Vinyl passed down from me mother. Grandmother saw a talented young jazz drummer play this catchy tune on Ed Sullivan show and wrote a letter inquiring. TV program sent her the LP. Upon listening, declared it of the devil and pitched it in the rubbish. My mother retrieved this wonderful piece of music. Thanks for the upload.
I can remember as a kid, way back in the 90's, this was the first vinyl record I ever listened to. My dad put it on a turntable and cranked it up. I still remember sitting on the couch holding the LP sleeve and looking at the cover trying to figure what the circular blobs of color melting together meant. I had no idea psychedelic rock was at that point in life but I sure did like what I was hearing. This was my glorious introduction to 60's/ 70's rock. Little did I know this one song was just the very tip of the iceberg.
I hope he introduced you to some of my favorites: Emerson Lake and Palmer, Led Zeppelin, the Doors, Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd, Journey….so many more……was good stuff!
The drumming was my favorite part of the song. My brother and I both played drums and we would get together and try our best to copy it. Not to bad sometimes. Miss you bro.
I remember my uncle always playing this song between the time I was three and five years old way back around 1971-1973. He gave me the album when I was 8 in 1976. I used to call it "The Spooky Record".
Possibly the best upload of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. Even though there's a general "lossy" feel of the drum tracks, everything else hangs in the balance. Congratulations. Well done.
RIP Ron Bushy...we boomers have lost too many musical treasures in the past few years...this song will always define my first year of Junior High School...a true rock classic!
I was born in 85...why is the 60s stuff so much better? I love metal now but man, if it wasn't for some of this 60s stuff it wouldnt be a thing. This had to been heavy as hell in the 60s.
started listening Iron Butterfly in 1969 (at the age of 15). have ofcourse all their LPs. remember me dancing alone like a weirdo at a "Rockpalast" this song in 1972 in Germany. I just hope youngsters listen to this music.
During September 1968, a group toured Scandinavia as "The New Yardbirds", performing some old Yardbirds material as well as new songs such as "Communication Breakdown", "I Can't Quit You Baby", "You Shook Me", "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" and "How Many More Times". The month after they returned to England, October 1968, Jimmy Page changed the band's name to Led Zeppelin, and the group entered Olympic Studios in London to record their debut album. IRON BUTTERFLY's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida", the title track of their second album, became a Top 30 hit (edited down to 2:52) in the US and made the number 9 spot on the Dutch Top 40. The album was awarded a gold disc by the R.I.A.A. in December 1968 and had sold over three million copies by the end of 1970. It ultimately sold over 20 million copies, went platinum, and stayed on the Billboard magazine charts for over a year. HA! The original "Heavy Metal" after IRON BUTTERFLY
This song give me heavy metal sensations; this song is strange, I never heard it and give me vibes like Deep Purple and Black Sabbath at some point. I even fell a bit of Saint Vitus here@@loudmind68
When I first heard this song I was driving on a highway in 1992. I never got married, but if I did I decided that this would be my wedding song. Love the extended version.
God I just love how that main organ riff sounds with the right hand chord with that heavy sounding reverb here. I also like how this version is pitched up maybe a half step
I was 7 when this was released. Now, I'm 59 going on 60 and I still like this. When I'm 90, I'll be in a wheelchair saying: 'Iron Butterfly', that was the big band sound! The crap these kids listen to these days is just that; crap! :-)
it's unfortunate for all of those who never heard the vinyl version of this composition. during the drum solo, double-track phasing (or flanging) is introduced, giving the drums that unique whooshing sound, the same type sound as heard after jimi's guitar solo on "axis: bold as love", or the small faces' "itchycoo park", status quo's "pictures of matchstick men", or the ending arpeggios from shuggie otis' guitar on his version of "strawberry letter 22". it's too bad that today's analog-to-digital transfers have technologically reduced the original phased (or flanged) strength to barely perceptible on this version as well as all of the youtube offerings of this 17 minute classic from 1968 - so far. but, from the comments it would appear that the song can still hold court, minus the intended enhanced production.
Even though this song is slightly before my time. Back in my high school days in the 80's every Friday night me and my friends would go out. While driving we listen to tunes. One day I stumbled along this gem. Introduce it to those same friends. I became there music god...
Legend has it that the original lyrics were written as "In The Garden Of Eden". But they never survived the drug and alcohol influenced jam sessions. lol
That is what legend states, and you are very possibly right. Doug Ingle (the lead vocalist of this classic) stated he simply could not keep up with the song's pace so he improvised the pronunciation. Gee! I wonder why? LOL
+Rockonrick51 interesting thought,,, BUT a good Latin translation of "In a Gadda Da Vida" is "In THE Garden, of Life". That is to say the garden of Eden, so that seems to be the best explanation of the title, not the drugie one.
Geez, haven't u people ever tripped on acid? U know how hard it is to say shit when you got all this spittle in your mouth and your fuckin tongue is a centipede.
I'm 65 years old. I remember the first time i drooped acid. I'm 65 years old I remember the first time I dropped acid. I'm 65 years old I remember the first time I drooped acid...................
Just heard this in a Season 9 Seinfeld episode - thought it was Spinal Tap initially - similar sound... Hubby also recognised it from the Simpsons! Fun :-)
very very well..................................................................................................................................................
Top 5 for sure. Off of the top of my head Moby Dick gives this one a good run for the money. I understand personal preference. That being said, I like Moby Dick better. In no way, shape, or form am I saying that I don’t like this song. It is just incredible. You may also take a look at a song called Hocus Pocus by Focus. It’s interesting and talented for its time. And a Welsh band called the Budgies. I hope you check them out and enjoy!!
Is it Satan who is saying take my hand , walk this land to Adam and Eve? or Eve to Adam or Adam to Eve? or Satan to Eve? Wow now I'm tripping Thanks Bills!
Actually, Doug Ingle wrote the song while drinking a gallon of Red Mountain wine. When he played the song for Bushy (who was writing down the lyrics) he slurred his words so badly that Bushy interpreted "in the Garden of Eden" as "In-A-Godda-Da-Vida" ... and it stuck.
I'm saddened when I hear this... ALL MY OLD ORANGE SUNSHINE CREW HAVE PASSED THROUGH THIS LAND. WELL I'M GUESSING PURPLE HAZE HAD THE BEST HAND! RIP TERRY TAYLOR (MUSTANG MAN) OF MUNCIE, INDIANA VINE STREET..

