"You know you're in trouble when people stop listening to sad music. Because the moment they stop listening to sad music, they don't want to know anymore... They're turning themselves off" - T. Yorke
@urgiduurrgghh i think it depends on the person though, A lot of people find comfort in sad music becuase it's so human and real. Thom's and Radiohead's music is human.
I find Radioheads emotive music so soothing and grounding. Sometimes I feel clogged up and weighed down with a general frustration and the melancholy of the music and Thoms beautiful voice provides me with a way to release the pent up emotions and reflect.
The last bit made me cry. HE is thanking US for giving this opportunity to HIM, when he has given so much to US. His music has been my best friend at times. It has kept me alive in the darkest times because I didn't feel alone listening to what he was able to articulate. I hope he knows how much what he does matters, and how grateful I am for it.
Last night I had this weird dream... In my dream I heard Radiohead play a new song that I have never heard before... It was absolutely amazing... And had such a beautiful melody. I connected to it on a deep personal level. Afterwards I met Thom and almost speechless said "Thank you for everything"... It was a very emotional and weird dream... In real life I was dancing around on the living room floor the other day with my 3 year old daughter listening to "Lift" from MD 126 ....
I mean... we pay his bills, lotta people goin hungry out there. Not saying he's not talented, but he should be thanking us. He has a fantastic life while most of the world is in poverty. That's a gift regardless of how talented you are. Lotta talented people in poverty and never gonna make it too. Thom prolly realizes that.
And in the beginning, he says something about how "people may emotionally connect with the music I've BEEN INVOLVED IN". Looks like he never even admits that he has actually written it, that it was him who created it in the first place... Amazing!

I was 16 when kid a came out. It's difficult to describe just how much me and my friends loved radiohead and how much they meant to us. They drew me right in and touched me so deeply emotionally.
Where normal interviews start with: How's the tour going? This one just starts with two kinds of sleep and the health benefits of napping and Siestas in Southern European countries. I love it.
I haven’t remembered my dream since I was a little, and it’s been bugging me so much. Well, I watched the anima short film on Netflix the other night, and then had my first dream in a long time... and thom Yorke was in it! It’s like he cast a spell on me. I can’t stop thinking about it.
I had 3 beautiful Bowie dreams leading up to his death. The last one was on the Friday, two days before he died. I also told my better half that Bowie would die soon that day. Weirded me out for quite a while.
In a world that slaps "genius" badges onto anyone that can hold a guitar, it's sobering to see a true artist speak. Not many people have the power to move me to tears through the sheer beauty of his lyrics and music. Thom is one.
This is one of the best interviews I've seen - He refers to his music as sad, He's humble - Radiohead is working on a higher consciousness. Cheers Zane, super enjoyed.
I love seeing genius musicians aging well and not clinging to old patterns. its a cliche to have brilliant stars burn out and die young but in such much of the world music the masters are over 35. its like you aint shit until you've lived enough to know what the blues are about. its good to know that people like Thom are out there still carrying the torch and lighting the way with their wisdom.
I fucking love Thom, not just his work but who he is as a person. He's just real, he has no mask or facade to show off for a camera like most artists do. How Zane was talking about connecting through artists through there music is pretty much a personal experience. I've been a huge Radiohead since I was around 15 and they've been the only band that have made the biggest impression on me. I'm glad Thom is doing well, he's been through a lot in the last few years. Watching this interview was like seeing an old friend again.
