Irit.. I think you might be excited about what I just discovered about these!! I had some white gouache.. and mixed a bit of the radiant water color into the white gouache.. and they made the most beautiful colors..!! you barely need a little drop of the color..! Really impressed... I made a really bright pink and used it over a darker color... really was fun..!! Hope you will give it a try.. you might find a new use for these.. I know I did.. they had been sitting around for awhile.. and now I have a new use for them..!!
I love these so much I bought a ton individually before realizing they were absolutely not lightfast. They move beautifully when dropped into water. I usually used 300lb watercolor paper. If you have a chance try them on yupo paper. It's paper made from plastic but still accepts water media. You can create beautiful backgrounds. You will have to wait for them to dry much longer on the yupo but it is really worth it. The colors are great! Have fun!
Thanks for the tip! I actually have some yupo paper coming my way, I'm excited! I know they are not lightfast, but that doesn't bother me. If you paint something with them that you want to hang on the wall in direct sunlight, you can get UV glass to protect your painting. That's what I'll do if I ever use them outside of my journal. For art journaling they are perfect! I'm more concerned about the way they look when scanned. But it might be just my computer skills not good enough to tweak the colors. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I have had these sitting on my shelf for literally months. My sister got them for me when I thought I was going to learn calligraphy. How exciting!!!! I actually have something you have!!!!
Thanks for great review Irit! I have 3 bottles and love playing with beautiful colors but so true about the staining. I’m going to watch you paint with them in your playlist to get more confident in using these. ❤️
so good to know your thoughts!! i've had these on my wish list for a while!! just wasn't sure when to/if i should pull the trigger! the colors are SUPER vibrant, pitty the pinks aren't more varied!
Hia The first time I used W&N inks, I knew they weren't lightfast but thought they'd just fade a bit, and was really upset to find they almost completely vanished. That was when I learned that most artists photograph paintings for reproduction when working with that kind of ink. Theyre beautiful colors, but i sometimes leave a piece for months before completing, so I've lost work this way. But these ones don't reproduce well, so I'm wondering why anyone would buy them. You can't sell a piece or even reproduce it accurately, so you can only paint and enjoy for a short while until it vanishes. Am I missing something?
Hi Melanie, I am not sure. I have seen several successful artists that create art for prints and textile use these and swear by them with beautiful results...
I wish i could buy them but the y are so expensive for me. Im going To search they one by one, 😜😜 of course Teal , fucsia and Yellow!! Love your videos!!
I do love your reviews Irit! Thanks so much; I am looking forward to seeing what you do with these and how you feel when you have experimented a little more with them :) :) xo
INTUITIVE & INSPIRED ART A while back I did my own fade test, and honestly, I did not notice much of a difference. When I did the test I used pure ink with no water. I have been wanting to mix it with water to see if it makes a difference. I have 3 colors, a red, blue, and yellow, and I made 3 swatches of each (3 reds, 3 blues, 3 yellows). I put one set of red, blue, and yellow in a dark room with no light whatsoever, one set in a window in direct sunlight, and one set out in my art room out in the open, regardless if it gets sunlight, room light, or whatever (basically I treated it as if I "painted" something and put it on my table). I think the red that was exposed to constant sunlight was slightly different but other than that, that was it. The blues and yellows were the same throughout. I'm going to definitely try this again because I would love to have all of the colors. Hope this helps.
Hi Irit. I think you can use the case that the radiants come in as a palette? I just use a small round palette with my hydrus' that I have. Lovely, bright colors. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Gillian! Yes, I think you're right. But then I'd have to remove them from the case... They are just a little less convenient than my regular pans palettes, but I think they might be worth the trouble! Thanks for watching!
I am so impressed by your artistic skills...thank you so much for making such wonderful videos for us...keep it up!! So, I noticed you use the radiant wc a lot in your videos and I really like the transparency and vibrancy of the radiant wc but I can't afford (or justify) such an expensive set, especially since they are not lightfast..can you recommend any wc brands that have the same transparency/vibrancy at a cheaper price?
Kamalita Rajagopalan thank you! Ph.Martins have more watercolors called Hydrus that are lightfast. I don't know if they are as vibrant though... but you don't have to get an entire set, you can start with 3 colors ( primary colors will give you the most flexibility) and gradually add more to your collection. Hope that helps!
Great review I really enjoy all of your reviews of products. I have had my eyes on the Hydrus ones but haven't gotten them yet. I really value your opinion though so I truly appreciate your review.
You're welcome Beth! I always consult RUclips before purchasing ;) But I must say I didn't find a lot of videos on these, even though I've seen so many recommend these! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
Thanks! I know about them, but they are not as bright as the radiant ones, also, I find liquid watercolours a lot fussier to use, but willing to make the 'sacrifice' for the brightness and vibrancy of the radiant ones. For my regular lightfast needs I have my Schmincke ;)

Lol! Yes, it's sometimes hard to keep up with me ;) What can I say, I want to try all the pretty stuff!!
Thanks for great review Irit!

I would love to see a lightfastness test with these. I know that they are not considered lightfast, but how much do they fade?
INTUITIVE & INSPIRED ART Google it. I remember seeing someone did a test for these :)

You make this look so fun!!! I want these and I don't even use watercolor that much 😂

Great review! Thanks for all the helpful info.
Thanks for watching!
# so amazing can you do a blog of wirting with water colors
Distress inks, pads ect only have a short shelf life , they go off after about 2 years.
hi
ware did you get the brush and water paint from [:
Hiba Salman I get my supplies from Jackson's Art supplies in the UK :)
Great watercolor, but it is so expensive 😭
Greetings from Brazil!
Start with 3 primary colors and see how you like them 😃
Awesome!
Dr. Ph. Martin's Hydrus Fine Art Watercolor are light-fast. You could use those instead.
Thanks! I know about them, but they are not as bright as the radiant ones, also, I find liquid watercolours a lot fussier to use, but willing to make the 'sacrifice' for the brightness and vibrancy of the radiant ones. For my regular lightfast needs I have my Schmincke ;)
Wish I could hear you . You need to turn your volume up!
Hi Anna! Sorry you had troubles. I didn't get any other complaints, so maybe try raising your speakers volume? Thanks for watching!
Irit Landgraf I can hear you just fine on my iPad with my headphones off or on. They (headphones) aren't even midway up in volume. 😊
why would anyone other than perhaps hardcore Buddhist monks want to waste their time and money on non lightfast paint?
Anyone who paints art for prints and digital work for one. Which is quite a huge industry.
