Goofy Gold

- Here is Goofy Gold, a old cheesy, novelty record spot I worked on back in the 1970's. Remember 8-Tracks cassettes!! It is funky, but still fun. Basically, I was just created animated scenes, site gags and lame jokes, to match the song clips. These were totally low, low, budget. But, they made tons of money for the record producer, not me. Leave a comment if you remember seeing this, or remember any of the songs. Enjoy.

My father wrote the copy for the commercial, and he gave me the record. 40 years later and I still know every word to the songs. 😂
Wow. I haven't seen this commercial since I was seven and begged my mother to buy me these records, which she did. I still tear-up at Running Bear -- they died!! lol
I had that album at 7 but lost it. :(
I had that album. I used ay it for hours. Miss those days.
These animated scenes were made just for the commercial. There were no full versions. Thanks for your interest.
I got this in '78 and it was my favorite for years!!!I finally found a copy recently after searching for many years!Remember the commercials like it was yesterday,Thanks for the memories!
I love Goofy Gold! Had this as a kid and I still remember most of the lyrics!
I grew up on this album and it's "Horror Sounds Of Terror"! So great to see this!
He he he.. I had this when I was like 8 or so. It might've been a Halloween promo, as it came with a "Scary Sounds" type of album (rattling chains, moans, screams, and the like). I loved Transfusion; wish I could karaoke that at the local bar.
Thanks for the commercial DragonflyEnt!
I do remember that scary sounds album. Paired up with this album (purple eater and monster mash) you had the perfect music for a halloween party.
I have that same two album combo
I liked alot of them hotrod lincoln flying purple people eater, monster mash,
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this! GOOFY GOLD. The first time I really wanted an album was when I saw this one, which was two records (four sides) advertised on TV. I don't know if this is the same ad, but I'm sure it is. I begged my mom to order it. It also came with an extra record of scary Halloween sounds called "Horror Sounds of Terror." I am now a songwriter and seriously this is exactly the point where it all started. Most of these are good "story" songs and really not "novelty" to me.
Those trippy animations did it for me. I thought they were just bizarre, even at 7 years old. Some of the Electric Company stuff was trippy as well.
Owned this as a kid, my bros and sis played the heck out of this record. I've recently re-complied all of these songs (though I can't seem to find the same version of Ahab the Arab or Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavor) and added it to my itunes account.
I haven't seen this this commercial since I was a kid in the 70s.And the fact you worked on this is just awesome.Thank You for bringing back this old favorite.
Great pop records!
I could swear the voiceover for this ad was the late Jack Sterling (onetime New York City radio personality).
He announced several of HRB Music's mail-order record ads at the time.
I totally had this 8 track when I was a kid. Mom still had an 8 track player in her car as late as 1990!
one of my favorites
Thank you for posting this. My sister and I used to LOVE this album and listen to it incessantly. Such wonderful silly memories!
Had this set. About wore those records out.
I also remember that commercial.
I have had this album since I was a kid and to this day it is still one of my favorites. Thank you for posting this.
I remember this clearly being on TV when I was a kid. We had a dial TV (click, click, click), 12 channels (2-13) and no remote (I WAS the remote, LOL). Mom had the 8-Track.
I remember them .
I had this album as a kid. I remember seeing this commercial and begging mom for it. Now that I look at the commercial I wonder why I wanted this silly album. Oh well. Memories.
1st album i ever bought. mom made me do extra chores around the house to earn the money. and i still have it in my record collection.
I remember seeing these images in a commercial...........
1978 HRN Music Company
I had this record, loved it.
IT'S CRAZY!!
I found the original 2 record set after searching for 25 years for $12, only copy i've ever seen for sale.
I have this somewhere, and I LOVED it when I was a kid...wish it were on CD.
Ever notice that your Purple People Eater has an extra eye?
Oh come on they are not all bad
0:57 Pepino: "Ma tu che sei, Siciliano?"
Lou Monte: "No, I'm a Calabrese, you nut!"
Interesting they would consider these "the worst", no, worst is when celebs try to do songs like Leonard Nimoy's "Bilbo Baggins"!
My parents NEVER bought things off of televised commercials like this, but once upon a time in the early 1980's my mother made a difference to that rule, and i have loved these songs ever since.
I STILL remember this commerical. What memories. I remember listening to this on 8-track at my cousin's. We would listen to it ALL the time. Wish it was on cd.
This and the Monkees' Greatest Hits - my first two music purchases ever. I played both to death, dancing around the basement. I know I was under 10.
I recently found a copy of this on Ebay and had to get it. I don't even have a record player anymore, I'll have to find someone who can turn it into MP3's for me.
Good memories.
Same here--my sister ordered them and I was hooked for life
I have had the cassette of this for years - and the ad was a key reason. The "Yakety Yak" part was the one that had stuck out in my mind for eons.
Owned this as a kid
+Jess Quinn I still do!
Jess Quinn: I did too! Wish I still had mine.
+creamween, totally jealous! I've been looking for a copy for a long time but the few I've found are outrageous in price!
Thank you for uploading this. I remember begging my mom to get it for me when I was 5 or so. I could have sworn she ordered it off the TV. King Kong Your Song was the most memorable for me.
I had this. Sure wished it was released on cd someday.
I'd buy it in a heartbeat!
I remember this commercial, Dennis.
i would love to find another copy of this on vinyl
thanks for uploading this!
I remember a Please Mr. Custer clip, it's not there
I'd love to find Goofy Gold on cd!!
Man, I'm a sucker for novelty and Bubblegum music! I wish I had this one! Thanks for posting the ad! Tell me something about how you did these cheesy but completely appropriate animations!
I have this !!!
We're the "music videos" from this commercial ever shown in full? Or was it just for the commercial.
I think the songs are cute.
I had this on 8-track. Do they have full animated videos to these songs?