This makes me so happy to listen to Thom laugh...he seems to be in a good place these days! Back in the 90s his seeming endless misery had me worried we might have another Cobain on our hands. Thanks Thom, you'll never know how much you've meant to my life :)
This is thee greatest part of “age” - when these phenomenal artists are finally comfortable in their own skin- beyond caring about judgement of anything else for that matter, and opening their heart to this wealth of wisdom...to share with all of their admirers. If one thinks about it...their words, while innocently spoken in an interview- are just as powerful yet in a different way...as their music. In a completely different mental aspect. Their music is beyond words, and then we get this fantastic, cerebral endorphin jolt. So strange if thought about past a topical level, because it’s really a direct raw access that we are being privileged to, which is exactly what and how they go through the steps of their artistic masterpieces- and in this case since Thom has had various experiences, we get to hear about more than just I’m sure, what a lot of us weren’t expecting. This interview was like getting a bunch of gifted Easter Eggs. Essentially, we’re given a pass to that little bit of understanding how they do it; their thought-process behind it. I dig on listening how *age sorta forces it’s way into these workaholic types (artists exclusive), and how when they actually ‘stop to smell the flowers’, when an unexpected influence in their life yanks their brains interest just long enough to have them explore what just happened (as he’s exposing his new-found interest of the power of ‘sleep’ in its entirety, on a beneficial level). These types of interviewers who’s own genuine interest and admiration is able to scratch past the surface of their “job” strictly by causing, again, a more *raw “human connection”. Splendid interview.❤️ Thom was amazing and gracious with his going beyond, deep and personal, in his answering. Thank you gentlemen.☺️✌️
Im so happy I live in a time where Thom Yorke makes music. He will never know the things he's done for people and the lives he has touched. Thank you Thom.
I'm watching this again.......for probably the 5th time. And it just makes me wish Thom did more interviews. Seriously. He's SUCH a smart humble cool creative awesome human being. I just adore him to a ridiculous degree. This interview is perfect. I'd love to see more stuff like this....
I have been a Radiohead fan for many years and I feel this is the best interview that Thom Yorke has ever shared. Former interviews helped quenching the thirst of connection that his fans needed, but they often felt strained and painful. This is what appears be an off the cuff, spontaneous interview that is so, so refreshing for real Radiohead fans. Like most fans I had resigned myself to the impossibility to feel a real connection with the real people who were creating this incredible, sometimes life changing music. There was often the feeling that Thom Yorke had some atavic fear or shyness of being himself when projecting to the public. Nearly a fear of identifying himself with his music and reluctance to accept the fact it was so resonant to so many people. I know there is no duty from any artist to share the process of creation, to share the doubts and the agonies of delving inside yourself and projecting through an art medium. However, I felt there was always something missing: a lack of acknowledgement of a mutual sharing of emotions and dismay and anguish. And hope as well. This is a new Thom Yorke, who sounds comfortable in his own skin and does not wish to run away from the millions of people he has so greatly affected through his music. It may be age related, but it is a truly nice development. Thank you!
Fascinating to hear Thom so grounded, present, & genuine. An artist of alien genius who reveals himself to be a humble creative who works extraordinarily hard to construct work of alien genius.
Fuuuuuck! I remember seeing “Radiohead” at a free show in San Francisco in 1993! I put quotes around it, because for whatever reason (I’m guessing hangover, or jet lag, or both) the band never showed. It was just Thom all by himself with an acoustic guitar. Great set!
What a great interview, err, I mean discussion. Just brilliant. The opportunity to speak with Thom in this relaxed laid back format. Once in a lifetime and we're all lucky to have a chance to listen in. THANK YOU!!
Lovely to see Thom so open to talk these days. I want to start something creative for myself to understand the emotions Thom goes through with his work, must be a feeling like no other.
That ended on such a beautiful note. Wonderful interview. And all the talk about going through the Kid A/Amnesiac archives!!!! I really hope that they release something for the anniversary like they did with OKNOTOK.
Great chat. Thom's such a down-to-earth, humble bloke. Zane has always been a good interviewer. Wasn't planning on watching the whole 38 minutes but it was great to listen to. Like what Thom said about how hard it is to "get people angry" (about issues) "you can get them worried, but not angry (enough) " s what he means. Very insightful bloke with depth and a genius musical soul.
This was a fantastic interview. I think I learned more about Thom both as an artist and as a person from watching this than I have from any other interview. And of all of the great information he shared here about his experiences creating and performing, what brought me the most joy was what he said at the very end about his happiness and gratitide for his life situation. I love it!
For someone who has also been bullied and suffered anxiety and panic, he is great inspiration. I find it comforting he is this relaxed now. Getting there.
Yes! It's FABULOUS. So interesting, and the health implications of poor sleep are staggering. Do check out the author's podcast with Joe Rogan. Very entertaining.
