It sounds to me as though the smooth voice of Dick Tufeld pretty much ruled ABC at this point, as we hear him announce the line up of new fall shows in his inimitable voice. I never put it all together, since these were my growing up years, how one voice could represent a network so thoroughly. l still love his intros for the ABC Movies of the Week. Gives me goosebumps. Thanks again for this trip back in time.
Thanks for letting me know. I like the Jack Benny program too. I specifically wanted to see the Mills Brothers performing "Cab Diver" and "My Shy Violet" though, those are two of my favorite songs, and they did them both on the HP episode.
A look at TV back when there was no such thing as "Reality TV". Thanks for the memories. BTW: for the curious, the long blank pause in the middle of the show was meant for local ABC affiliates to announce their station's call letters, for some local commercials & a news break.
Hey HP, This is a great copy of the show, especially the commercials. I am one of the lettermen appearing on the show and I would love to get a DVD copy of it. If you can point me in the right direction for a copy I would be eternally grateful. Thanks, Gary Pike
Maybe it's just revisionist history that Don Adams hated that "Maxwell Smart" voice, as he does the entire show in that persona. Also, a small laugh when he introduces "The Leathermen!" Funny slip of the tongue!
Any idea what the guy holding the clapper at the very beginning is referring to when he jokes about being in the Baltimore dressing room? Was this perhaps recorded right after a big game?
What a surprise to hear from one of the actual performers! I'd be happy to send you a copy-- check your youtube inbox for a message from me. Can I assume you have a copy of the Lettermen guest starring on the Jack Benny Show? It's an episode included in the current Jack Benny reruns on cable. On the off chance you don't have it, you should!
A wonderful show. Many thanks for posting!
The Lettermen are in top form, as always.

I hope you have the next episode, I want to see the Mills Brothers singing their great songs like "Cab Driver" and "My Shy Violet".
Tony Martin one of the most exciting singers of the day. Really?

She sang well.
