Hey Paul. Most people have told you about the proper horn order at level crossings. When going into stations, the bell should be on until you come to a stop. Once you leave you turn it on until you're out of the station. The "no whistle sign" is because you're in a residential area to reduce noise pollution. Hope that helps. :)
The Rail Road that built most of these stations was the Seaboard Air Line, in the mid to late 20's, and they had a Spanish style for most of their stations, and the long platforms are meant for the Amtrak Silver Meteor, and Silver Star
In the South Florida area you have 3 Class Bravo (major airports), West Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, and Miami. There are also a lot of smaller airports.
Hey Paul, that train you saw at 10 minutes was an Amtrak, they go long distances, like one goes from California to Washington while your train was a local line
Joe Swanson i thought it was a metro
TheBigB0505 Joe is correct.
Joe Swanson It's an Amtrak. He is correct.
Yes and some of the cars are for food and some for bed
Ian Ward Of course.
oh, and the horn for level crossings in north america... long long short long, holding the final long until your engine crosses the crossing.
same rule for both passenger and freight, and all railroads.
(some areas are quiet zones by local noise ordinance)
Also, keep your bell on when pulling in and departing stations.
Well that's the standard, sure. The one-crossing town where my parents live, they usually just do one solid blast for the three miles approaching the crossing, especially at night. Once in a while some busybody will complain enough that corporate will tell 'em to knock it off for a while, and they obey the standard for a couple weeks. Then back to solid blast. Eh, no big deal, pretty soon you get used to it, hardly notice them passing by.
I usually hear one long then two shorts and one long over the crossing.
20:40 You are completely correct! We have close to no hills here in Florida and the ones we do have are not very big.
How many airports u got there
Tafari Thompson Around 60 or 66 airports in florida, I didn't know the exact number. I googled "number of airports in florida" one thing I found said "66 airports found in Florida".
Tafari Thompson Depends. Do you consider private fields too? Or just government regulated airfields?
That's a lie, you obviously never been to north Florida then lol.
+Robert “rdecker53096” Decker international airports
By the way, Tri-Rail trains usually have three or four cars. I've only seen five cars a handful if times -- and it had two engines pulling it.
Aye.
its long long short long, keep up the train videos paul and the great work!
Woo! Resident of Deerfield Beach here. The gates here go up pretty much after the train passes them so seeing that car going over the tracks while the train is still at the station is rather accurate. Sadly no deers here though
Wow... This is pretty surreal. lol! I live in this area. In fact, I work at the TV station just across the street from your first West Palm Beach stop! Someone may have already commented, but those "fancy villas" you saw rolling up to the station is a water treatment plant. The rail service that makes those rounds is called Ti-Rail. It serves South Florida's three southern counties: Palm Beach County (where West Palm Beach is), through Broward County, and into Dade County (home of Miami).
18:35 Squirrel goes straight for the drivers jugular!
That's so cool! I take the train from Boca Raton to West Palm Beach every day and this scenery is really accurate. A little weird to see squirrel driving route home!
We are sorry the driver missed the platform he was to busy looking at the totty lol.
nice one Paul top video.
I live right along that route. Love seeing all the trains pass by. Glad you enjoyed the run! By the way, it's called the Tri-Rail because it passed through three different counties: Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade.
your driving is a tri-rail train and it serves palm beach and miami as a commuter but the stations actually look like that as well throughout the tricounty area
Im from wpb
The limit of 79 was because federal regulations require that every train traveling above 79 mph must have in cab signaling
Also, the “nothing but oranges” was probably a reference to Tropicana, a large juice company that operates out of Florida
I've seen the bell used as "MOVE!!! WE'RE ARRIVING!!!" and "BYE!!!!!"
That building at 7:03 is a water treatment facility. ....I'm impressed with the details in this sim
The other passenger train might of been the Amtrak which is interstate
Yes correct.
Love this WPB to Miami series... Looks just like it does in person! I live in Boca Raton and take this route frequently.