Thom seems to let his walls down for this interview, whereas in the past he was understandably very protective. I don't know if experience, being a parent, or overcoming pain has made him more trustful of people. But it's nice to see that he's more ok with talking openly these days. Not oversharing but not overly suspicious of anyone either.
The care required to allow for a group of people to improvise freely, with self confidence as well as humility. The ongoing care, through the creation process, where we can still be our true selves, allow each other the be their true selves. And trusting that process. That’s the subtle, highly personal, professional space we all need. Yes, the collaboration, where you also feel that your vision is actually being realized... the subtlety. The subtlety. The feeling and production happening in concert. Love this interview so deeply. So authentic.
Same. I had followed them since Pablo, and OK was my first tour, but Kid A was like seeing them become more of themselves. I'll never forget getting that album and hearing it. Mind blown and music altered forever.
The guys a genius. Like being a contemporary to Mozart. I’ve travelled around to many of his shows but the pandemic stole the last two from me. So I bought a Prophet and learned how to play the songs. Imagine buying a clavier and learning Mozart when he lived. Magic.
Thom Yorke gives us all a bit of his life force with every note. Humbling that such genius exists, but even more humbling it is given freely to us. His very essence is Art. His very existence is music.
The last remark really got to me. Obviously, the edit implies that it was supposed to, but it worked. He's grateful that he can still process the events of his life through creating things "because it means he's still alive". Earlier in the interview, he seems genuinely awed by the fact that his idiosyncratic take on his world is resonant to so many others. It's a struggle to be a creative person who can't help but process the world through making stuff, but to find it resonant to so few. I wonder whether artists of his ilk would ever find an audience today, when so much of the proliferative work is done by the artist.
I almost cried with this amazing interview. Zane Lowe was so excited and did an amazing interview. What I love about Thom Yorke is the fact that he ALWAYS makes me say "WOW"
Holy shit! One of the best interviews ever, sort of a meta-interview but incredibly insightful of both participants. I want to see more from this guy. And Thom Yorke.

Where normal interviews start with: How's the tour going? This one just starts with two kinds of sleep and the health benefits of napping and Siestas in Southern European countries. I love it.
Thom seems so much more comfortable with himself nowadays---and with others, lol. Very refreshing, casual interview.
Thom is looking really well in this interview.
He's in good shape for a man his age
I haven’t remembered my dream since I was a little, and it’s been bugging me so much. Well, I watched the anima short film on Netflix the other night, and then had my first dream in a long time... and thom Yorke was in it! It’s like he cast a spell on me. I can’t stop thinking about it.
This guy is magic.
Same for me! Super weird!
I had 3 beautiful Bowie dreams leading up to his death. The last one was on the Friday, two days before he died. I also told my better half that Bowie would die soon that day. Weirded me out for quite a while.
Very nice!
Thom has to be my favorite person in this world.
Hes a beautiful human being with even more beautiful music
I'll bet neither of you know the guy
Thom has to be my favorite cat in this world.
Bleating Goat
yup
Noel Gallagher, bitch
This makes me so happy to listen to Thom laugh...he seems to be in a good place these days! Back in the 90s his seeming endless misery had me worried we might have another Cobain on our hands. Thanks Thom, you'll never know how much you've meant to my life :)
I just gained a ton of respect for Thom Yorke while watching this. I'm amazed at how deep his musical genius goes...as well as his bandmates.
This is such a treat seeing him just talk. The supreme god of music
@d R He never discredited the other members. Just giving Thom Yorke his flowers, calm down.
He has matured ( very nicely. Go back and watch interviews from the OK Tour ) into what he is. A brilliant artist. Thank God we have him in the world.
This is thee greatest part of “age” -
when these phenomenal artists are finally comfortable in their own skin- beyond caring about judgement of anything else for that matter, and opening their heart to this wealth of wisdom...to share with all of their admirers.
Splendid interview.❤️
Thom was amazing and gracious with his going beyond, deep and personal, in his answering.
Thank you gentlemen.☺️✌️
His last reply is so full of emotions. I wasn't even in front of the screen but could feel it in his voice.
This man is real ❤️
Im so happy I live in a time where Thom Yorke makes music. He will never know the things he's done for people and the lives he has touched. Thank you Thom.
