Forge FC cruised to victory over PLSQ champions FC Laval to open their 2023 Canadian Championship campaign, with Bobby Smyrniotis' side looking relatively untested in an eventual 3-0 win which saw Noah Jensen notch a brace and Woobens Pacius open his account for the year, too.
Jensen's opening goal was punctuated in the second half with a free-kick follow-up, before Pacius buried a penalty to secure the result at Tim Hortons Field.
The Canadian Championship continues Wednesday on OneSoccer with a back-to-back-to-back triple-header, beginning at 5PM ET / 2PM PT with Halifax Wanderers hosting Atlético Ottawa. The winner of that match will meet Forge FC in the semi-finals.

Love seeing the growth of football in Canada
Yeah, it looks like an enormous crowd was on hand.
@@Lava1964 9 degrees Celsius and windy today. Bet you would have been out with short shorts and flip flops.
Same.. the kids in Canada are very lucky now and have more than every opportunity to become pro (AT HOME especially and abroad)... I come from the generation just before League1, PLSQ and eventually CPL began to take off.. A LOT of talent went to waste in Canada.. the youth are blessed and much more is to come!
@@Lava1964 it's not about crowds, it's about developing clubs and players. Give it time - the rest of the football world 🌍 has had about 100 years headstart compared to North America
And what's even better is that you're all starting calling it football as it should be, instead of "soccer"
I just love the fact that Wandrille Lefèvre, ex-Montréal Impact player and all, keeps playing for the heck of it in semi-pro. Isn't he like a accountant or something now?
That forge goalie is tripping 😂😂
I couldn't stop watching him. All over the place lmao
I want forge to cut em and get a new keeper lmao
@@ssk-_-dotz3773 weird thing to say about the most decorated keeper in the leagues history
He gives me so many heart attacks but it’s his style and it work for him (and obviously the team). He’s helped us win the CPL 3 of the 4 years it’s been in existence.
VAMOS FC LAVAL!
The Laval (nonexistent-) wall against the free kick on the second goal was horrible. Also you want to avoid deflecting the shot like Lefèvre did...
The wall doesn't cover the entire net, only the near side where the ball is placed (which it did) , unfortunate that an attempt to block the shot caused a deflection towards goal
was more of the goalkeepers positioning. The wall was set up fine to cover the near side and force the players to put dip if he wanted to shoot there but the keeper was sat in the middle of the goal and let his open side be exposed.
You could argue that defender was within his frame, but you wouldn't see their arm out like that. Incidental, but still an actual handball. Terrible officiating. The US Open Cup finally is having VAR across all of the games, and Canada has like an 1/8th of the same number of lower league clubs. Keep growing, CAN...one day...
1:40 clear handball, should be penalty.
Dang that missed penalty angered me… and I was watching the recap!
The ref let it go cuz it's accidental and his arm was close to the body
@@momo777777777777777 it should have been a penalty. The keeper was scrambling back to his net as it happened. So the players intended to block it
@@momo777777777777777 still made the defender bigger in a particularly dangerous situation for Laval. Clear pk if you ask me. Pretty sure the ref knew it hit his arm by the sound and trajectory of the ball
If you watch it again, he has arms tucked in to his body, it just happened to hit his arm (which causes his arm to flail outwards)
@@emilioroche7712 he did, but at the moment the ahot was taken he turned and moved his left arm away from his body
Let’s go Hamilton
Standing room only crowd
Ref was terrible
PK and red card needed
