Wow, this is impressive! My sister needs one of these for her kids, so I know what I'll be building for next Christmas!
That’s pretty.
Liked your work a lot! Very useful video, too, - in terms of working with tools and understanding the process.
Just made a table that looks pretty much the same. Using a hand drill, minor saw and a hammer. :DHand sanded everything and used dowel joints. Came out pretty okay. The lower panel needs to be switched out because i didnt cut it perfectly but its no biggie! Thanks for the good video!
Coffee table looks and feels great... But so small thing needs some much effort to make.... Nice work.... 👍
I like the table. classic look. Have you tried tightbond dark hide glue when using walnut? It makes any squeeze-out a little less noticeable and helps hide any gaps
Amazing project
Well done, very good work, thank you for sharing
Heirloom furniture. Awesome build Brad!!
Thank you, Elizabeth!
There was a nice comedian narrating the whole video! :)
I Love it
Thanks for including all of the different processes from start to finish. I learned a lot from this video alone. I subscribed!
When accounting for wood movement shouldn't the fasteners be only at the end grain of the top??
Well I am about ready to tackle this project! All I need now is the 15 thousand dollars worth of tools you used in the video to make it!
wabash join a makers space!
This is a vid for people with loads of money, space and time.
I refuse!!
Gimme a chisel i'm doin' this the ole fashion way!
He doesnt even have the expensive stuff lol. Most of it is table top smaller versions
Don't forget about the $1500 in wood
That is a great coffee table. Beautiful walnut. Keep up the good work
My chin clamp is the most used clamp in my shop. 😂
Beautiful piece. God bless
My new method for making dowel holes with a hand drill, they don't have to be straight, in fact, they are better if they are not straight.
Drill the dowel hole with the drill slightly askew in any random direction you please. The only thing that matters is that the position at which the bit first enters the wood lines up with the hole on the other piece you are joining with the dowel. Now drill the other hole on the other piece using the same technique, check to make sure the point where the drill enters will make a hole thst lines up with the hole on the other piece you just drilled. DO NOT worry if your bit goes in straight or not. Even better if it is not perfect.
NOW the trick. You are not going to use wooden dowels. You are going to use thickened epoxy (Fiberglass Coatings Tm. sells an awesome product called super bond, it goes on like peanut butter and dries like a hockey puck), but you can use whatever thickened epoxy you have available. Fill both holes all the way up with epoxy and make sure you leave enough excess that when you press the two pieces together, the epoxy from one hole comes into complete contact with the epoxy from the other hole. Clamp and dry. You have now made your own epoxy dowel thst will be 100 times stronger than wood, probably a slight exaggeration, and the fact that your holes aren't angled exactly the same creates a crooked dowel that will be impossible to pull the pi3ces apart without actually ripping the wood apart. The crooked dowel has locked the two pieces together, giving you added strength and security, even though absolutely straight epoxy dowels would still be stronger than wood.
This is quick, easy, and a neat trick to have in a lot of different applications.
Let me know what you think.
Sounds to be something worth giving a try thanks
Is this your own workshop or do you have all of this in your house? Because I aspire to have my own workshop inspired by your channel but I live in the city so I gotta buy some land outside of the city first. Also, do you have merchandise? When I do start workshopping I want people to know where my inspirations come from.
This is in a 31x19 garage. It's a good space. You can check out some merch at fixthisbuildthat.com/product-category/merchandise/ 👍
So beautiful! I love your vids. Wish they were an hour each!
Any thoughts on using Rubio vs odies oil?
Haven't tried Odies. But Rubio is awesome
7:29 Michael Rosen moment
I am a old carpenter does eny one use joints eny more hand full of hand tool I find it sad that need costly machine to make simply small project
Ray Morrison you don’t have to do any of this with expensive machines. You can do everything he does by hand. But it will take longer and possibly be less accurate (depending on your skill level)
Nothing wrong with using machines to make joints - and a good woodworker can get the same result using 3 or 4 different tools/techniques.
Lol, handmade is even crap nowadays. I detest all these gimmick joinery machines.
Ray Morrison - I'm with you...no machines in my shop...a collection of hand tools and classical music make all my furniture and other projects!
Bryan H - Less accurate my butt...I can get to one thousandth accuracy with my hand plane...the best those machines will do is around one 32nd...shack
to each their own
Exellent visual presentation, but way too much tools for the average dyi er
That's really nice, I want to see you clean up that rough timber with a swiss army knife next time though Macgyver. ;)
How much did that wood cost? It looks expensive.
