- Finally completed the Sherman after the horrible vinyl tracks stopped me from moving forward ! I had to buy replacement tracks from Bronco models which have 830 individual parts to assemble ! I got there in the end !
Your excellent mud weathering made this boring tank look so interesting....
Lekker thank you
76mm gunned M4's didn't reach Normandy until almost the end of that campaign and they were brand new having sat outside in the UK for a few months in storage.
I doubt they'd be chipped and would probably just have been a bit dirty, not muddy seeing as the weather was fine there in August 44.
I know from experience that the temptation to chip and weather is hard to resist but in actual fact these vehicles were coated in high grade paint which doesn't chip easily, you'd have to take a hammer to it and the tanks themselves generally didn't last long enough anyway to have the paint wore off them through continual use.
I've started colour modulating mine then for Normandy applying a dusty almost white (stone) coat and now restrict myself to lightly dragging a piece of wire wool along the side when still wet to simulate scrapes caused by the many bushes and trees that these things have to push through, this is an effect often seen on modern combat vehicles.
Spray a dust layer along the side hull, gently drag wire wool along it.
Spray another layer and do another wire wool drag, repeat the process until satisfied.
When done you should see a vehicle operating in very dusty hot conditions that has been pushing through hedgerows and orchards for some time.
The dusty stone coat is just hazed on and more layers are applied where crew don't often go such as the glacis plate, the gun and mantlet and the hull and turret sides.
Removing layers of this dust I think gives an accurate portrayal of movement from the crew as they shift stores off the rear deck and generally move about the turret top etc.
I honestly think that chipping should be limited to vehicles that have a kind of proven longevity such as the odd rare M4 that survived more than a couple of months or maybe recovery vehicles and SPA ..............But it's great fun to do isn't it?
The same applies to WW2 aircraft, some great models of Lancasters weathered to hell and back but in actual fact the real aircraft didn't last long enough before being destroyed to fade and be chipped as so often portrayed.
A Lanc lasted on average 14 missions so at 2 missions per week that's only a 7 week life cycle, not enough time to accrue much more than faint exhaust staining really.
But having said all that, that's one helluva fine tank you've built.
ANTON RUDENHAM thank you very much for the tips and advice ! I just can’t help myself when it comes to weathering !
I just love that warthunder background music
Fantastic job! And finally, somebody who's not afraid or embarrassed to show his work displayed and not just finished. Thanks!
SCO Mike thank you !
Still one of the finest M4 Shermans in 1/35th ever made. Surely at some point we can get some M4 tracks that don't 6 million pieces and cost 6 million dollars! :D
TheSaturnV yeah your not wrong ! The new tracks I bought had 800 or so parts !
@@scalemodelling76 Thanks for the warning, I just did the 1/35 Italeri Crusader MkIII and it also had terrible flimsy vinyl tracks that broke in several places. I bought a set of friualmodel metal tracks that were not too bad to assemble and they work great on a RRC scale model. ruclips.net/video/4qA5UdMXFjg/видео.html
Excellent work...remembering the brave. Congratulations...and the music is fitting perfectly.
The old Sherman Kit from Italeri,i build this for 10.Years ago! Nice Kit!
Great to see someone do some chipping, etc to the decals. IMHO, too many great painted kits with weathering and damage etc, but with perfect decals applied.
I subbed specifically because of this video. Thanks.
One of the best looking Sherman's I have seen on here, well done, the weathering looks spot on, not over the top!...Bill
WWK Scale Models & Diecast thank you very much appreciate the comment !
No comment on why it was uploaded twice...just this: fantastic build! Great techniques and final product. Learned a lot! Keep it up!
The first upload went wrong the sound and text weren't right ! Thank you for the kind words !
I love this kit "Yes The Plastic Tracks Suck" but it's one of my favorite M4 builds! I have a couple of these I purchased about 14 yrs ago that are tucked away in my closet. Your video inspired me to build one, great job!
I liked the last scene, where you put the finished model on the shelf. That's something a lot of us don't get to experience enough, with real life getting in the way. 😞
Joe Shmoe yeah I have to admit life is getting in they way of my modelling at the moment too !
Great job!!! Fantastic model tank Sherman. My congratulations!
Really nice work, the realism of the weathering and mud is uncanny.
Listen , pay no heed to rivet counters , it is an art form , its about scale and aesthetics, they used high grade paint, so what , you are reproducing in scale weathering and shading , a form of impressionism , realism thrown in.
Your project hear was a master piece, dont change a thing
Watching through , modulation , dark primer , air brushing highlights, oil pin washes, oil dot fading , chipping , highlighting
And other various techniques, stippling , so forth
Mud, effects dirt and dust
You captured in scale 1/35th of an image, an impression that is very well done
Do not change anything
Great work , have you seen the new M4A3E8 by RFM and Asuka kits?