I'm watching this again.......for probably the 5th time.
And it just makes me wish Thom did more interviews. Seriously. He's SUCH a smart humble cool creative awesome human being. I just adore him to a ridiculous degree. This interview is perfect. I'd love to see more stuff like this....
This man sets an example for me to continue on with my life and go with the flow. Thank you Mr. Yorke.
Thom's lack of ego is a superpower.
Fuuuuuck! I remember seeing “Radiohead” at a free show in San Francisco in 1993! I put quotes around it, because for whatever reason (I’m guessing hangover, or jet lag, or both) the band never showed. It was just Thom all by himself with an acoustic guitar. Great set!
That must have been awesome
I think a bootleg exists of that! Is that where he sang Buckley's "Sing a Song For You"? That must have been amazing.
@@lauraforestdog1609 Probably. I really only heard the show the one time live in 1993.
This was a great interview....really enjoyed getting to hear Thom speak like this. Thanks for everything, Thom!
...but please Thom, never wear those trousers again.
Thom was like, "Yeah, I'll go with the leather pants today."
Exactly thought! Refreshingly our dreamer in this conversation.
What a great interview, err, I mean discussion. Just brilliant. The opportunity to speak with Thom in this relaxed laid back format. Once in a lifetime and we're all lucky to have a chance to listen in.
THANK YOU!!
Seeing Thom so friendly and relaxed, not trying to leave, not trying to avoid questions- is so cool!
Lovely to see Thom so open to talk these days. I want to start something creative for myself to understand the emotions Thom goes through with his work, must be a feeling like no other.
G Vulture go for it!
37 minutes of pure thom yorke? I love it
This interview is beautiful. Thank you guys. Thom is one so down to earth. One of the best albums this year. Close to schlagenheim.
He is a beautiful creature. I love Thom Yorke. So intelligent. So talented. So uniquely handsome.
"You know you are in trouble when people stopped listening to sad music." - 26:33
Sad songs are beautiful Steven Wilson made 3 gems for sure
oh my god thank you, i was looking for it
That ended on such a beautiful note. Wonderful interview. And all the talk about going through the Kid A/Amnesiac archives!!!! I really hope that they release something for the anniversary like they did with OKNOTOK.
hope you liked it
i like that they cut out the swearing except for the parts where they didnt
IkR
😂🍻

What a great comment

Underrated comment!!! 🤣
lmao , underrated comment
Amazing artist, so honest and humble, such a beautiful soul
i love it when they high five each other
dawn chorus really is something else
Sergej Lovrekovic Dawn Chorus made me cry today
This was a fantastic interview. I think I learned more about Thom both as an artist and as a person from watching this than I have from any other interview. And of all of the great information he shared here about his experiences creating and performing, what brought me the most joy was what he said at the very end about his happiness and gratitide for his life situation. I love it!
To see his genuine heartfelt gratitude at the end was so beautiful!
I like the fact that he started with I’m 50 now. Whoo hoo, here’s to being 50. Always making me feel better about myself. Thank god for Thom Yorke.
I seen Thom in 2020 in Edinburgh, and just WOW!!!! I CAN DIE HAPPY 😂❤
Thom, clearer and more focused than ever. Way to go, Thom. Keep up your health.
For someone who has also been bullied and suffered anxiety and panic, he is great inspiration. I find it comforting he is this relaxed now. Getting there.
Now I'm actually interested in reading "Why We Sleep" as well. Sounds fascinating.
It's a brilliant book. Quite scary also.
Yes! It's FABULOUS. So interesting, and the health implications of poor sleep are staggering. Do check out the author's podcast with Joe Rogan. Very entertaining.
@@cancerparty yeah was a brilliant podcast.
It's really a great book ♥

literally crying after that last part... protect thom at all costs
I love how surprised he was to hear the impact he has had on Zane. It's like he has no idea how important he is and how loved he is by so many.
He probably does realise but I imagine when you think about that it puts a lot of pressure on yourself
He's adorable. I'd listen to him for hours straight in pure joy
the last minute got in me tears. this man saved my life.
