A song from the CD By the Sword, by Mercedes Lackey. It is about Kerowyn becoming more than just a commander of a mercenary company. I don't know who sung it, though.
Women of steel, your bodies are cold Where is the passion of days of old? Held in your prison, you wither and die Leaving love untold... Strength of arm is a useful thing But leaden arms can never turn to wings And soon you will find all your youthfulness gone As you sit by your fireside, all alone
Here is the second half of the lyrics for the song! ...Now turn your eyes to the blazing sun And let your hearts fill with joy and delight As you conquer the darkness and enter the fight Some day the call will arise again And you will join with a few honest men To fight the evil that lingers and waits By the forest gates, by the forest gates By the forest gates
I think this is "That Song!" as it is refered to by Tarma. It is the song that gets Leslac arrested in Oathblood at Hawk's Nest (the Sunhawk's winter camp) after one of her freinds hears & has a fit about blasphomy.
not sure but it sounds like someone talking to a young girl telling them if they want warmth and comfort forget becoming a soldier. learn to be kind to men and children. Kerowyn left darren at the edge of the forest and became a soldier. She is lonely and many times in want. talks about when women are too old to fight. so learn something they can do. those are just my feelings.
Well Kerowyn leaving Daran was actually a good thing because then he went and got married (And possibly lifebonded) to Queen Selenay straight after that....
I have no idea what fiction it is set in (and therefore don't know anything about the story) but what it made me think of was telling generic soldiers that the war was over and encouraging them to find fulfillment in the lifestyles they'd warred to protect it did occure to me that it was unusual to call generic soldiers "women of steel" but I decided I liked the interpretation because many people would happily call them "men of steel" and it subverts that sexism :) I thought the forest gate was like a call out to the fact that once the soldiers have settled into a non war lifestyle if dangers come calling to wherever they are they'll still be able to protect those around them (imagining like an old soldier getting there sword out again to fight against some goblin bandits that have taken up residence in the forest)
This is attached to Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar series. The character Kerowyn shows up in a bunch of the books, and I don't remember which one matches up with the events in this particular song. If you want to read them chronologically start with "The Black Gryphon" which is set well before Kero comes into play, or you can read by publish date, starting with "By The Sword", which Kero is in.

Misty's music helps me when I'm writing. My stories are in medieval settings, so these songs keep me in the mood. :) Thanks so much!!
Again.. this is MEG DAVIS who wrote and sang this song
Makes me think of the lioness from Tamora Pierce's immortal series. I've not read the series shes actually from.
I've read all of Tamora Pierce's books (because I am a massive nerd) and you're so incredibly right

No "That Song" is actually called Sword Lady. I think Savitar the Surfing God has it on his channel.
that song is called threes
Jacquine Connors No, threes is about them defeating bandits. This is called woman of steel. Threes and That Song are both different from it.
Omg thank you so much, for uploading it!!
so beautiful

Meg Davis Sings it. I just checked the site where they sell the cd.
Sorry if I seem scattered, but here are the lyrics for the song- in order this time! :)
By the forest gates.....
what book or series is this attached to?

the book is by the either oathbound or oathbreakers and is about tarma who is swordsworn to her goddess and will never again be with another man
It could also be from the first part of "By the Sword", Tarma to Kerowyn.
@@jacquineconnors8788 her heart has known love and she's good with kids. the star eyed apparently didn't remove her heart
I've always thought that this is the advice that Kethry gave Kero during the testing that ended up with Kero receiving Need. Just a thought.
Tanya Tyndell no this is one of the love songs that Leslac sang under tarmacs window.
