrade.
Great review all around! It really does suffer from the feel of a rushed design... and perhaps a committee design! Let’s see that John Eaves concept made!
Could not agree more. It's almost like the dorsal and ventral sides were designed by different people. That deflector is ugly AF...looks like the front grill of a car.

Does it not have a deflector dish? Anyway, the Inquiry isn't my favorite shape, but looking at it as an individual model, it looks better than the copypasted mess we saw on screen.
I ( in one way) am looking forward to the review of the dhaulchina class command strike wing warbird (referred to in sto) in its physical form, but as for the inquiry class. I am a bit disappointed that there is no mention of the crew completed at all but the other warbird from sto has peeked my interest, but the dhaulchina is just another ship to add to my fleet, oh my yes. My ever growing but if I have the money to get them though.
Reasoning behind the copy/paste fleet. While Starfleet has many shipyards, Utopia Planitia was the primary shipbuilding facility for new Starfleet designs. When it was destroyed, Starfleet needed a new response vessel. It's a lot easier to base variations off of a single base design than hundreds of new class starships. That being said, I'd love for that concept with the negative space in the saucer be a ship for season 2. Especially if that means seeing a model of it.
For me the colour is wrong, there are no Starfleet pennants and I'm not sure why it has a radiator grille at the front of the engineering hull, but I assume Alex Klutzman mandated it because he thought it looked more Star Wars-ish. Picard is not a show I have watched (or ever will watch) but this ship at least bears a passing resemblance to the established Star Trek universe and it's enough of a curiosity piece that I will probably buy it when Hero Collector have their next sale. Thanks for the interesting review.
Very curious to see what the alternate nacelle would do to the feel of it. It looks fine from the top angles but I'm no fan of the bottom side. Love the shuttle bay though it looks a little shallow and stretched unless your shuttles are all like the type 10.
Also the finale of Picard didn’t need armadas. Picture this... the Borg cube doesn’t crash but survives the attack from the flowers, it’s in orbit as the romulan fleet arrive. 7of9 connects herself to the cube again and commands the cube and the remaining Borg drones to ready the ship for battle with the romulan fleet. A mighty battle ensues between the Borg cube and the romulan fleet, spectacular in its visual design as the flowers from the surface join with the Borg to push back an advancing romulan fleet. Picard and Agnes on the LaSirena fly through the battlefield to try and get to the capitol romulan ship to try a diplomatic solution with the romulan commander... the LaSirena is crippled at the last by the capitol ship and in a moment akin to the Enterprise E arriving just in time to save the Defiant in First Contact, the USS Titan arrives, swooping in between the LaSirena and the Romulan capitol ship. A wide shot reveals that Riker brings a fleet of Starfleet ships lead by the Titan and the Romulans, withdraw... until the next time (no clear resolution). Meanwhile, it becomes even harder for 7of9 to remove herself from the Queen chamber, she does with Elnors help, but it suggests that the Borg are perhaps slowly trying to bring 7 back into the collective as their queen... the Borg cube leaves orbit with 7 and Elnor with the mission of trying to find a new world for the remaining Borg to colonise... all the while the voices of the collective ring in 7’s head... Elnor attaches himself to 7’s cause. Picard doesn’t die but the effects of his syndrome are becoming more apparent, he is unconscious as the scene with Data plays out unchanged, when picard awakes, he is onboard the titans medical bay and learns that Agnes has been arrested and thrown in the Titans brig for the murder of Maddox, there is no ridiculous intergalactic space AI rift, the admonition was not a real prophecy but born from the Romulans fear of synthetic life forms. The Soji storyline plays out by her rediscovering herself on the planet surface, she fights Narek but instead of killing him, she detains him and Starfleet pick him up. Soji then has a choice to make; does she remain on the planet with the other synth refugees or does she leave on board the Titan with Picard... she decides that leaving and representing synthetic life forms is more important and leaves with Picard. The LaSirena is towed into the Titan’s shuttle bay with Rios and Raffi are onboard the LaSirena talking about how they’d rather not step onto another Starfleet ship just yet, talking about how they’ve enjoyed helping Picard and would be willing to continue serving with him... Picard with Soji in the Titan’s ten forward are looking over the planet below talking about how fragile life is, about Picards irreversible condition and how there’s more to see and do before his time is up... The Titan leaves orbit with the Starfleet armada as we zoom out from Picard and Soji and from the ten forward window as the Titan moves away and enters warp towards earth...
