If HP lowers the cost of the upgrades and improves the keyboard, this would be a very compelling gaming laptop. Also, does anyone know if you can just yoink a 230W charger from a different laptop and use it with this? It looks like a standard barrel plug, but I don't have any other chargers on me at the moment. That could be a solution for anyone looking for more than 10 hours of full system load at a time.
It uses the same charger as the 9th gen, that maxed out at 200w and was sufficient to power my i9 9880h/ 2080MQ fine. Did you plug it into a killowatt meter and see what the power pull was from the socket? How many watts did you say the CPU pulls in performance mode when gaming ? The Omen x2s pulled upto 75w when gaming and that was probably one of the highest I have seen, so 75w + 80w for the 1660Ti plus the panel etc could get close to the 200w , and If I recall I saw draining on that too. I think much has to do with what PL1 they set and that seems to change when they update the command center and do BIOS updates. Was there a BIOS update for this? Also - did you try going into the BIOS and disabling the battery optimization option?

Mine is a Ryzen 7 4800H, GTX 1660Ti version and I've owned this laptop for about two weeks now (swapped it for a Razer 15) and wow, what a difference. Granted I do miss the all metal chassis of the Razer, but damn I gained quite a bit instead. The thermals, as you rightly point out, are extremely good; my keyboard deck barely gets warm even after hours of gaming whereas on my Razer you could probably cook a marshmallow on it. The keyboard is where I would disagree with you ever so slightly, as I find it quite delightful to type on and I use all my fingers. I understand this area is subjective but for me at least, I actually like what HP has done with the keyboard. And I've been getting a solid 3-4 hours on a single charge doing light productivity work, which dwarfs the 1 hour I was getting on the Razer. My discharge rate is much lower than the Razer, so good on HP (never thought I'd say that!). Good review man, keep it up! That new logo look sick...also the design is simplistic... this gonna be the first omen product that i wanna own. I hate the old logo, their gaming design.
I have the AMD Ryzen version of this laptop, and I love it. If I had any gripes with it at all, it would be the thunderbolt port placement, because my mouse sets right next to it, and if I need to charge my phone, or I'm running an external NVMe drive with the thunderbolt cable, it tends to get in the way. Otherwise, this laptop rocks. The keyboard is no problem for me and I use 9 fingers as my left thumb is idle while I type with the proper typing position otherwise. Excellent review.
Great review thanks. Small correction - the screen wobble is due to lack of rigidity, NOT lack of hinge friction - watch your video again the hinges don't move.

$1670 for i7 10750H, 16GB RAM, RTX2060, 60Hz screen is too expensive honestly. I have a Lenovo Y740 with i7 8750H, 16GB RAM, RTX 2070, and 144Hz screen and I remember its price is lower (in the US). For gaming, I don't think the i7 10750H will improve that significantly to justify this price. Also, the Legion 7i with similar specs is under $1400.
@@mr.flimflam3713 nice one. I can't understand how this Omen cost over $1500 for this specs, many laptop with RTX2060 or higher can be found between $1000-1500
I've got the last Gen laptop with the metal chassis, 9750h, 2070 and 240hz panel, and I've got to say that I got it for about £1440 and at that price it was about £600 cheaper than any equivalent from other brands my favourite choice being the blade 15 which was about £1000 more great value IMO
Hey! Great video! Two things: Could you check if the 2060 is the 115W variant? Also, Bestbuy has the 2060 version with a 300Hz screen for $1450, maybe check that one out? Thanks!

