  • The movies shows the launch of Kittiwake at 37' Hunter Legend sailboat from the yard of QCYC in 2012. The marine railway was originally constructed on Algonquin Island (then Sunfish) in 1921 using donated rails and equipment from RCYC. The railway was oriented in an West/East direction. It was rebuilt abut a decade later in a North/South direction to provide more protection to the boats on haul-out and launch. The boats are stored in the winter on cradles made of wood or metal. The cradles are hauled using ropes and hot lard for lubrication onto a marine railway car and secured to the car. The cradle with the boat then travels down the railway into the lagoon and launched. In the fall the reverse is performed to haul the boats out. The railway went through a major rebuild in 2005. The Yard can hold between 90 and 110 boats. A boat can be launch or hauled every 15 minutes on average.