I’m 17 and he’s 55 but I think I’m gonna be in love with thom yorke forever
The care required to allow for a group of people to improvise freely, with self confidence as well as humility. The ongoing care, through the creation process, where we can still be our true selves, allow each other the be their true selves. And trusting that process. That’s the subtle, highly personal, professional space we all need. Yes, the collaboration, where you also feel that your vision is actually being realized... the subtlety. The subtlety. The feeling and production happening in concert.
Love this interview so deeply. So authentic.
I will never forget October 2000. Kid A dropped and changed things forever. Seen them live in a massive tent a few days later. What a time.
Same. I had followed them since Pablo, and OK was my first tour, but Kid A was like seeing them become more of themselves. I'll never forget getting that album and hearing it. Mind blown and music altered forever.
that's fcking awesome, you lucky bastards. I'll never forget my sister giving me tape with Kid A on it. I was 9.
you know your'e in trouble when people stop listening to sad music :)
Well said Arvin! This sounds crazy but I love sad songs, especially Thom's and Radiohead's. There's a connection that actually makes me feel better!

Ironic but true... life is realy complex.
I see almost all the stuff on the radio and TV as sad music/shows even though it is constructed to "feel good".
@@btmalo6817 here is a funny song: AJJ - Sad Songs (Intermission)
I never tire of this man's creativity and thoughts.
The guys a genius. Like being a contemporary to Mozart. I’ve travelled around to many of his shows but the pandemic stole the last two from me. So I bought a Prophet and learned how to play the songs. Imagine buying a clavier and learning Mozart when he lived. Magic.
I 100% agree. Why doesn't everyone on the planet know this fact?
I have narcolepsy and I'm autistic and I freaking love Thom Yorke's breakdown of REM, sleep, and naps. YES NAPS ARE THE BEST.
glad to hear that about naps.. am going to stop beating myself up about it
"IT'S LOU REED! IMAGINE WHAT YOU COULD ASK HIM??"
He respects the process and possibilities of an interview done well
Which one of your girlfriends cried the loudest when you beat the shit out of them? Love to ask him that!
Nick Moranis Does he beat women up?
Max Legate
...if Lou Reed was alive today, he'd no doubt be a very sick man!
thom understands lou was the master of rock n roll
Im not used to this many words coming from Thom in one sitting
I'm seeing Thom in Paris in a few days... Beyond excited!
same! im watching this interview and in my head it goes "am i really going to see him tomorrow"
You both are so lucky! Have funnnn
Jealous big time
Seeing him in Montreux, Switzerland the day after tomorrow!
You all are very lucky to have seen Thom/Radiohead. I live in Texas where I'm positive they hardly ever think of visiting.
I am with you Mr. Yorke. Love napping and I most always dream. It is essential. Glad you guys are doing well. Love Radiohead.
we all had an R.E.M period in the 90's ....i think
Lol
not me^^
Except me, I was born in 2005😂 big Radiohead fan, and REM
That's me in the corner
Yeah how funny REM gets in to the conversion from different dimension.
Holy shit! One of the best interviews ever, sort of a meta-interview but incredibly insightful of both participants. I want to see more from this guy. And Thom Yorke.
Totally. A very self aware interview. Making it less fake. Which is precisly how Thom wouldnt want it.
“Crumbs, bloody hell” love that very English response to being exalted.
Daily reminder that Thom Yorke is short for _Thomsicle New Yorkshire_
n00bie man I love this so much
hm, always thought it was Thomson Lord of Yorke
Thom Yorke is not his real name???
@@AndrewCraigPianoPlayer I asked the same question!?!

A very beautiful and inspiring interview from Thom. I truly enjoyed the album, *ANIMA* and all its meaning and beauty with its dreamy dystopian-esque sounds that are enlightening. “Dawn Chorus,” is absolutely beautiful and during times like these, we really need artist like Thom to awaken people. A very inspiring artist. Thank you our One Eye King. Thank you for the full interview XL recordings. 🙏🏻
I just watched ANIMA on Netflix.I needed to come here and thank Thom for The Dawn Chorus. It’s so beautiful.
I love this guy so much. One of a handful of incredibly intelligent musicians capturing the zeitgeist of the 90s and Oughts and more.