Great vid. This is the run I use to do about a 2 years ago to get to work. All looks great with the locations and styles. They did a great job. The big round building at the west palm beach station is the water plant. That's where I use to get off. Wish there was some more traffic on the hi way (interstate 95 )
The speed limit is 79 because 80 requires in cab signaling
Happy to see a Miami video because I recognize the scenery
6:16 dat ghost car.
7:00 that on the right side looks a coliseum, like the Spanish and Portuguese ones we use for ''tourada''. Chasing bulls on horses, piercing them on the back while on horse and taking the bull by the horns, literally.
Can confirm as others have said, the actual signal for crossing at grade is two long blasts of a horn, a short, and then a sustained long until you enter the intersection. If I recall correctly, a bell is only used at low speed while moving.
Yup, Florida is really like this. Flat as a fritter, and the roads are long, straight, and wide. The highest point in the whole state is only 345 ft. above sea level.
My teacher told me that nobody would pay me to look out a window. Guess I proved him wrong! Lol. Train jokes....
thanks you Squirrel for another TS2015 video, i do really enjoy those, dont know why i just do :) this is my favorite series.
Take care and stay safe :)
Squirrel I think we can all agree your vids are AMAZING!!!!
how can you not anticipate what the length of the platform will be when the green area on the profile window shows how long it is
altern8ive exactly! :)
altern8ive I hate when the green doesn't line up with the platform. You have no idea how many times my passengers are on the green, but the doors don't work.
12/ten Design it only depends on if you slow down early then you will be able to stop weather it's spontaneous or not.
The doors will only open if the cart is fully inside the platform. The stations are so tiny, one cart will always be outside a bit and TS won't open the doors.
Level Crossing whistle is long long short long as I'm sure people have said.
It's 2 longs a short and a long, and bell is typically used on crossings and stations
East Texas Railfan bell isnt used on crossings here
So glad you did this one of my favorite routes because I’ve rode that train.
Squirrel that big road at 13:33 is actually the highway that's the I-95 that runs from Maine (last state on the east coast before Canada) to Downtown Miami. In real life that route which most known has Tri-Rail will be parralel to the I-95 until you reach Golden Glades Station.
These types of desil engines are my favorite
I hear that whistle every morning, and that train seems just like GO trains.
Aristle same models that's for sure!
Oh yeah, i was thinking that too, the GO trains in Toronto. I didn't think that anyone would mention it.
Yep, that's the older style of GO locos with the same double decker cars, the only difference is that the GO trains are 10 car and 1 loco
GO and Tri-Rail are partnered.
Hey Paul! talking to you from New Zealand.
I think the other train had more carriages because they were not double deckers. So you had 5 and the other train had 9 but in the long run you have more people that can fit on your train! Also love the videos and keep up the hard work!
I love trains planes and automobiles.
Fish Dead Okay.
Fish Dead i love that movie :D
Leprechaun Plays yup, one of the best :)
ye i love the bet were they nearly get hit by that truck :( but the tubby one died RIP
Leprechaun Plays haha ” your going the wrong way!!" Yeah man Rip, one of my favourite actors
Squirrel, the horn is actually long-long-short-long, not long-short-long-long, for future reference. Not a big deal but in case you were curious. Have tracks running about 3/4 mile from my house, have a lot of freight come through. Hear em all the time
living in west palm and riding the trirail many times, and watching u ride by, the similarity of the scenery is nice. at 7am i95 is pretty full with traffic.
Squirrel: Bell for leaving and arriving.
