My 2017 Toyota RAV-4, and the RAV-4 in general is just a great car from Toyota in my opinion. I haven't had any issues with it, and for me, the fuel economy is great. I've always done at least 7 to 8 L/100 km when on the highway, and it lasts me a long time. I drove from my house to London, Ontario with just one refuel, and it lasts me quite a long time. Toyota just makes very good vehicles in general. Nothing innovative in technology, but I think functionality is a lot more important than the technology in the car, and Toyota delivers on that in terms of the RAV-4 for me.
It’s funny how they always complain about the styling when functionality is actually the most important things. Who cares if it looks good and then it’s going to break down. Four tires get you from A to B Reliably
Yeah, there is a lady that drove her 1998 Toyota Tazz from South Africa to Egypt and back again! One repair was needed, and was done using a empty can of coke.
I am so thankful for these reviews. I'm looking to buy a new car and it's been a huge help to be able to watch and get the input so I don't have to drive all over and test drive models that isn't in line of what I'm looking for.
We have a 2016 Rav4D & love it. It's done over 100000km and expect it to do the same again. Comment about the video: it's not "constant 4 wheel drive" and there's no centre diff. Rear drive is engaged via an (electronic?) clutch when the front slips OR when you press the 4x4 button.
Just picked up a nice 2018 in white 2.5 liter and I love it. It gets 20mpg if you drive it hard and 23-24mpg if you put around at 55mph! I’m fine with that $30 fills mine up and I can go 350-400 miles on a tank. I keep my cars tuned up new plugs filters I get bored do stuff to them just to be doing it sometimes.
I’ve got the 2016 2.0 CVT Poor man version …. Mixed Melbourne and Highways… every refill is 50 litres and the range varies between 670km and 730km( personal best ) 😉. It’s boring and uneventful but it’s zero worries… so I’m happy with boring 😄.
I was trading in a 4runner and just went with what the salesman said it was a AWD which technically it is but once the either side of the front of the car is off the ground the front diff will send power to the wheel that is off the ground just like an open differential, the same with the rear. With all 4 tires in the air you can stop any wheel you want, so this is not a true AWD vehicle. After I found this out I found other youtubers that show the same tests as I did but they are real world applications as there is a Russian video shows the problem really well. I contacted the dealership and explained to them what I found out and they no longer wanted to talk with me anymore. I have owned a toyota since I was sixteen and will continue to buy them but once again the Rav4 is not a true AWD. Buy a Subaru if you want a true AWD vehicle. I will switch to the subaru myself but hesitant on the eight grand hit from this Rav4 trade in. I built automatic tranmissions, transfercases, and diffs for 15 years. Please do your own research before you buy. Show less REPLY
It's a city crossover... the hybrid versions tho have less of this problem I've heard and getting tires for light mud and snow driving helps out loads too
I’m expecting a new redesign 5th generation RAV4 2019 or RAV4 2020 will be a bit sportier and more aggressive, more eco, bigger, nicer, safer, stronger, and higher than this 4th generation . The front of the vehicle shall be semi- AUDI Q8 2018, and the rear of the vehicle shall be semi- BMW X7 2018 .
Interesting review. Here in Europe we don't have a real AWD Rav4. The diesel one in available only with manual transmission and 2wd, we don't have the petrol one, but there's also the hybrid version 2WD or AWD, the last one is "fake" cause it has an electric motor for the rear axes so it's not a proper 4x4
After I just wrote my response to quietkey75 my wife and I are going to Subaru to see what it will cost us to get a Crosstek. I own a Tundra and Camry, but please the Rav4 is not a true AWD. I would like to show anyone what I have found out about the Rav4. I believe Toyota should build something they advertise as being AWD as this current system is not good. The Rav4 is great on the highway travels well and at 65 mph it will get about 30 plus mpg, if you do 85-90 it drops to about 24-25mpg. Great for around town. THE RAV4 IS NOT A TRUE AWD!
It's a city car, what's with the AWD obsession, and what's the need for the AWD? The mileage is physics and has nothing to do with the car. The AWD on a Rav4 shuts off over 30 mph as it's there just to get you out of some deep snow or ditch, once you start driving, there's no need for it. The AWD just puts a drag on the car and makes it less efficient.
Do you think the Subaru boxer engine will outlast any Toyota motor? Dont think so. The Subaru AWD might have the best Symmetrical all wheel system but the CVT won't last long.
The front looks good... I have some issues with the back however the exterior is liveable... but the interior looks quite bad compared to pretty much any other in the class...
Would be great if the Toyota rust warranty hadn’t been eaten away by the corporate lawyers to the point that it’s absolutely useless Sad that the various mounting hardware in the engine compartment doesn’t meet basic anti corrosion specs It’s as if there was no real QA checks on perhaps a new Chinese supplier!
There is, no worries, I own one, though is 2013 model, bought in 2015 brand new. Amazing car, excellent interior (done 2500km without any back pain whatsoever in 2 days)
Toyota lacks in so many things. Performance, tech and style, this is 2017. It's funny how he talks about the infotainment system that you cannot find in European cars.... Well is because they have apple car play and android auto. And the performance, 2.5L 4 cylinder turbo that produces 132kw of power, what a joke!!! Compare to Hyundai Tucson which has 1.6L 4 cylinder turbo with 130kw of power, and you can get a 2.0L none turbo diesel with 136kw of power, and also Hyundai looks great, in and outside. The problem with Toyota is that they don't listen to their customers, they all think about how much more money they can fit in their overloaded pockets.
I have a Rav4 with AWD, I never needed it other than a couple of times to get out of some deep snow, I don't know what's the obsession with the AWD systems, neither a Subaru nor a Rav4 are off road vehicles, if you want an off road vehicle, buy a Jeep wrangler.

Very reliably at that.... :)
Plus, the car looks good enough. Even so the functionality and reliability can make the car more appealing overall
RAV4's are amazing. I have an 07 RAV4 with the four cylinder engine, and it's never let me down
RMH 666. "with the 4 cylinder engine" all three engine variants are 4 cylinder ?
Maddie Milford there is a few that where made with 6 cylinder.
Nikita Davis 2006-2012 had the V6.

That start button placement is so strange!! The left-side driver models has it in the center next to the climate control which makes more sense!
rainystorm88 yeah but if you have an idiot friend in the car they csnt press it to scare you 😂😂 after a week or so you get used to it
On the right hand drive it makes more sense if they had swapped placement of the hill descent and start stop near the steering wheel much better

It needs a turbo and an interior that belongs on a 21st century car.
Judging by the new C-HR, the next Rav4 may be a much better car.