Probably about $200 in lumber if you bought it from retail. I got mine off Craigslist for $60 or $80 for that whole stack 😃
I wish I also had someone else paying for the tools
Me too, I earn these through hard work
Height of this coffee table?
the table looks fantasic bro. When you say "epic long build" , how long is that? I am always surprised how long a project like this can take so I am just curious how long it took you so I know if I am in good company or not. I find it frustrating sometimes. You?
This one probably took me 4 days of work with filming. So probably 30 to 40 hours.
Great project brother. I love the buicketed mouthed method. Worked great
You can get easy to follow plans for this build (with easier joinery if you want it) here:

Fix This Build That, it's so amazing. I interest your tools, complete to do anything. I know their price are expensive, but worth it 😁👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😔
Can you please help me because I can’t see to get and kept my table legs square. Get you make a video on legs and tables not square and make them square. Y’all are great wood workers but I’m a beginner and would love to figure out why
Beautiful work, and walnut is one of my favorite woods for furniture. Only a small detail, I would not leave the corners so sharp on a thing that stands close to the height of the knee... but hey... you are the pro ^_^ 14:22
Not certain about the points made but ,if anyone else wants to learn about how to start a woodworking business try Bablim Woodwork Cash Booster ( search on google ) ? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my neighbor got great results with it.
I cannot follow the plan because I don’t have drum sander.
9:20 Nope, not way too much glue. :-)
That's not what I was thinking when I applied the finish and saw that little glue spot I missed during sanding 😂😂
Macgyver = Greatest show of all time. (The old version)
I didn't even realize there was a new one until yesterday!
Fix This Build That it’s really good. Definitely check it out. I really like it.
I have question about wood movement. The lower shelf is constrained across its width by the legs. As the width changes with changing humidity, will this constraint cause problems?
“Until next time, get out there, buy $10k worth of shop tools, rig up dust collection, spend a day building jigs, and.....build something awesome.”
Kidding aside, well done. Beautiful table.
are you sayin $10K is a lot of money?
Yes
That little sound byte of Marc's "Bubinga!" had me laughing. Nice video, too. Well shot, thorough detail, to the point.
I saw this video and I actually made the same kind of coffee table but with different wood and different measurements. Worked out great though! I was 13 when I made it now I’m 14! It was a long build especially since we used mortise and tenon joints for the pieces of wood under the table tops and we had to cut and chisel them with a router and some of chisels. Basically we didn’t exactly have the tools for the job but it still came out great!
Nothing DIY about this, more like industrial machine work shop.
Jimmy Crackerlacking I agree. +Fix This Build That I love the clean video. However, I think it would be awesome to see videos on stripped down DIY carpentry. What about showing people how to build the same project using a job site table saw. Let’s be honest, it’s far more realistic for the majority of DIYers. I know for a fact that my job site table saw will cut joinery quality cuts. Not trying to be mean, or critical. But, people come to these videos to learn how to DIY a project, and leave thinking that they need a shop to build these things.
@TechStack Reviews dont worry love I am out there making plenty of stuff with three hand tools.
@@fractalofgod6324 Three hand tools?! LUXURY! I use a rock I find on the ground. That's real woodworking, non of this over the top fancy three hand tools nonsense.
How to build a coffee table from rough wood...
Step 1, Buy $10,000 worth of tools
LOL exactly...
We no longer woodwork, we simply feed wood to table saws then play with large lego
Yeah... woodworking involves tools. Tools cost money.
That $10,000 worth of tools can make you $100,000 worth of furniture. Or you can stop whining and go buy something from Ikea.
@@bryanh6856 Oh i make furniture, i just don't do it for a living, i am a software developer.
As a hobby i woodwork with hand tools, i do not have 10k worth of tools, i have a few hand tools.
Spending 10k on tools for something which is not my day job is kind of stupid, especially if i am not returning this investment.
I did however sold some furniture i made by hand, and i covered my tool cost long ago.
As for making 100k worth of furniture, i am not sure where you are from, but it can make you that much furniture, the issue would be selling that much furniture and competing with the cost of the likes of Ikea etc
To do that you would need to work with cheap materials, mostly MDF and cover things up with veneer,
and sorry, for me this is not feeling like woodworking anymore, you think you need to consider the grain structure when you hack into MDF?
just legos and glue... i don't like it
@@bryanh6856 hey Bryan you're right. Woodworking involves tools. Not necessarily these tools though. Funnily enough I don't think woodworkers were using this tool set 100 years ago and I don't think your average DIY woodworker can afford this today. Glad you can though. Good for you, buddy!