Yes, people, it'll play games at a fast speed. You won't be waiting long like some peasants with i3's and i5's. You can even open up pornhub really quick and close it, if that's what your worried about.
I do not agree. Gaming laptops by definition are meant for gaming. Numpad should be removed as well as any other clutter. One of the main reasons I picked the Omen 15 was that it had moved the arrow keys, so it was comfortable finding them and removed the numpad. As a programmer/animator/3d artist, who also uses the laptop for gaming, this is the right setup for me.
@@AidenIlkhani Gaming laptops are obviously made for gaming but the hardware it uses can easily be put to good use in other fields as well...workstations do have their place but getting them configured for rendering, 3d, animation is hectic
To this day I feel that this remains a controversial discussion.. Whether to have a numpad or not.. Personally, I'd go with tenkeyless because having a numpad shifts the WASD keys so far towards the left that I find myself positioning my left had in an awkward and uncomfortable position wherein my wrist or lower palm rests on the edge of the laptop instead of the wrist rest beside the trackpad.. A gaming laptop should be designed first and foremost for gaming, it can be designed to do more but never at the expense of its primary function..
For the price and what it offers, I’d advise you to go for another brand like legion 7i or 9th gen brand new razer blade 15 on sale or an alienware m15 r3. I have tested them all and the gs66 is kinda disappointing. Screen is good but not as bright as aw’s r3 and gs66 has the worse speaker among them. It also gets hot 95c-99c consistently under heavy loads. After undervolting it it drops to 85-88c but it’s not something I’m comfortable with given its price tag. My friend tried this omen for two weeks now and it’s quite good according to him, tho the build quality on the screen will worry you at some point. If you also go to microsoft website there is an i7 9th gen 2060 acer predator triton 500 brand new for $1.3k and I think that’s a steal. 9th gen and 10th gen has little to no noticeable difference in performance so the discounts for 9th gen laptops would be a great steal. Anyhow these are all my honest opinion from my experiences.
Kx Jake Hey thanks for the reply mate! I actually ended up ordering a gs66 2060 spec and currently awaiting its arrival. I went ahead with it because i’ll be using it for college and well my previous laptop was a dell g7 with a 1060. Honestly speakers and screen arent a huge issue for me. The main must haves for me are the good gpu, good cpu, refresh rate of the screen and the weight. For me personally the others seem a bit beefier and although i know there’s better deals out there, the gs66 seemed like the perfect choice and bang for your buck amongst the asus m15, razer blade 15 and the gs66. Screen brightness isnt a huge deal for me because the dell i had before worked just fine for what i needed it to and well this screen is def better than that 😂. But im also into a lotta gaming so the higher refresh rate was a must for me. Regarding the thermals, i know it def gets hot however i found a video by this RUclipsr, “Nexus” and he did all the undervolting for literally 5/6 games that i play and i was pretty happy with the thermals he got and how he went in depth. Also i use a cooling pad and im always in an air conditioned environment if im playing games etc. Nexus didnt use a cooling pad and he said his room temp was approx 24C. The reason i found it the best amongst the asus and razer was because the razer had the ram soldered onto the mobo which hindered the upgradability aspect as well as the thermals on that wasnt too good even after the padding from around the fan was removed. Also, the gs66 bios is what allowed for undervolting the 10th gen chip to be possible. Im not aware of any ways to do it on asus or razer. The razer just wasnt the spec i was looking for. I know the 1660ti isnt far off from the 2060 (about a 10% decrease over the 2060) but the razer i priced was the same $1599 as what i payed for the gs66. And the gs66 had the 240hz panel as opposed to the 144 on the razer. It just didnt seem worth it to me. Lenovos are amazing but they’re way too bulky for me. As well as the gs66 seemed much more low profile and sleek imo.
H2O PIays well said man! I totally agree with what you said because it suits your needs. As for me I ordered razer blade 15 because of the form factor and I got the 9th gen 1660ti and this build meets all my needs and this assures me somehow for its thermals. I was able to get a pretty sweet deal for $1099 brand new. Honestly, that’s why I went for it. I just can’t justify razer’s srp. Hope our decisions for our new laptops work for us and we’ll end up satisfied with our purchases. Cheers!
Kx Jake Holy hell! Thats a bomb of a deal mate! Yeah you’d be mad not to take that up haha. Razer’s srp is def insane but i did some reading and it seems like it’s because of the process the chassis go through to get the final look. Its really build quality thats being paid for the way i see it. And yes I sure do hope our decisions work for us! I must thank you for the recommendations though! Hopefully i can advise other laptop buyers i know thats looking for some steals. Cheers! 💪🏼
I do plan on it, but I'm kinda just reviewing laptops as I happen to get them so I don't really know when I'll have one for review. The one thing that stood out to me with the GS66 (and GE66) is the 99 watt hour battery. That should be close to an 8 hour battery. Big if true
Bought this early in June and it is an AMAZING replacement from my former and brick-like Alienware 17 R3. The battery really does hold up >10 hours of real-world usage, the Ryzen 7 CPU is the best in performance to price ratio, and I was able to upgrade to 32GB RAM and have 2 NVMe drives (512GB stock + 2TB intel 660) without gouging out my wallet ^___^
I mean, for a gaming laptop that is in the mid tier, it's pretty cheap. Mid tier from other companies like Razer starts around $1500, so this is actually a good deal. And if you catch this puppy on sale, you got yourself a pretty Xmas present.
@@waroogames You could say Razer is the Apple of gaming laptops, but actually they're kinda good. Razer products hold their value pretty well and their peripherals are very good. The laptops are meh, MSI or Asus are better, but they got pretty good and decent products.