Well done!!!!
Don Frandsen thank you appreciate the comment! No I haven’t seen the new kits !
If your a Sherman fan you got to check those kits out , just saying
Very very nice job my friend......love the Sherman
Utterly beautiful work a perfect M4 build and presentation
Thank you very much !
Looks awesome!! It's a great kit when you put the effort in ! I did the Bonnie version, and used Asuka's T48 with duckbills rubber tracks !
nitromyke thank you very much !
I watch a lot of modelling channels on here and I notice little things when you drop a piece or struggle to get it right etc and honestly that makes you my absolute favourite channel, you don't bother hiding it, yet you still make stunning end pieces, on top of all that it makes me feel better when I do it. Absolutely love your channel, I've learned so much from you.
great work!!
Elliott Walsh thanks for that comment! Yeah I’m still learning really I just show what I know of the hobby ! I always think to myself, as long as I can enjoy the model when it’s done without noticing major imperfections then I’ve done ok ! I remember my old models they had so many things wrong with them you just couldn’t enjoy the model ! But I’m still in pursuit of that perfect model finish !
@@scalemodelling76 well you're well on your way there!!! I have been watching your older videos of the wow ships, because I'm in the middle of doing the Bismarck, anyway, even after just a year you have improved an amazing amount. Seriously, watch some of your old stuff and see how far you've come, I can't wait to be at your old level tbh, but it gives me hope that we can both reach our goal of being better haha. Have a good day, I'm happy you replied, made my day :3
Elliott Walsh thank you ! Really appreciate the kind comment!
Great build. Bought that very model as a child. Tracks were so horrid, they put such tension on suspension system (poorly attached with generic plastic tube glue) that sprocket wheels snapped off. I ended up practically burying them in glue blobs. (pinning them was beyond my imagination :) The tracks never conformed to the desired shape. It put me off tank modelling for years. I recently striped off all paint and I guess I will try a restoration work. I also got the million pieces Bronco track set. But I can't even dream of your quality level.
I just did this exact tank with the same markings a month ago. But yours is way better hahahah
sylvain falquet thank you !
As usual, a great build with a fantastic end result, well done 👍🏻
Rob Walker thanks !
Congrats for this beatiful building 😮
Beautiful finish
Excellentrendering, weathering and detailing
Cheers!!!!!!!,
Looks great built him to about two years ago
Great and easy kit to built
Nice job on the cast texturing.
My favourite ever kit, Was the first 1/35 tank I ever made and simple to build but a classic (your right about the rubber band tracks though) great video 👍
Fantastic work buddy really well done. I've looked at getting this kit a few times but thought it wouldn't be that good ! What a brill job you've done
Mottys Military Models thank very much !
Awesome job! The weathering job is amazing! Take care, -Scott
Scott's Bane thank you !
Damn...i wish i would have your skills...very nice job👌
Mustrum Ridcully thank you very much !
Fantastic job. Absolutely beautiful.
I read that the Sherman crews got rid of their stars really quick once they discovered that German anti tank crews aimed at them with great effort. If you look at pictures of the campaigns you hardly see any stars at the side or the front of the tank. You can see them occasionally ontop of the turrets to avoid friendly fire from allied planes. 😉
Vraiment vraiment à superbe travail. Du exceptionnel BRAVO 🇫🇷👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I think this looks fantastic! Great work for an italiri kit! I was watching a documentary only yesterday with AL capone sherman and the gunner was writing AL CAPONE on the base of the barrel in chalk!aye you could add that small detail? It was just inline with the figures foot hanging downs who is sitting onnthe mantlet!
Looks like Oddballs tank....Nice job, Im still not convinced that Italeri have the scale right on this model, but you rescued it
Très belle maquette mise en condition !! Beau camo ...
I have the Testors version of this kit and the AFV club HVSS suspension and track kit that I will put on it. Still on shelf, haven't done anything with it yet.
I'm building this kit I was like this kit is crappy... But wow you made it look awsome. I'm inspired
Great job tank looking awesome
kim Andersen thank you !
This guy is a master
I appreciate the comment but I'm far from that haha !
Great job- terrific work and Thank you for sharing :)
Thank you for the kind comment !
Excellent work!
Michael Gershon thank you !
Well done. Thank you for sharing.
Chipping and weathering is perfectly balanced....as all things should be
Can the gloss coat be applied with a paintbrush
Mike P thank you ! Well the Vallejo gloss is very thick and I’ve never tried it with a paint brush ! I know that humbrol clear is the one for paintbrushing but it’s not very hard wearing!
Built this back in August of '81. Vinyl tracks sucked back then. Wish I knew about soaking them in hot water.