LOL🤣
MacGyver is cool, but MacGruber is the best. Nice coffee table! Its extra walnutty!
Probably needs more epoxy though, right? 😜
Fix This Build That epoxy is ALWAYS the answer! Seriously though, lots of great tips and funny moments in this one.
You could say it's a nutty build
Sweet video! Too bad I only have maybe 2 of those hand tools haha
Great sense of humor ! Looked like a fun build. Thanks for sharing !!!!
Beautiful table!👏 Love me some walnut!👍
Many compliments because it is very nice !!
Which wood essence did you use?
I almost forgot, but you are up till now the only one who made this very important remark: checking that everything is square! You wouldn't believe how may projects go pear shaped, almost litterary because people forget to check the corners, if they're really square!
how do like the track saw from kreg and how accurate do you find its cuts
Love the table, love the video, Far to nice for dowels, mortise and tenon just my opinion take with a grain of salt now i will shut up and subscribe.
First having all these tools and then cool part how to use them to make this master peace ✌🏼.. love your work and videos..
7:40 "jowel joinery" huh? 🤣 great build. Looks awesome
jowel joinery, it really sticks in your craw
"Hey I'm Bob and I like to make stuff"
Oh wrong channel
😂 😂 Not enough electronics here
*TopFineWoodworking. Com* , is a very comprehensive woodworking book! It breaks every little thing down, utilizing words, drawings, real pictures, and different diagrams. It`s unbelievably informative and helps me feel like I could help my sibling while we make our furniture together.?
Oh the nostalgia... subscribed for MacGyveritude. MacGyverism. MacGyverification? You know what I mean... will do same for impro-vise-ation.
Parvez Aslam good thanks so much love u 🇵🇰 very good thanks thanks for the birthday 🎂 parvez Aslam good thanks thanks 🤔 thanks 🤔 thanks
Awesome video brad! Nicely done!
thanks, dude!
I did a lot of checking and concluded that even high quality woodworking tools in the US are REALLY, REALLY, REALLY CHEAP. I mean, what you have to pay for one, we have to pay it three times as much + taxes!! Here in South America owning these tools is achievable, but that does is a lot of work to get. ALSO, what you get paid by an hour is what we get paid by a full day! Come on!
I find it very curious to read comments from people complaining about not having some of those tools. Are they that cheap or what? Wth. 😯
Hey! You're really fun! Haha Nice table, though next time you may not want to mess with dowels and keep it more simple by using pocket holes!
Heres a question.... any specific reason why you doweled the lower stretchers but pocket holed the uppers??
Beautiful table, though. Love your videos!
thanks!
Has numerous details in this woodwork book *TopFineWoodworking. Com* . The book also displays several designs and descriptions on the materials used for various woodworking processes and also the guidelines on completing various procedures appropriately. In other words, I`m happy using this book, especially in the process of learning about wood working.?
How dare you try to expand your shop/channel! I want this built with a hand saw, flat blade screwdriver, and a glue stick because that's all I have lol.
Where did you get the trigger start torch you used at 6:03? I've been looking for something like the one you used.
Very nice build...always love the walnut!!
At 11:15 it appears one of the rails didn't come completely together with the adjoining leg. Was this because the dowel hole wasn't quite long enough or you just missed tightening the clamp to pull these pats together? Either way, I still thoroughly enjoy your videos (and humor).
i noticed you said 1x4 and 2x2, but you milled your own lumber... so did you mill them to a true 1x4 and 2x2 or are they 3/4 x 3-1/2 and 1-1/2 x 1-1/2?
Hey dude, cudos! Neat job. And... good comments about the how and why. And good useful tips! This is moderately difficult for beginners but the way you presented it makes that is in reach for anybody ho has just an incling of what he or she is doing. Good job!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Looks great! Cant believe after all the dowels you dropped in some pocket holes 🤪 you sinner!
Would have needed 3 chin clamps to do the lower and top dowels plus shelf at same time
Great build. Love the witty comments along the build!
Gotta add a little levity to life
How is Jet get a 2HP motor in such a small package? My 2HP motor is large and weighs about 50lbs.
Do you have a video on your mobile miter saw station? That thing looks awesome!