Crossing: 2 long, 1 short, 1 Long
Europe Crossing: 1 long, 1 Short, 1 Long
I ride this route irl super often from mangonia park all the way to Miami airport really often. It's about a 2 hour ride! This is really accurate too
Miami has many airports, Pompano Beach, West Palm Beach, Palm Beach County, Boca Raton Airport, and Miami International, among others. most are off of 95 there though
I know you have several answers, but the horn must sound from the sign until the FIRST locomotive enters the crossing, and generally until it passes completely through. You had the bell correct, it rings all the way through and when reversing. If the locomotive has ditchlights (2 small lights down on the front under the nose) they should be flashing while passing through a crossing. Another thing, as stated about the train with more coaches at 10:00 being Amtrak, that is why the top speed is 79mph, Amtrak operates the main passenger service and their speed limit is 79mph. Those short platforms don't need to be long as they are used for locals, like you. I love your videos, particularly the Train Simulator ones. I hope you go back and do some more 3 Country Corner and would love if you would do the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge RR. (It is on the gold list for railroads and is #1 or #2 in N. America, it is available from www.drhs315.org/blog/drhs-shop/ds-train-sim/ ). The line is famous for its narrow rock ledge (350-400 feet above a raging river, its scenic mountain views, and the fact that it has been operating with the same steam engines since 1923/1925, and is still 100% coal fired today. This is for if you ever need whistle/horn codes for North & South America -- STOP - 1 long blast -- START-2 Blasts -- CROSSING/TUNNEL - Long, Long, Short, Long blasts -- REVERSE- 3 short blasts -- PRIVATE/Dirt Road/Driveway - 1 Long, 1 short
Paul the reason the train that passed you was longer is bigger because it is an Amtrak train. They do long distances like BritishRail cervices across England. You were driving a Commuter Train service for the Miami region. It is for the Miami region what the London Overground is for London. Or the S-Bahn for German city centres.
With the long Amtrak train that you met coming southbound, you didn't get ripped off. It was being pulled by a double stack of P42DC's because the P42DC is a piece of junk. The older F40 is a better locomotive, and one of them could have pulled those 9 carriages by itself.
The building at 7:00 is the West Palm Beach city water treatment plant. The sim for this route is kind of messed up as there are a lot more crossings without a whistle than is simulated. Reason for that is because city governments paid to enhance the crossings so residences wouldn't have to hear the horn of 50+ trains a day. Source: I live in West Palm Beach.
Yes Squirrel. Welcome to Florida. The flattest state in the US
Not so. Central and north Florida has many hills
There are parts of that Corredor that are quiet zones and what it is is that specific community requested that of the rail road because since it is a mix of passenger and free if it wasn’t a quiet don’t need to have trans honk and constantly which would get pretty dang all pretty dang quick so that’s why
can you imagine if real train drivers shouted out there window "good morning " at the crossings
The big round building is the water treatment plant
Wow, that's very close to the real thing. I live in that area and have seen and ridden that train many times. It's the tri-rail line
Great video as always! And yes all of Florida is ridiculously table top flat. Its one reason for some of the drainage ditches along the route. Rain won't run off much and the water table is very close to the surface....and Boca Raton /ˈboʊkə rəˈtoʊn :)
Squirrel
Great video!
Please do a video with the PRR Sharknose. Even though I'm German and love Great Britain, American TS-videos are the most appealing to me.
X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X I've seen people from everywhere with railfanning videos in the US I think it's cause we have a great variety of cars and locomotives compared to other countries railroads.
1- Your train is small because its a commuter, the amtrak at west palm beach station is a long distance train. And also, your train is a cart too long.
2- You should be able to get the cab and all carts in one station, but yours couldnt because you have 5 carts and 1 driver, they usually have 3-4 carts with 1 cab.
3- Boca Raton BOH-Cah Ra-TONE
this is sooooo cool, i live in west balm beach so it is awesome watching a video of you playing a game based on my area
fun video, in north america the train signal for crossings is 2 long 1 short and a final long that lasts true the crossing. . Entertaining as always Squirrel
I took the Amtrak Empire Builder to Seattle Washington and when it went through Montana it was nothing but dead nuts straight flat track.
You're on a local train called Tri-Rail.....Miami to West Palm. .....they are in talk about extending it to Orlando, maybe further.
You were driving the tri-rail train and the passenger train that passed you was Amtrak. Lived there most my life
Squirrel The first airport was likely Palm Beach (C) and the second was Boca Raton (D) or Ft. Lauderdale Hollywood (C) These are all major airports outside of the KMIA Bravo Airspace.
