    Dope video but we can’t just gloss over the fact that he was betrayed by ppl he literally saved on more than one occasion. It wasn’t just the money that turned him. Teddy, Leon, Louis, his mom all completely turned on him after he sacrificed nearly everything for each of them at some point throughout the series. Tbh, that’s more fucked up than his revenge tour

      I don’t think Cissy really betrayed him like the others. She knew Teddy wouldn’t just turn over the money without retaliation just like he didn’t let Alton live as he promised. In her eyes it was Saint losing the money or being hunted and killed by the CIA

      I love that the show made Franklin and Teddy very parallel characters. Franklin started season 1 making speeches about beating the system. Teddy stuck to his tried and true motive of “protecting America’s interests and fighting communism”. Both characters use their respective “motives” to rationalize all that they would do as the show progressed.
      But in the end, they were both selfish, insecure men with something to prove that used their talents and charisma to go on power trips at the expense of literally everyone else. Teddy’s “protecting America” brought a drug epidemic like no other into America’s streets. Franklin, for all his speeches, never hurt the system or (almost) anyone that was a part of it, all he did was devastate his own community.
      By the end, even as they turn on each other, both of their perceptions of having the moral high ground after literally murdering each other’s fathers, would be almost laughable if the consequences on the people around them hadn’t been so tragic. Look no further than the “Strange Fruit” scene to see the only lasting legacy that either man left behind.

      Theme of this show was ambition. From Franklin's success he created ambition for all of the other people that were involved in his life. Funny thing is we overlook the amount of times Franklin trodd on toes and hurt those around him to ascend but when it happened to him, we are quick to point out how badly he was done. Sissy got revenge on the man who took away her husband and who (seemingly) took her son away from her. Louie was probably the worst example of a user and abuser but to her she clearly saw it as just "business" in the same way Frank was acting towards his friends.

He could have easily killed Alton or his moms but he always consulted Franklin about what was going on and what needed to be done and worked with him. Their beef could have easily been resolved but that message put Teddy in a position of is he telling the truth or not knowing Franklin had become a cold killer himself. He should have took the Leon route, listened to Veronique and walked away with $70 million never to be heard from again. Louie was just doing too much. Jerome wanted to leave but she got on a power trip as well which got him killed. You could see it in his eyes he wasn’t about that life anymore and hated he became a killer.

  • @docvader82
    @docvader82 6 месяцев назад +64

    He definitely changed into a cold, heartless person.
    But the description of him stealing from Louie felt wrong to me. What she did took away 90% of his business. He WAS the reason they graduated from selling a little weed to being a powerhouse.
    If she wanted to break out on her own, fine. But she essentially stole his business out from under him. Him taking back 3 million is relative peanuts by comparison.
    Then his wife... she had to take ALL the 800k? No. She proved herself to be the same shitbag she accused her mother of being. She wasn't innocently blindsided by Franklin. She stayed until cissy killed teddy.
    None of this is defending Franklin. I'm just saying, some of his worsening traits got worsened even more by shit people did to him.
    If Teddy left him with 10-25 million, he may have been convinced to be happy with that. Then maybe the birth of his child brings back some of his better characteristics.
    I know, wishful thinking.

    You left out a key part when it comes to Veronique. Franklin choked her! While pregnant with HIS baby! You think his touch will ever be same to her?
    You’re making it seem as if she just simply left him because of, as you keep saying, ‘his obsession with money.’ No that wasn’t it. She left him because he put his hands on her and was willing to just sink them into a hole. He was pissed when she inquired about the properties and banks saying that everything was his and therefore his to destroy if he wants. In her eyes, this situation was no longer safe (physically or financially). So yeah, she took her small portion from the real estate business and ran (800,000 vs 73 mil- a drop in the bucket). She was down for him until that moment, so Franklin actually betrayed her. Hell, she was one who suggested burning him with oil 🤷🏽‍♀️

    • @usetobekenn
      @usetobekenn 7 месяцев назад +34

      Right. There was a moment earlier in the season where she chose Franklin over her mom. She then lists the reasons as to why, which was amaaaaazing foreshadowing. She said as long as those reasons stayed intact, she would always choose his side. You can see the buildup to each reason being broken, and the cherry on top was when he put his hands on her.

This show really was the perfect character arc he went from someone you loved to slowly the biggest villain on the show. Even in the last season sure was I invested in him getting the money back but we all knew he wasn’t and that’s were the amazing ending comes into play. Nothing but turning into a street bum was gonna do him justice. Going to jail would have been to easy. Killing him would have been to easy as well. Truly loved the ending.

    Franklin’s greed pushed everyone beyond their morals and breaking point. If you look at the ambitions of Jerome, Louie, Leon and Cissy they were all modest. Only Franklin wanted the world. His greed left them no choice but to eventually jump ship before he took them all down with him chasing $ and power.

    • @kaysuki7223
      @kaysuki7223 6 месяцев назад +7

      Louie never had modest ambitions. I'd go as far to say as she was equally as ambitious as Franklin. Obviously, she wasn't anywhere nearly as ruthless as Franklin, but her ambition was equal to his. She always wanted more. She was the one who introduced Franklin to Claudia. She wanted to be equal to the men in the business, not just a cooker. She wanted the club from Claudia. She wanted to sell on her own. She went behind Franklin's back with Teddy. She stole his idea for expansion. I will admit that Franklin later became harder to sympathize with, not just for the audience, but for the family too, but she always lacked the loyalty that even Franklin showed. He at least defended Leon when things got difficult and went back for Louie when Kane had her. I'll agree with the others, except for Leon towards the end, but Louie was always just as ambitious.