As far as the paint scheme on the underside goes, it reminds me of a camouflage as used in WWII aircraft. Hard to detect by the naked eye when the ship is in orbit around a planet as it blends into the clouds sky. Just my $.02 worth Nice model!
That's the lateral sensor array along r edges of the saucer. The lower portion is the lower sensor array package. Then lower still that huge ass grill on the cargo bay.
Just got mine and I get what you mean about "cool?" I thought the big space where the deflector/sensor dish is a cargo bay. Which would make sense if this was a one size fits all ship.
it's a shame these designs were 'rushed' into service, it would have been great to see all three of them with their proper curves and silhouettes. At the end of season 1 picard, they all did seem too.... polygonal for my aesthetical tastes. But ahh well, maybe they can retconn it later :)
Thanks for getting me hooked on these Star Trek ships 180 of the damn things, thanks alot, Only kidding it's a great collection thanks for your videos, starting the online versions now, so far top quality ships, Aliens are popping up here and there around the games room, Battlestar Galatica is here to
Everyone blames the change in script so short before the air date for the rushed design pick and copy paste. But I think the actual issue is that they wanted to keep this secret. They could have just asked the community to provide some digital assets in return for some producer credits or something and we would have gotten a wonderful fleet of ship within a day or so.
The video game concept these designs evolved from was for Star Trek Online. Not the current Star Trek Online, but one that was in development in the mid '00s, but was never finished.
She certainly look like she's been through the wars, or maybe more than a few dust clouds. More like what you'd expect in ST Discovery S3 with the older Federation ships. Would have been better if the producers had used the Titan.
If all of that weathering is just going through dust clouds, then their navigational deflector isn't working properly lol. Even at sublight speeds, striking particles of dust in space would put holes all throughout the ship. I'm just going off of what Trek has already explained, so that's not just me babbling off.
As much as i have a love/hate for the copy paste fleet i felt that, even though it was a different show seeing all the brand new and bizarre concepts for future starfleet in Discovery kind of scratched the itch for me
DS9 was able to make a massive federation fleet with so many classes of ships on a low budget. Was a little disappointed in the infamous copy and paste scene of Picard.. This ship is ok.. Just don’t like the usual deflector dish area. Looks like something from a garbage scoull, lol.
@@DrewLSsix While it IS true that he is leading the fleet, Admiral is a rank and not a position. It's like how a CFO (position) could be held by someone with the title (rank) of "director" or "VP" or anything. Riker is the officer commanding the fleet. He holds the rank of Captain. His position is fleet commander. It's likely that the position would normally be held by an Admiral but that doesn't make him and Admiral. He even introduces himself as "Acting Captain Will Riker."
It was a really disappointing scene in the series. There was a real build up to the big final battle. But there wasn't really a battle and after battle and fleet scenes in DS9 with loads of different ships all we get for the Picard finale is a copy and paste job with the same Federation ship on one side copied multiple times and the same Romulan ship duplicated multiple time. Very disappointing.
Unpopular opinion: if this is as advanced, powerful, resilient and just plain badass as Riker says it is, then there's nothing to stop this class from featuring the latest Enterprise NCC-1701-F.
The copy and paste crit is ironic, in that back in the 60s OS there was only 1 conny in the ships of the line. And when Discovery brought in diversity in Ship design the same snootyness ensues. We can only have Diversity in the correct age on the Star Trek timeline. ;D
USS Zheng He(鄭和)---i really don't know where they translated from ..........(Mandarin Chinese may be???........) P.S. your pronunciation is very good BTW!!!