Hey Marge. Remember when we used to make out to this hymn?
eres la clave
By I. Ron Butterfly. 😎
Melanie Mills Wait. This is rock and/or roll
17 minutes long!
Song was just right for Partying.
Someone of culture made it here same as me.
...wait a minute this sounds like rock and/or roll
@ChronoWind it's a Simpsons reference when this song was featured on an episode.
Back in the day this was known as hard, or acid, rock.
ChronoWind this is heavy but definitely not that heavy/ dark
I love this church song
Ah so I see you are too a man of culture
The drumming was my favorite part of the song. My brother and I both played drums and we would get together and try our best to copy it. Not to bad sometimes. Miss you bro.
R.I.P. to your brother. I'm sorry for your loss, but also glad you have such fond memories together. That's awesome.
The intro still gives me chills! One of the heaviest and greatest jams of all time!!
Masterpiece!!!
I still have this legendary IRON BUTTERFLY album on LP.
😺👍
Me to
In 1969 through 1972 we danced to this long version at our high school sock hops in Huntington Beach, CA ☮️😎✌️
2021 and this song is as powerful now as it was when I first heard it decades ago
This is exactly how I feel about it!
I have been listening to it since I was 5 years old 1980 I was born in 75
@@joannajamerson35 Hi Joanna , that is great! I listened for the first time when I was 14. My son was three years old when he played all my singles.
I remember my uncle always playing this song between the time I was three and five years old way back around 1971-1973. He gave me the album when I was 8 in 1976. I used to call it "The Spooky Record".

Con esta balada de Rock , me hace recordar mi juventud en el año 1969, estudiando mi primer año de secundaria.. ahora soy 70 años cumplidos.
The guitarist was just 17 when this was recorded.. a lovely, simple love song...
RIP Ron Bushy...we boomers have lost too many musical treasures in the past few years...this song will always define my first year of Junior High School...a true rock classic!

Partly because the people were Baby Boomers!
Oh my ❤❤❤❤❤ I have this on vinyl!!!! I'm so excited to see it?
Klein ich war und stolz diesen klassiker ein Leben lang zu hören , bis zur Rente .😙😙😙😙😙😙😎
_Gerade eben lese ich, dass der Sänger verstorben ist._

We do, trust me we do.

