Loved seeing your little one Charles …. It’s almost as you see the entire experience through his fresh eyes . Just a lovely day out …. Hope to see your Dad too with his grandson … 3 generations would be great ❤
Luke really wasn't far off with his 4-0/4-1 score prediction. Even closer when it comes to xG. The lad knows what he's talking about! So pleased to see him enjoy his first game and nice of your dad to join you afterwards
Yes Calafiori probably deserves a second yellow for that action but then his first yellow was very soft... and moments later Leicester's Skipp gets a yellow for a very soft pull... Trossard and Saka got man handled as they were probably through next to the box (both on the left wing): no foul....I'm getting more and more confused about what constitutes a foul, a yellow, a red...
It wasn't an own goal. Trossard hit a shot towards the goal that comes off the defender and goes in. Arsenal are contesting it being designated an own goal. Also did you notice Raya was the only player not involved in the pre-game warm-up. He's clearly nursing a big injury.
I think Nwaneri starts vs Southampton. I also expect the team to be more ruthless. Leicester was an important lesson for us that thankfully didn’t cost us, don’t take teams for granted just because we’re out of our tough run of fixtures. Southampton were the worst team in the division two seasons ago and we couldn’t beat them home or away in a title race
Firstly glad your son enjoyed his first premier league home game day out. As for the game it's self , 36 attempts on goal and only 4 goals. We need our shooting boats. Looking at Trossards second goal our 3rd . I do think Trossard should be awarded this goal, it looks to be heading inside the far post.our wonder kid.10 minute cameo wow. I'm excited for his future. Great late win coyg's 😅
Nwaneri injected aggression, pace and dribbling to drive our final part of the assault which before his intro was rather , ummm, passive with the usual passing from left to right to left etc in an U shape outside the box.... we needed to attempt more through balls... be bold, so what if it didnt work out with our robust MF and defence? Gabriel, Rice even Calafiori could have made several... If Cooper& the media argue Calafiori should get a 2nd yellow, wed similarly argue his 1st card wasn't justified. Also, a LEI player stopped us from a quick throw in in the 2H where's the card ?? Arteta et al were all hands up lol...and of course the Ndidi kicking the ball away and his stamp on Martinelli ??? Cooper should focus on his team performance than fueling the bitching post game😢
I was surprised seeing Nwaneri come on ahead of Jesus when we needed a goal, and that surprise quickly became realization. I understood why. The boy is good! I see why we let Fabio go on loan and ESR leave - it’s Nwaneri. Side note: Man City players didn’t queue up to complain about Newcastles defending this weekend. They’re rather quiet.
I love the passion but let's cool it....Ethan is still growing. There is a lot of things you can notice he needs to improve on and they could easily be exposed against top flight teams. His off the ball positioning and footballing IQ has still not caught up to his on ball abilities. That will take some time. Let's stop underestimating premier league teams, points are not handed out. They are earned. Just look at how hard Liverpool had to fight against Wolves.
Did anyone else notice Trent Alexander Arnold (in the Liverpool game) kick the ball away from a throw in seemingly to delay the start? Nothing was said by anyone at the time. With kicking the ball away, is the rule different for a free kick and a throw in ?
Charles, what are you talking about? If I remember rightly, prior to the start of this game you wanted Nwaneri, starting over Trossard … Trossard who had a hand in at least two goals yesterday. Arteta got it right to not start Nwaneri and bring him on as a late substitute. I believe that just like Phil Foden was eased into professional football by Pep, the same sort of approach needs to be taken with Nwaneri.
Charles great stuff. I was wondering if you had any insight into how much the fines are yellow cards for the clubs? The number of yellow cards seems to going up with new directives like kicking the ball away etc. Does this basically all go to the PGMOL or the league? I don't see the necessity for 6-8 yellow cards a game across both teams (including double yellows). Thanks!
Pleased your son enjoyed it all, one he will always remember. It is also a good way to learn about watching Arsenal. That game defined the Arsenal highs and lows .He,ll get used to it as we all do!
I think this game re-ignites the chance conversion conversation. It might be difficult for us to integrate a new 'centre forward' into our system but we do need to find an answer to the low shot conversion of Havertz, Jesus and Martinelli. They are brilliant players and as a team we score plenty of goals - but not necessarily in the most difficult situations.
Injury aside, think about the remarkable depth we have in defence. If all our defenders fit , if Timber, Saliba, Gabriel , Caiafiori our first team back 4, imagine for example, Carabao Cup 4th round v Preston ,back 4 White- Tomiyasu- Kiwior- Zinchenko...that's not a bad back - up , back 4
Great 3pts, Ethan looked like a man on a mission when he came on, really got the crowd behind us. The referee had a stinker to be honest, Vardy should have got a foul (glad he didn’t), the booking for Cala was a 50-50 (probably realised later and didn’t book him a 2nd time) and the Saliba one was just a coming together, not a yellow.
Wonderful 3 points especially when Cheater dropped points 💪 All the good bits aside, Calafiori missed the run of Justin for our second goal conceded ... no way he'd strike that near perfect volley if Calafiori put pressure on him... Trossard chased back but missed the challenge by a fraction... I suppose Calafiori is adapting to both LB position (even thou he played previously ) and the PL and would soon iron out some loose bits. With Calafiori and Timber integrated as full backs ... wow... tasty 😋 Having White and Tomi/Tierney /Zinchenko (sell 2 of 3 asap) for fullback backup &rotation is mega even by PL standard The right attack trio/triangle of Saka/Odegarrd /White has shouldered two third of our results last season since Xhaka exited. Very much enjoying the formation of the left version aka Martinelli /Merino/Calafiori ! Merino yet to play but when this left triangle is functioning...we'd be salivating 😋😋😮