John literally had only an hour to make a few ships for an entire fleet? Yep, that definitely shows... I think this Hero Collector model has more details on it than the ship in the show ever did. The show version I don't think even had windows or registry on it. Why was there such mismanagement throughout this whole first season?
Its such a bland design. It looks like a federation ship, but like a smaller more insignificant type ship. Nothing about it says “toughest/fastest “. Its just such a massive design letdown when you have a history of trek having such amazing designs shown in all the shows. And how does a show like this reach the end and suddenly NEED a ship design NOW and not know this before hand? (I hated 99% of Picard. So disappointing). This review was nice so we could actually see the ship for once and I appreciate it a bit more. Its not horrible. But it’s nowhere close to the amazing work and loving designs from past shows ships. They would have been better to just have old ship designs warp in...sovereigns and prometheus and akiras. And then threw in these guys scattered in here and there around them to show that new ships are there as well. Simple solution. Oh well. Show was a massive let down. Maybe Q will snap it all into non existence.
It seems that ship design was supposed to be a large freighter initially. It makes more sense in that way if you think the deflector area as being a large Cargo bay door. BTW, Q will return in Season 2, so maybe your wish will be fulfilled.
Well I Order Mines and yes it was great but there some flaws ok yes Wish they made it better but I love it thank you again great Job Reviews I mean That y I got it Love to see the Firepower on this ship speed and crews how much can she hold u olny saw small part of her ok (v)anny aka Mando Massachusetts Boston 🥺🙏🏽🙏🏽😇😇😇🌞🤔🤔🤔🥰
Didn't the text say that he had these designs prepared before? But as a background freighter design? He was just asked to send them again within the hour, they already had decided that they would go with one of the three design he presented before.
@@slighter Thats true, thoug it feels rushed. John eaves is one of the best designers, they should've given him more time to develop a starship that's commanded by riker. A worthy ship to follow up the enterprise - e
better than the 5 minutes they had to design the ships for STD season 3..... yeet!! I couldn't resist sorry.. I think its a shame that they didn't want to show any star fleet ships until something at the very end of production changed their mind... I guess they wanted a last minute space battle.. but surly they must have known that all us nerds wanted to see were some cool new federation ships :D
I didn't like the copy paste fleet, it was as lazy as all the Discovery shuttles everywhere. But one way to explain this is that after the Borg and Dominion conflicts, Starfleet created a rapid response fleet of near identical ships that could be readied and deployed to confront potential threats on short notice. That does make sense although I won't give the show credit for thinking that through
I don't think that the ship is controversial, the shows definetly... I think this looks like a logical design lineage for a branch of star fleet ships feels very prometheus/Akira class, minus any weapons lol the concept art was great... its funny that when you see a lot of the old trek concept art its very much like this quite harsh straight lines, then its like someone "Berman probably" asks them to soften it up a bit.. where as the harsher look is where we're going now... I did like that the design team were all sat thinking surly they are going to want some star fleet ships in at some point?? even though the production were saying nope!!! until the very last minute..... at least someone there knows what they are doing haha
Ship as you flip it "oooOOOOO--" "--aaaaawww." You can really see he had little time for the ship. The bottom side had to be half assed for that. Shame, but an unsurprising for the Kurtzman era.
That bridge area reminds me of Galaxy Quest
I honestly really like it. It’s like Starfleet industrial design. It’s different, unique, and I can’t help but like the thing!

it's a shame these designs were 'rushed' into service, it would have been great to see all three of them with their proper curves and silhouettes. At the end of season 1 picard, they all did seem too.... polygonal for my aesthetical tastes. But ahh well, maybe they can retconn it later :)
I sorta like her, but in the end I give her a 6.5/10
Thanks for getting me hooked on these Star Trek ships 180 of the damn things, thanks alot,
Only kidding it's a great collection thanks for your videos, starting the online versions now, so far top quality ships, Aliens are popping up here and there around the games room, Battlestar Galatica is here to
:)
Looks like it could hang in a fire fight for eternity. Interesting ship, looks like it was designed purely for war.
