The level crossing has been proposed to closed since 2015 and will soon be replaced with an underpass. There is typically misuse and trespassing incidents at this level crossing, on a frequent basis.

I grow up there and have jumped over the barrier 100s of times, worst one when you are half way over it and it start to lift!! so many people use to jump it, it was like the normal thing to do, now i am in my older years, i would just wait. this silly little video brought back so many memories, the noises of the trains and the barrier lifting and then the stampede

This is definitely a very unique level crossing with such old and run-down equipment! It does seem odd how the pedestrian light on the right is covered in mesh and barely visible at the best of times, with all four pointing at really funny angles - something that would not help the misuse that occurs here ever-so-frequently! Fantastic video here, even though I really can't say that this part of the UK is anything like the nicest place I've ever been, and it doesn't help my liking of the place seeing that awful tragedy all over the news that happened near here with the lorry 😕

I always find it so weird seeing people waiting when they can just use the overpass here.

Yeah, Poole crossing in Dorset and Lincoln crossing in Lincolnshire are also good examples. Footbridges to use but many people don't bother, and even jump the lights to not wait!

I live in Grays, but am closer to Chafford Hundred.
They say they are planning to remove the crossing and replace it with a underpass, but still waiting.....
People tend to misuse it to evade fares.

@@universaltrainsstudio8534 I keep checking to see if it has a specific closing date, but as it is pedestrian only and not on a public highway of any sort, it's hard to tell without having to actually go there and see for myself. I'd imagine it doesn't have too much longer if it is still there, but beware, the surrounding area of Grays is worse than Mitcham is!

Construction of the underpass is expected in summer 2021, so the crossing will probably be around all through next year also. The area isn't bad if you're just visiting the crossing. It's worth a visit.