Brad, thanks for the videos! New woodworker here and I appreciate you showing some of your mistakes. I am reminded that even the pros do it once in a while. After all, "the mark of a craftsman is not how few mistakes he makes, but how well he covers them up." Bought and completed a lot of your shop plans. Thanks!
Glad you're enjoying the mistakes...hope you don't make the same ones 😃
Very nice project. The transformation from the rough lumber is amazing.
4:45 like when the kid in "The 6th sense" is in bed and whispers to Bruce Willis: "I'm not from Ikea"
Well done !!!
I am glad You also point to the mistakes and how to solve!
Always want to help y'all avoid them!
Quick question: what is that Rigid device you used to help support the wood w/ your bandsaw?
Awesome build! Thanks for the video.
DIY in America... To start let's use 5 super expensive tools to flaten boards...
If your house is like mine a flat surface catches clutter. I told the wife I'm going to make some round tables.
Wow, you have some negative people watching your channel, so what if you have lots of expensive tools, wonder how they built furniture back in the day without it, adapt and overcome I guess, ps great video and fun to watch.
I don't know about negative but this is way beyond DIY, this is a fullblown commercial level woodshop.
13:54 Yes, "bisketing" is a word. You were verbing. Turning a noun into a verb. LOL!
How to build a coffee table
Step 1: Blow a bag on industrial grade equipment
I earned the fancy double chin strap by visiting various hamburger joints and donut shops. I don’t recall actually getting a package and I don’t know exactly who gifted it to me. It seems I just woke up with it one day. Ah, what a life!
😂😂😂
it is really hard job rely the expensive tools
Ah yes, the DIY video anybody with enough shop machines to buy an entire house with can do
What a waste of time. He doesn't really show how to do the project. Won't bother with any more of his vids.
This is my Favorite Channel
Thanks for keeping the DIYer in mind.
great looking table! you had me cracking a few times in this one. nice work and thanks for the inspiration.
glad you enjoyed it!
I was hoping to see the fence in your accessories list but didn't. Where'd you get it?
The lower dowels, could you have put a miter on both so they each get equal insertion?
Nice build! I saw that you used Rubio Monocoat (at least that’s what it Looked like). Would you recommend that for surfaces that get more abuse ie a kitchen table?
Yes, it's a great tale top finish 👍
Gorgeous table! That wood's beautiful, and the design is simple yet elegant. Well done!
One tip I once saw for notching out a shelf to a rounded leg, was to use the drill press and a drill bit size equal to the leg's round-over radius in the corner of the notch, then band-saw up to this hole, leaving a rounded notch that perfectly matches the leg. But that's more for larger round-overs. Here the difference is so small, it's unnoticeable.
Walnut is my favorite wood! Beautiful work! By the way, nice shop!
Eres el mejor. Me gusta todos tu prolle tos
This video helped me realize there is no way I can build my own coffee table.
You just convince me to spent 200grand in tools to make a 1000$ table. Woking on it right now... 🤔 The thought I mean
You're off by a magnitude of 10x on tools (at least) , and if you made 100 tables at $1,000 with $20K in tools....sounds like a great business plan 😀
Love your videos. Btw 7:42 “jail joinery” 😂😂🤔 sorry
Bisketeded sounds good to me Awesome build and very attention grabbing love all your videos
Nice table - a little disheartening to see it take $20k worth of tools to make it though : )
Ha ha ha, “ knots, crazy grain and....other character”, well said Brad😄👍🏻👍🏻
Walnut is so beautiful and great to work with. I scored some great boards for free off of Craigslist. The guy was moving and they were leftovers from a home renovation.
Wow, that's a killer find!
Beautifully simple. Great looking build.
Biscuit is a noun. You made it into a verb. Since English is an adaptable language. Congrats you just added to our dictionaries a new word.
Random English fact from a word nerd: a noun that you turn into a verb by adding -ing is a gerund.
I spend so much time coveting the Festool Domino that I forget how good a dowel jig can be! Go the dowel jig I say!
cool built, very classic design.
Great project. Downloaded the plans and will be building it for my son. Question for you - did you only use Modified Oil Finish as in the link as it only shows 1 product, but your video shows 2 products being used. Thanks for the clarification!
Yep, it's just one finish but you can add an accelerator to it (the clear part) that makes it cure faster
@@Fixthisbuildthat Thank you sir! I ordered the Walnut yesterday! Onto the build! Love your work and your plans are very detailed and easy to follow!