The titan would be decades old though,
If all of that weathering is just going through dust clouds, then their navigational deflector isn't working properly lol. Even at sublight speeds, striking particles of dust in space would put holes all throughout the ship. I'm just going off of what Trek has already explained, so that's not just me babbling off.
Did you mean dorsal side at 3:50?
Yes ;)
Ordered 2
THE BEST LOOKING SHIT OF STARTREK EVER.
Knowing that that’s a massive cargo/shuttle bay in the front, the ship now reminds me of a whale shark swimming with its giant mouth open.
That's the navigational deflector array, not a cargo or shuttle bay.
That grill looks like it came out of a 1950s vehicle.
Is the channel over ?
Okay fine and danny another must have to get !
That deflector design really kills the aesthetics of the ship.
It looks like the magazine calls "Captain" Riker, "Admiral" Riker
He is leading a fleet.
Everything about this ship is awesome minus the deflector. That’s a fugly deflector.
Unpopular opinion: if this is as advanced, powerful, resilient and just plain badass as Riker says it is, then there's nothing to stop this class from featuring the latest Enterprise NCC-1701-F.
Looks like an upgraded Arbiter
Interesting.
The copy and paste crit is ironic, in that back in the 60s OS there was only 1 conny in the ships of the line. And when Discovery brought in diversity in Ship design the same snootyness ensues. We can only have Diversity in the correct age on the Star Trek timeline. ;D
fwiw I made this comment before you spoke of it in the Video. haha
I thought they were trying to make bigger ships, but this thing looks smaller than a Sovereign class.
The USS Zheng He aka USS Copy and Paste.
Bad ass design - only thing I'm not to keen on is the boxy shape of defllector area :{
USS Zheng He(鄭和)---i really don't know where they translated from ..........(Mandarin Chinese may be???........)
P.S. your pronunciation is very good BTW!!!
I think you mounted it wrong based on the instructions in the magazine
Nope, instructions are wrong.
6:27 THERE ARE FOUR LIGHTS!!!!!!!!!
Last minute half-fucked up design.
Nice ship but needs color, starfleet delta and UFP.
Well I Order Mines and yes it was great but there some flaws ok yes
Wish they made it better but I love it thank you again great Job Reviews I mean
That y I got it Love to see the Firepower on this ship speed and crews how much can she hold u olny saw small part of her ok (v)anny aka Mando
Massachusetts Boston 🥺🙏🏽🙏🏽😇😇😇🌞🤔🤔🤔🥰
It's ridiculous they gave John eaves just an hour to come up with something
Didn't the text say that he had these designs prepared before? But as a background freighter design? He was just asked to send them again within the hour, they already had decided that they would go with one of the three design he presented before.
@@slighter Thats true, thoug it feels rushed. John eaves is one of the best designers, they should've given him more time to develop a starship that's commanded by riker. A worthy ship to follow up the enterprise - e
@@robbievanleeuwen355 I'm sure me Eaves is familiar with show production, things are always notoriously tight.
better than the 5 minutes they had to design the ships for STD season 3..... yeet!! I couldn't resist sorry.. I think its a shame that they didn't want to show any star fleet ships until something at the very end of production changed their mind... I guess they wanted a last minute space battle.. but surly they must have known that all us nerds wanted to see were some cool new federation ships :D
@@Ma55ey The Discovery ships are clearly designed over a longer period of time. Why do you think they rushed these ones?
Not sure if that's a deflector dish, or a massive launch bay. Would rather have this ship in the original collection size
It seems like the Ship is suppose to be like a Knife. It looks like it is meant to stab.
It looks liked star ship of garitis
She looks like she is designed for Atmospheric Flight.
Ship as you flip it
"oooOOOOO--"
"--aaaaawww."
You can really see he had little time for the ship. The bottom side had to be half assed for that. Shame, but an unsurprising for the Kurtzman era.
It's an Akira class that they just changed a few angles in. Not exactly original!