Most impressive job, congrats!
war thunder menu music
Great build! Like the stippled effect with the putty. Wow, I think I first built this model back in the 80's when it was a Testors kit. Somehow I think I now have either three or four, including one half assed attempt to make an M-51. I have yet another I recently built but the decals were so old they splintered. Tan or some kind of green string for the rope?
awesome result 💯👌
Good work bel modello 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Very nicely done. Good informative vid. Just subbed.
Looks great .
The music has me wanting to send some Kerbals to space!
Could I use tamiya putty for the casting textures you think? Looks really good!
i just started building tank models, my first one was Tamiya's Tiger 1 scale 1:35, i was planning on painting it but later i got scared that i would ruin it since i'm just a beginner, so in the end i didn't paint it and let it how it is. I'm gonna buy another Tamiya model, a Panzer 3 and this time i'll try to paint it, i'm kinda scared to ruin it but i gotta do it in order to learn, i hope it'll turn out well
Spygineer just take your time ! And as long as your happy with it and can enjoy your completed model you’ve got it right !
@@scalemodelling76 alright mate, also, i subscribed to your channel
Spygineer thank you bud !
Great vid and build!!!
Great work as usual, what tracks did you buy for substitute. Keep vids comong learning so much. ✌🇨🇦✌
Thank you ! I bought Bronco Sherman T51 workable track link set product code AB3542 1:35 scale .
Great looking video. Presume you did a great deal of your very own coding.
I really like this model and im thinking about getting it as my first one to get started in modeling. Do you suggest it or do you sugest another model
It is a good kit the tracks are the problem the rubber ones that come with the kit are so tight I snapped mine so mabye look at a Tamiya 1:35 Sherman
Like the closing scene music...MoH? 🙂
War Thunder music plays in the background
Is this my game or the music of the vid???
This music from old psp Medal Of Honor. I promise you.

Nice figures - Supplier please? Nice job on the entire build by the way.
Outstanding work 👍
Great Job !!
Lovely music
Had the World of Tanks version of this which was sold as the m4 Sherman, with box art of the original Sherman. It was just a repackage of this sadly.
Incredible. Really great job! What tracks did you end up using? They look great. The cast texture really looks good too
nice video and I am in the mood to play some Medal of Honor
Wounderful
What is the reference code for the Mini-art models?
Bellissimo! !!. .bravo !!!
What model m4a1 is that?. There's no slim hatch and there's a loaders hatch?
are the minifigures 1/35 scale as well?
Does it need a specify glue or any glue
Hello, I greatly appreciate your decoration of your Sherman. can you give me the different references of the products you used to do it. THANKS IN ADVANCE.
Mando 92 do you mean the blankets and bed rolls on the engine deck ?
Scale Modelling 76 no, i was talking about the references of the paintings and washes for the sherman's body and turret.
Scale Modelling no, i was talking about the references of the paintings and washes for the sherman's body and turret.
Mando 92 so for the base colour of the tank I used Vallejo U.S olive drab and to highlight certain areas of the tank I added a few drops of Vallejo yellow ochre to the U.S olive drab . For washes I use 502 abteilung oil paints thinned with AK interactive odourless thinner . I normally start with a black oil wash to highlight details. Hope this explains some things .
@@scalemodelling76 Thank you very much for the information. the 502 Abteilung you used is the reference ABT110
What did you use to simulate the rope to tie the stowage on the rear of the tank ? . I can’t find anything that looks remotely like that , thank you.
Kubla Khan just normal sewing thread . Try a sewing shop near you .
Did you use the bonus codes for the game? If not, would you mind passing them over :) ? Please. I really want the Tetrarch
How do you put your tracks together mine always seem to snap
Micah Rigdon are you talking about the tracks that come with the kit ? If so mine snapped too! They are sh*t ! I bought some replacement plastic tracks from Bronco models and they are much better !
@@scalemodelling76 I dont want to buy a new set of tracks though I've tried staples maybe but they only work when your model has skirts
Micah Rigdon I don’t really know then I tried everything with those tracks and even when I got them on the tank they started to split at the joins around the sprockets !
Thank you I think I might try super glue or sewing them together it says you can do that
Bravo!
is light grey primer okay for this? i brush paint
Yeah I would of thought it should be fine
@@scalemodelling76 thanks
you would give me a link the oil that was used in the video

Did you mean 500 grit sandpaper? 5000 would just be a piece of paper, lol.
TheSaturnV thinking about it , it might of been 1000 grit
👏👏👏

👍👍✌✌
I like how there is War Thunder esc. Music in this vid
NOT a fan of Italieri, way too much sanding and part fit is awful
Lovely build, really nice. Thanks for sharing.