Those aren't Big Macs... they only have two part buns. Big Macs have three part buns.
The new locomotives are actually very quite inside. I've ran a few that you have to dang near open the windows to hear the horn blow. Yes I am a conductor/engineer.
I have done that same exact route Squirrel I have travelled with Tri-Rail around 30 times lol
I guess Amtrak East coast doesn't have commuter lines, after looking through some of the comments. Out in California, we have the corridor Amtrak that runs from the lower valley to Sacramento everyday.
Paul for the crossings its two long toots of the horn then on short toot then one long haul and hold it until you cleard the crossing
Actually, I believe in the US the horn pattern for crossings are 2 Long, 1 Short, then a Long
At around 27 minutes in you mentioned using Google maps and other resources to increase accuracy of maps. If I'm not wrong, I THINK there is actually a setting to overlay Google maps in the editor... :]
Paul your trip was 60-75 miles in length so you weren't in Miami until the last part of the trip. Palm Beach county is huge and then you have awhile to go before you get into Dade county. I went to high school there and my sister lives near Lake Worth.
Thats incredible! I live in West Palm Beach! Never thought Id see it in a game
think one of those might be Orlando or Ft. Lauderdale or something like that. I know they're in that area somewhat.
Love TS2015
The second airport you saw was Boca Raton airport. And if you need a good reference point for the rail lines down the eastern seaboard follow Interstate 95.
As for the canals, they're all over the place down here to provide drainage and flood control. South Florida is historically a wetland.
you know what would be cool if train simulator 2015 and plane simulator 2015 were in the same place what i mean is that there career mode were in the same place
The airport at Boca Raton, pronounced like Boka Rah tone is to the left of I-95 as will be Fort Lauderdale Intl when you get down there.
That's such a beautiful train.
3:10 its actually 2 longs, then 1 short, then 1 very long one in america but you kind of got it right.
Proper whistle sequence in us is Long Long Short Long. last long is held until locomotive passes through the crossing.
Hey that's my train CSX 7858!!!
steve walker wow1
ESjuoja53 yes
You are correct about the bell, the propper way to do the horn is 2 longs, 1 short, and another long. Btw, great videos!!
2 Long 1 short 1 long
Squirrel, in Kent there is a long piece of straight track between Tonbridge and Ashford.
Great video Paul!
Under 301 club, and nice video, as always squrriel, mate!
The train you passed was an Amtrak train, using a different loco (GE Genesis). Yours is a GE F40 with Bombardier carriages.
XXDahlXXAjd041 EMD makes the F40, not GR
GE*
You do get palm trees in Cornish stations :)
Thanks for doing west palm beach
11:28 that is KPBI West Palm Beach International
Squirrel, the horn protocol is Two long before the crossing, then a short about to pass it, and then a long passing the crossing. Also, if it is a silent area, just use the bell ( use bell for both horn areas and silent areas) btw keep up the good videos! :)
My home, You drove a tri-rail commuter rail, and the horn code is 2 long, 1 short, 1 long to take it through the crossing
i have been on this exact route before my grandmother has a house in Ft Laurdale and i rode it from there to miami and back
Paul great vid as usual. I bought train sim whilst it was on offer after watching your vids. Keep up the good work #YOTS
Thats a pretty cool map Im going to have to download it and try it. I'm working on the SP Donner pass scenario now.
Oh I’ve seen them but will not see them but I’ve seen actual RUclips videos of them and yes surprisingly they are almost that quiet I don’t know how it’s done but it’s done and I think it also has something to do with the humidity in the air which is muffles the sound
I live there. Your on a tri rail. It's not Miami until the end. And those trains are generally 2-3 cars long
actually the horn goes 2 long, 1 short just before you get to the crossing, one long when you're going through the crossing paul.
miami has like 4 airports: fort lauderdale, miami intl, the one on the opposite side, and the executive
looks very nice layout
I am from West Palm Beach and the tri rail stations look exactly like that.
I actually take that amtrak train you saw at west palm beach....you were driving the tri rail
