Overcome the hesitation while switching patterns by using only one style. Enter the style (left) in the pattern sequencer only once. Following this enter only the part ( intro, main a, etc.) into the right hand section WITHOUT reentering the style name (left). This circumvents the need to expand the pattern tracks (which uses considerable memory). Great track. Peace
There's a short pause in music playback each time the song moves to the next pattern if you create a pattern track the way I show in this video. Avoid switching the style, as Charles suggest, and that problem doesn't occur.
What is pretty neat on my little Roland XP 10 it’s got that computer host connection. Also XP 10 has a start stop button on board. I never got it to start any sequence or ever had but when I hooked that cable from the XP to the Qy 70 it starts and stops perfectly Using the Pc cable. Also, it’s pretty handy that one cable does the medi in and out also.
Hi, please more video on exploring the capabilities of QY70 and it application, make a playlist of it if you can! I just got one recently and this little unit surprised me, it can be a portable workstation with decent internal sounds and it can also work as sequencer for other hardware.
@@mr_floydst I'm looking forward to it, still learning the workflow of this little silver box, all that menu diving kinda put me off so I'm only tinkering on the surface at the moment
Please make some new videos on the QY70!! More specifically how to use the step sequencer recording. I can’t really wrap my head around composing with it even after reading the manual.
Hi! I already made a lot of videos on QY70 and 100 - and each of them has parts on the step sequencer, for example, this one: ruclips.net/video/qJ5NvU-dC1k/видео.html
@@mr_floydst tudo bem ?
Thanks for your awesome videos Floyd! I must keep missing something though, as I'm trying to do the same exact thing with my qy 70 and a Roland JD XI (and a Zoom r8). I can't manage to get the sounds i want. For example i play the JD XI drums and record them on the QY (phones are in the JD XI, and the JD and QY are connected via midi as well) but when I play I hear a stupid grand piano doing the notes I play with the drums. FIddling a bit with the settings the best I could do was hearing the piano AND the drums :D very confused about it
Hi, please check your MIDI channel setup on both boxes. The QY70 is a tone generator as well, and by default, all of its tracks/channels are inhabited by a piano (apart from channel 10, which has drums). On the QY70, go to the mixer screen and set the volume of the track your JD-XI drums are recorded to to 0.
I would love my qy70 more if it could be modded to have an internal battery and a backlit screen , it’s a great groove box/sequencer with full midi , I’ve seen backlight mods and they look scary and I don’t think the parts are available any more , the sounds on it are great
It seems very similar to backlighting a Gameboy, but I have never tried that either. I did read that the qy100 is much easier to mod as it has more exposed battery terminals.
@@mr_floydst I read somewhere the led foil method is the best, apparently it's kind of tricky getting the old foil off though . I also wonder if the mod would make the display harder to see in direct sunlight, as I really enjoy sitting in the garden with my qy70
Disaster struck this week - my faithful QY70 has developed a fault - the Menu key and three note keys (lower B, upper G and upper D#) suddenly stopped working. All notes play using an external keyboard. I don't think this is an issue of dirt or dust - all four keys just suddenly ceased to function in all song and pattern modes. Factory reset does not cure the problem and the factory tests all pass. I am now looking at buying a new QY - probably a QY100 as these seem more commonly available. The faulty QY70 still works fine as a basic sound module and sequencer, although of course so many features are now inaccessible with a faulty keyboard. I wish Yamaha or another manufacturer would bring out a device with the amazing feature set found in the QY series.
I'm sorry to hear that. This problem might be fixable if you're willing to open up the QY and solder a bit, perhaps. I'll take a look at the schematics later to see if I can find something...
I am fairly good at soldering but surface mount components are a bit daunting. I do have a decent hot air tool so if it looks possible I will definitely have a go! Many thanks!
For some reason I cannot choose a drumkit like you do in the beginning of the video, all kits play only the limited range of notes with a standard percussion kit (congas, crashes, agogos etc) and all other notes are mute. What I do wrong? I can hear different drumkits in preset phrases but cannot choose them in User phrases...sorry to bother you, this device is a bit puzzling for a newbie😔
Hi, thanks for watching! My best guess: Did you lower the octave you're playing in? Use the +/- keys on the left side to go down one or two octaves. In General MIDI, Drum Kits are assigned to notes, and the bass drum is found on C2. See soundprogramming.net/file-formats/general-midi-drum-note-numbers/
@@mr_floydst absolutely! As I mentioned, only one drumkit is playing despite the fact I clearly see I'm choosing octaves and styles. Can it be that certain patches/styles are not installed/has been erased from the device?
Hmmm... That's strange. No, you can't uninstall sounds from the QY70. Certain drum kits _can_ be edited, though, for example all drum kits named DSx. The step sequencer is always showing 1 measure/bar, the first line showing the first half, and the second line the second half. so, for a "four to the floor" beat, you need to place four notes on those lines (2 notes in the upper part and 2 notes in the lower part). the second note needs to sit right in the middle of the line.