I wouldn't recommend it for video Editing as it's too costly for video editing. You should go for Lenovo Legion Y540 as it's comparatively cheaper and can simply be used for heavy editing.
I got the AMD R5/1660ti variant and the only thing I have to complain about is the near 1 month shipping time. Other than that, I’m excited to be able to use heavy apps without much fear of thermal throttling.
So this isn’t the high end one? The one I was looking at was $1700. Is that just better internal specs cause I would like a better key travel. Also is the trackpad different?

great video. I don't game, but I'm looking for a trading laptop. The 144hz and 300hz refresh rates are actually completely different screens. You can choose to pay more to configure the laptop with those better screens. I also don't get to choose what spec I get to review, but I would recommend 144hz to most people.

That new logo look sick...also the design is simplistic... this gonna be the first omen product that i wanna own. I hate the old logo, their gaming design.

Question: Does the model you reviewed here have an intel processor or an AMD Ryzen processor?
Im wondering the same thing

AMD
Geoffrey fdo Oh man, I have a reply saying Intel and one saying AMD.
It's intel , amd one's don't have RGB lights I think

Plz do add the link to buying this laptop. Love your content.
Excellent review.
hey,do you think with proper care this laptop could go for 10 years? or there istn nay laptop that does that?
Great review thanks. Small correction - the screen wobble is due to lack of rigidity, NOT lack of hinge friction - watch your video again the hinges don't move.
Would you recommend this laptop for adobe creative cloud?
I'm mainly concerned about colours and comfort (heat and measurements).
I'v heard the Pavillon 17 has a good display but it's quite large and heavy...
hey did you find an answer or suggestion to this?
@@ShebaLover333 Well my girlfriend is happy with the pavillon 17. Display is great... but the size and weight is something to keep in mind if you need to take it with you on a regular basis.
I recently discovered you're reviews. They are quite informative and I think you do a great job. I'm in the market for a new laptop and your channel is very helpful. Thank you for the reviews!
Happy you like them!
You mentioned that the battery drains under load while gaming on a charger. How long does the laptop last under this?
Approximately 10 hours I believe
Quick question. I have the same laptop. My monitor frequency drops to 134hz on battery and is back to 300hz on charger. Is that normal?
I'm not certain but it should be normal, and it's good that it lowers to 134hz on battery, it'll last longer since 300hz consumes more power