Obviously a relief to win but as liverpool showed last season relying on last minute winners / equalisers will not end well if that becomes regular. We'll fall away , just like Liverpool did..this game was a warning.
Eventually saka needs a rest (maybe play Sterling or Jesus, although I am less impressed with Jesus playing in the false 9 position. Harvertz or trossard are better in the false 9 position).
@Charles My thought on yesterday match: Do you think Arsenal is still facing the same left back problem considering the second goal we conceded yesterday, and the first goal conceded against Man City last week coming from Calafiori side?
Hi Charles . You made a statement last season where you stated that Gabriel Jesus was without a doubt our Greatest attacker. Out of our 6 attackers today could you please state the order of goal contributors you perceive by the end of the season. My list is as Follows . Haverts at 1 Saka at 2 Rahime at 3 Trossard at 4 Martinelli at 5 and Gabriel at 6.This is a goal contibution list so both goals and assist apply irrespective of games and minutes played.😮
Charles, what are your thoughts on resting Saka after the PSG game against Southampton? I’d like to guess that Arteta started Saka in the league cup because of trying out the Saka-Nwaneri combo before a league game but Saka might do well with a rest also considering the games he would have to play in the International break.
Good game for Martinelli, but he could have had an hattrick in the first half of he made better decision and first touch in the box. Martinelli also needs do more to cover for Riccardo Calafiori defencively. That second goal wouldnt have happened if Martinelli tracked back.
Hi Charles another great show, so glad you mentioned the fact that Skipp was lucky to be on the pitch after committing at least three yellow card offences and only getting booked once. I can't understand how the referee can give the foul, which means he's seen the offence and not give the yellow card.....he either sees the foul or he doesn't......the martinelli foul by skipp was yellow no question
If you look at the game overall Arsenal were totally dominant and if it hadn't been for a deflected goal and an absolute one in a million worldy we would have won the game very comfortably. Their keeper had the game of his life and was singlehandedly responsible for keeping Leicester in the game. There are a heap of positives to take from this game and we should go into the PSG game brimming with confidence.
I was surprised Arteta actually put Nwaneri on in a tie game, before Jesus nonetheless. He seldom trusts a young player to do wonders. And the two very harsh yellow cards to Saliba and Calafiori in the first few minutes of the second half absolutely threw us off balance.
We let pass two goals . It is worring . It does not matter that one was accidental it only shows that we were not holding the defence line correctly. We should have done better .
Grabbed you hand off the where we are with those away games, 2 of them with 10 men and a few without odegard and 1 without rice and odegard, AMAZING!!! START!!
Couple of thoughts/observations. We have conceeded 4 goals in 2 games since califiori started. Time will im sure help with this. Secondly i wonder if Party is a bit off the pace now?? Im saying this off the season not just yeaterdays game.
Calafiori often goes on a man marking as he’s an aggressive FB and 95/100 times will win the ball but when it doesn’t work, you are exposed with a lot of space behind you for the opponents to utilize. At some point we’ll have to use Gabriel as a wide CB. In yesterday’s game, Saliba was made to be the only defender who stays on the center line to break transitions with 8 of our on field players on the final third We looked to dominate them very high and when they succeeded in getting the ball high up, it becomes a problem for us. We wouldn’t play like this against all oppositions but we‘re going to see some of these tactics being used as we‘ll look to overload the oppositions final third.
It's clear jorginho and partey are no longer starters and he simply does not have the legs, almost as if declan was our only midfielder felt like partey was a defender in and out of possession. With merino back next week we'll definitely be way more solid
In my opinion, Partey had a bad game. He lost the ball before both goals (or the freekick for the goal). But I think we have to get Rice back to the 6. I think he looks lost sometimes at the 8.
I guess we'll gradually see more games of Rice playing as 6 and Partey on the bench, once Merino fully recovers and gets used to the team. He's probably the closest player to Xhaka in our current squad.
Harvetz should start on the bench against Southampton. He works very hard and plays the whole game. One of the CB as well. You'd like to keep them as fresh as possible over the stretch of the season.
We know by now that's not enough for Arteta,Ramsdale was a brilliant shot stopper and that didn't help him,But hey you never know as Arteta has a GK fetish and he needs one every transfer window😂
We needed a game change, and Nwaneri was called upon instead of Jesus. I think Jesus is slowly falling down the packing order. Havertz in the midfield got Leicester running through our midfield.
Hi everyone do people think Partey's legs "have gone", the injuries have caught up with him? Is he past his best? All views very welcome. Kindly regards gerry
The calmness of Nwaneri
That twist and turn in the box like time stood still, haha
He might be our new version of Jack Wilshere (who won’t be unfortunate with injuries like Jack‘s).
Thought that long ranger was in. Jeez
Viera saw Nwaneri in training and knew his days was numbered
Loved seeing your little one Charles …. It’s almost as you see the entire experience through his fresh eyes . Just a lovely day out …. Hope to see your Dad too with his grandson … 3 generations would be great ❤
Absolutely agree but getting 3 seats together at Emirates is hard work!
Rest partey after PSG game. Start nwaneri.
Luke really wasn't far off with his 4-0/4-1 score prediction. Even closer when it comes to xG. The lad knows what he's talking about! So pleased to see him enjoy his first game and nice of your dad to join you afterwards