This is not original heavy metal, is acid rock, maybe near to original progressive rock, but not heavy metal
This song give me heavy metal sensations; this song is strange, I never heard it and give me vibes like Deep Purple and Black Sabbath at some point. I even fell a bit of Saint Vitus here@@loudmind68
Bits and Pieces by DC5, Surfing bird by the Trashmen, or perhaps Bo Diddley chug. All heavy with great bassy bottom.
A true masterpiece
Bart Simpson nailed it! Introduced the sixties wig-out to a whole new generation. 😎
Smoking to this song right now. Illinois went legal finally!!!!!!! Not paying those dispensary prices tho
Our next hymn is In the garden of Eden by I.Ron Butterfly
Wait a minute...this sounds like Rock and or roll
This is real hard rock. When hard rock was great. Iron butterfly. Cream. Hendrix. Led Zeppelin. Who.
Vanilla Fudge. Blind Faith
ozzy osbourne
Just missed woodstock, dang-nabit.
Now that is Rock.
When I first heard this song I was driving on a highway in 1992. I never got married, but if I did I decided that this would be my wedding song. Love the extended version.
My Fureral song. For Sure
There's an extended version? Ffs are they still playing it!?
God I just love how that main organ riff sounds with the right hand chord with that heavy sounding reverb here. I also like how this version is pitched up maybe a half step
This sounds like rock and or roll
it was during the late 70's where almost every rock song had extended guitar solos and the funny thing is people actually liked it
i am one of the people who LIKE it! :D
Why is it funny that people enjoy extended guitar solos?
This came out in 1968.
simpons!!
One of the very best pshycadeli 60s songs ever recorded!!!!
🐼 Big Bear Hugs from a 67 yr old grandma in Kirby, Texas, USA 🐼.....
We all love you grandma!
Песнь песней...с 70 года слушаю....мантра она такая.....всё вракт что написали сп'яну....чёткие структуры...четверти.....вещь на все времена😅

Love the long version. I remember the version on my 8 track was much shorter. Wish I still had that 8 track, and that car.
May be the best song ever, defiantly the best of Iron Butterfly.
Listen at 1.25 speed, and it sounds more like the Simpsons version.
Amo, amo demais... Essa música e única, originalissima, e esse wolo de bateria ... 🥰🥰🥰

One of the best. Simple yet elegant 😎
Always come back to this masterpiece on late nights
Even though this song is slightly before my time. Back in my high school days in the 80's every Friday night me and my friends would go out. While driving we listen to tunes. One day I stumbled along this gem. Introduce it to those same friends. I became there music god...

Ford Danniel I see that years of drug abuse has not aided your typing skills.
When performed on Amercan Bandstand the lyrics where clearly In the garden of eden baby.
Can you imagine how the chuch lady played the drum part in organ??
Our parents really knew how to have great time...
The Halloween episode of Home improvement where Tim and Jill scared their 3 sons as a Halloween prank brought me here.
Tim is all wrapped up in Xmas lights
EL MEJOR SOLO DE BATERÍA DE TODOS LOS TIEMPOS EN VERDAD, ESTUPENDO !!!
Probably the greatest r&b rock ballad ever composed.
R&B??? Ballad? Are you crazy? This is full Acid rock
Your close baby, I will take your hand

Anyone else remember when Bart pranked the congregation with this song then sold his soul on the Simpsons!
The drum solo is the best!

and a sneaky weapon to use on your enemies...
Time to time I prefer shrooms, but hell LSD is something
Nighmare on ElmStreet Freddy is Dead
I consider Dug Ingle's organ solo (2:09 - 3:16) to be one of the most beautiful passages of music I've ever heard. Opinion of a 70-year-old. :)
Manhunter brought me here ! Tom noonan..amazing performance
A CLASSIC SONG IS BEAUTIFUL.... MY REGARDS....

the best of the best...
Just heard this in a Season 9 Seinfeld episode - thought it was Spinal Tap initially - similar sound... Hubby also recognised it from the Simpsons!
Fun :-)
very very well..................................................................................................................................................
Iron butterfly, redundant because itd never fly, i love it!
Same premise as LED ZEPPELIN
The ultimate example of the 60s sound IMO.
It's the only song I can play on the drums. I figured if they did it drunk, I could learn it too.
My dance performance group is doing a number to this song choreography by our amazing professor.
i would love to see the video. I bet it was really fun to do.
Admirable la resistencia del baterista no pierde el ritmo
RIP Dear Ron! 😢
i CAN REMEMBER one day that I will never forget that can never be recaptured....goodbye, my love, goodbye....
By far the best drum solo ever !!!
used to sit in class in high school and beat the drum beat on my note book.....decided i needed 3 hands...
I would also like to add that, in my opinion Bonhams solo is much more structured. And if you were going by bpm... Moby Dick would take the cake
I sang this song in church once. 17 minutes later the organ lady died.
Listen to the classic drum solo!
I like to much the enanced sound (or distorted, if the case) of this uploading. Thankyou for sharing.
Time to join the Archaic Revival church and find the gada da vida....again
In a gadda da vida is how they said in the garden of eden while tripping on acid... I just changed your whole perception of this song!
They wrote this while on acid.
Is it Satan who is saying take my hand , walk this land to Adam and Eve? or Eve to Adam or Adam to Eve? or Satan to Eve? Wow now I'm tripping Thanks Bills!
It means "In the garden of love."
.
And it was Iron Butterfly who did it..
LIKE COOL, GROOVEY,HIP AND HEAVY MAN.
You forgot FAR OUT MAN.
Timeless!
Hey Spence, let's trip out...
Bart Did It!
Reverend Lovejoy: Bart, you're coming with me for punishment! You too Snitchy!