i bought this Omen Black 3 weeks ago, with 2070 because is 8gb. I just will update this memory module for 2x32gb ddr4 3200mhz !! I really recommend
I have the same unit and mine cost me 1300$ USD.
They're getting out of stock...
Hey! Great video! Two things: Could you check if the 2060 is the 115W variant? Also, Bestbuy has the 2060 version with a 300Hz screen for $1450, maybe check that one out? Thanks!
Happy you liked it! Not really sure how to check, but the peak power draw I measured was 110.5 watts in HWiNFO64.
This guys an excellent reviewer. Idk about that wobble test but it’s good.
Hey infinity! Great review. I was wondering if you're able to test the SD card reader speeds? Very few reviewers test this, so I think it would help your channel stand out a bit
Not really sure if my SD card is fast enough to saturate SDXC bandwidth but crystaldiskmark showed 96MB/s read and 29MB/s write.
Will the battery effect while using the laptop just for a content creator laptop,I'm highly interested in buying one of these for my new editing computer for my own RUclips channel.
What about omen 15 t the last 2019 model and its keyboard and screen henge?

Only reason I didn't bought omen bcz of over the top 2019 model design. Can't take to meetings etc. Looks like you going to war or something.
Pratyush Sharma 2019’s design is excessive. Why didn’t they make the design like this 2020’s version since the beginning, provided that they could grab more consumers who need a laptop for both gaming and working...

Yes, people, it'll play games at a fast speed. You won't be waiting long like some peasants with i3's and i5's. You can even open up pornhub really quick and close it, if that's what your worried about.
Is it good the 60hertz and brightness for architecture??
gaming laptops should have the extended keyboard in them...it helps designers, animators
I agree. I feel that for a price like this, numpads should be included.
@@hoopdie usb numpads
To this day I feel that this remains a controversial discussion.. Whether to have a numpad or not.. Personally, I'd go with tenkeyless because having a numpad shifts the WASD keys so far towards the left that I find myself positioning my left had in an awkward and uncomfortable position wherein my wrist or lower palm rests on the edge of the laptop instead of the wrist rest beside the trackpad.. A gaming laptop should be designed first and foremost for gaming, it can be designed to do more but never at the expense of its primary function..
Solid review! Would you be reviewing the MSI GS66? (Preferably the 2060 model)
Big if true

"Cheap laptops"? Man, it's costs more then 1000.

Hi, would you recommend this laptop for video/ photo editing on a budget?
I wouldn't recommend it for video Editing as it's too costly for video editing. You should go for Lenovo Legion Y540 as it's comparatively cheaper and can simply be used for heavy editing.
I got the AMD R5/1660ti variant and the only thing I have to complain about is the near 1 month shipping time. Other than that, I’m excited to be able to use heavy apps without much fear of thermal throttling.
So this isn’t the high end one? The one I was looking at was $1700. Is that just better internal specs cause I would like a better key travel. Also is the trackpad different?
Can you please include the weight of the laptops? I think it's important for some people.
HP Omen 15 2020 (2.45 kg) (4.5 pounds)
Yeah even i wanna know
2.45kg? I thought it was like 2.3. Damn that's quite a chonk, maybe I should just order the Eluktronics RP15, seems to be a good competitor to this
I got the omen 15 2017 and it's 2.6 kg. 3.4 maybe with power supply 😅
Which display port connects to the RTX GPU?
Does this laptop capable of running VR?
I have the 2019/2020 HP Omen 15 (all aluminum build) with the same Intel 10750h processor as the Omen depicted in this video. I love the keyboard and having the 10 keypad. That's why I didn't purchase the 2020 version as I wanted an all metal build with a number pad.

Will the power button be affected if keyboard got defected?
Subbed..hey I have a question. What’s the point of u only using 1080p 60hz If it goes up to 300hz?
The 144hz and 300hz refresh rates are actually completely different screens. You can choose to pay more to configure the laptop with those better screens. I also don't get to choose what spec I get to review, but I would recommend 144hz to most people.
If I connect this laptop to TV via hdmi how many hz will I get? Will I have 60hz?
So whats the best CPU and GPU combo to get? I know I want to get the best NVDIA graphics card available, but should I chose the Intel or AMD?