I watched the game and Saka was outstanding. He is not a flashy winger but his efficiency is unmatched. In that sense he is a very unique talent.
He also looks to have added an insanely quick first step to create that separation
Leicester goalkeeper was incredible and fair dues for that performance
When did every foul become a yellow card? Am I missing something here?
It wasn't an own goal. Trossard hit a shot towards the goal that comes off the defender and goes in. Arsenal are contesting it being designated an own goal. Also did you notice Raya was the only player not involved in the pre-game warm-up. He's clearly nursing a big injury.
I don’t think his shot was actually on target, it was actually headed across the six-yard box and eventually wide if no one was there to tap home.
HIGH WATTAGE ⚡⚡⚡

Cringe.
@kunimitsune177 his a regular with this comment and we don't mind it..what's your problem?

#GuardingAgainstComplacency
Those three yellow cards at the beginning of the second half were very....weird. Had a strange feel about it. Like something was going on.....
Nwaneri was fantastic but I still think it was right to have him on the bench. The man everyone wanted him to replace scored twice!
Arsenal #1 when things low I can come here and feel good when things high I can come here also
Glad your son enjoyed it.
Heart warming. ❤️🤍

Arsenal should look at that keeper as a long term replacement for Raya, those saves he kept on making had me worried for a second.

Nope, he’s recovery of form post injury takes longer and longer though. But he is a vital member of not only the squad but the first 11. 🔴⚪️
